A couple things that you know kind of annoy WWE somewhat: the fact that Punk put a trademark on his name and they let him use the name when he signed there originally, and the fact that they let him use Cult of Personality. AEW straight up benefiting from his WWE time so directly is exactly the type of thing they try to prevent.

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
To me, sports entertainment consists of pro wrestling.
Pro wrestling doesn't have to be sports entertainment though.
My definition/interpretation of sports entertainment is pro wrestling mixed in with characters, promos, storylines and all that, whereas pro wrestling is simply just the action we see during matches.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
It just gets kind of old, especially when there is no creativity or nuance to the shots being taken.
As much as I've grown to dislike the Young Bucks (mostly cause of their in-ring style) at least they're a bit more clever. Then again, they never worked there so it comes off as sophomoric too.
Anyway, it's great to see Punk back in a wrestling ring where he belongs.

Great to see a guy like Tony Khan give WWE something to worry about not his fault WWE burns so many bridges.

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Seeing CM Punk return to wrestling and specifically AEW was freaking awesome!!! And he's wrestling Darby Allin in two weeks which should be a good match.
Loved that AEW actually gave every fan a free ice cream bar. That's just freaking hilarious!!Comment

You even have Serena Deeb and Luke Gallows running around those parts too. [emoji38]
Anyway, that gimmick was gold and no one (including and in particular Seth Rollins) has done it better since.

I've still have my doubts about Khan as a booker and show runner, but his hard-core fans enjoy what he is providing. It'll be interesting to see how the company further shifts if they reach the bigger mainstream audience.
And will there be a (no pun intended) backlash if they cut a lot of the schlocky, indy deathmatch and high spots in every (Young Bucks) match out?
Again, I understand why Punk is still upset. It's just that harboring those negative emotions is unhealthy in a sport that is already physically demanding. And letting them linger (like it seemed like Macho Man did) forever only let's the other person win.
Man, the whole "sports entertainment"/pro wrestling argument is so annoying and stupid.
They are literally the same thing, but people (*cough*Jim Cornette*cough*) want to pretend that one is bad/objectionable (sports entrainment) and the other is pure.
If we wanted purity then we'd all be watching MMA or amateur wrestling instead we need more involving stories, character work, etc. to truly engage us.

I won't disagree with that. [emoji38]

Punk isn’t “another ex-WWE employee taking cheap shots” for cheap pops. It’s his whole underdog, rebel, voice of the voiceless character. And it’s likely not going to stop.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Negative emotions? You realize the whole CM Punk character was built on holding grudges, taking shots, and generally being a disgruntled employee. This is quite on-brand for Punk. Hell, he was taking shots at WWE while working for them and it’s what got him over. If you think it’s going to end anytime soon, I have bad news for you. Punk not whining would be like the Rock not saying “FINALLY…”. You call it lazy or unhealthy or whatever, but it’s very smart for Punk to get both himself and his company over. Phil may very well be over what happened in WWE. He seemed to be very happy in fact. But that doesn’t mean the Punk character won’t use those experiences to get himself and his company over. A lot of AEW fans (like myself) are ex-wwe people who were tired of a stale, micromanaged product. So the “shots” speak right to the hearts of those fans.

I didn't make that connection between his character work and still being disgruntled, so thanks for that, but I'm still over the constant crying about how WWE (the biggest platform in their industry) mistreated them.
And I understand the misgivings of a Punk or Moxley (who both had serious Staph infections while with WWE), so they at least have more legitimate gripes beyond booking and character decisions (though those are chief complaints too).
As to everything else you stated, that is cool and we can appreciate either or neither company if we choose to.
I'd go further but there is really no point and this thread isn't the place for that discussion.

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
A sizable chunk of their fanbase are people who are looking for an alternative to what they see as a bad WWE product, and most of the rest of the audience are people who love wrestling and wrestlers and I doubt care one way or the other about rooting for or against a promotion. Either way there's not much of a downside to let these guys go after WWE in promos, especially since the idea of promos in AEW is to be a legit style and not scripted.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Hopefully it does, but we've got plenty of time to see where it goes. That would be a dumb gimmick for him to be doing in AEW in 2021 since there's nothing there for him to rebel against. It's a clean slate with fresh matchups for him.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Man that was a thunderous reaction from the crowd for CM Punk. You dont even hear that kind of reaction in the WWE that much anymore. I was amazed. So happy to see CM Punk back in a wrestling ring. Hearing him come out to Cult of Personality brought back me joys of seeing him during his final years in the WWE. Everything he did, he had my attention. Now, I am going to pay attention to what he does in AEW. Excited to see what he is going to bring to the company. If I'm Vince and Bruce Pritchard right now, I should be worried that the tides can possibly turn in the future.Comment
