    8/31/14

It's the end of August and the D-Backs are in town. I got belted around for the second straight game as I allow 11 hits and left in the top of the 7th with 2 out and Arizona in front 4-2. The bullpen allowed a solo run in the 8th and we lose, 5-2, to fall 9 games behind the D-Backs in the NLW.

        9/5/14

We have reached the home stretch of the season and we still have a shot at the wild card playoff spot.

I was in a hard fought pitcher's duel tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. I allowed a single run in the 4th and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th with the Brew Crew still ahead, 1-0. The Brewers added another run in the bottom of the 7th but they didn't need it as their starter was phenominal, throwing a 2-hit shutout as we lost, 2-0.

We are back home in Dodger Stadium as the thorn-in-my-side, the Colorado Rockies, come to LA. I allow 2 runs in the 4th and a solo run in the 5th before being lifted with one out and one on in the top of the 7th inning with the Dodgers trailing, 3-1. I went 0-1 with a sacrifice at the plate and only struck out 2 in my 6 1/3 innings of work. The dang blasted Rockies won the game, 3-1, as we start to fade out of the playoff picture.

We are on the road and facing the NLW leading Arizona Diamondbacks in a must win series if we are going to escape being eliminated.

The offense finally woke up and gave me a 4-run cushion after the first three innings as we led, 4-0. I worked deep into the game and was pulled in the bottom of the 9th with one out after I allowed a 2-run homer to ruin my shutout bid. At the plate, I went 0-1 with 2 sacrifice bunts and a bases loaded HBP to drive in a run. The Dodgers ended up staving off elimination as we held on to win the game, 4-2, for my 13th win of the year.

My goal period ended and I got a pat on the back from the manager as I reached 4 out of the 6 goals. The Dodgers are very pleased with my progress and my numbers for the year. He also gave me my final list of goals for the rest of the season now that we have been eliminated from the playoff race.

              In the next 3 series:

              1. increase durability
              2. increase pitching clutch
              3. have a WHIP lower than 1.000
              4. have at least 9.2 innings pitched
              5. allow 8 hits or less (fat chance!)

We are in sunny Florida taking on the Marlins as we head into the final week of the season. If there was a day when nothing goes right, this was it. I gave up a bunch of hits in the first inning and allowed 3 runs. I allowed another run in the 2nd and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the 6th with us down, 4-1. We ended up scoring twice in the 6th and one in the 7th but the Marlins held on to win, 5-4. I also uncorked only my 2nd wild pitch of the year.

It's the final weekend of the season and we are home to host the Pittsburgh Pirates. I gave up a solo homer to Xavier Nady in the 4th inning to tie the game and left with 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 7th inning with us in front, 4-2. I was somehow able to escape disaster most of the game as I allowed 10 hits in my 6.2 innings. The Dodgers ended up posting 2 more runs in the bottom of the 7th and we win, 6-2.

A discount because they gave me a chance after being out of baseball for a couple of years.

I also can't stand Boras (should be spelt Bore-a$$).
