Back at Dodger Stadium again as the Atlanta Braves come to town.

I allow a run in the top of the 2nd inning but we tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the 3rd, the offense tacks on a pair of runs and that's all I need as I coast through 8 innings before leaving with 1 out in the top of the 9th. We go on to win the game, 3-1. The only blemish, besides the run, was the wild pitch that I uncorked, my third of the season.

      7/13/13

This is the final day before the all-star break as we finish the homestand hosting the Florida Marlins. I give up a run in each of the 1st and 3rd innings but that is it as I shut them down the rest of my time. I strike out a season high 9 batters in my 8 innings of work as we win the game, 6-2 and head to the all-star break. I am not selected to be on the All-Star team so I'm heading back to the ranch in Texas to help out my parents.

The manager called me into the office today as my latest goal period ends. He tells me that it was a good effort as I achieve 4 of the 6 goals. He also told me that I was being moved to the #5 SP role but still will be #4 in the rotation.

During the break I also decided to add another pitch, a 2-seam fastball, to go along with the others. I am going to make it a top priority to bring the pitch under control, but it will be after I take care of the first 3 goals on my new list.

        1. Increase 2-seam fastball control over next 5 series
        2. Increase bb/9 attribute over next 5 series
        3. Increase splitter control over next 5 series
        4. Over next 5 series, allow 7 or less earned runs
        5. Over next 5 series, have an OPP batting AVG lower than .290
        6. Over next 5 series, allow 15 hits or less

We are on the road facing the Colorado Rockies as my next turn comes around. I don't know what it is about this place. Maybe it's just me. After a few quality starts in a row, I start to get battered around by the Rockies. I allow 2 runs in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd and Colorado jumps out to a 3-1 lead. The manager comes to get me with two outs in the bottom of the 7th as two more runs come across for the Rockies and I leave with the Dodgers trailing, 5-2. That ends up being the final score as both teams go down quietly. As for me, I spread out 10 hits in my 6 2/3 innings and also uncorked another wild pitch, my 5th of the season.

          Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

We are back at Dodger Stadium and the rivals, the San Francisco Giants, are in town when my turn comes around.

After the "blip" at Coors Field, I totally shut down the Giants, allowing 1 run on 8 hits, through the first 8 innings. In the top of the 9th, I give up a leadoff homer and my night is over as I leave with a 6-2 lead. San Francisco puts another run on the board in the 9th but it's not enough as the Dodgers win, 6-2, and I get my 10th win of the season.

I am going to have to bear down now because I already know that I won't obtain two of the goals.

            Code:

                  8/2/13

Today is game two of our series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Dodger Stadium. I breeze through the first four innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run, and then I felt a little pain in my shoulder as I started pitching to the leadoff hitter in the top of the 5th. Fearing the worst I summoned the manager and trainer from the dugout.

I was replaced and then went to the trainer's office. We were in front 2-1 and eventually won the game, 3-2.

After nearly a month on the disabled list, I have been cleared by the doctors and activated.

The Dodgers are currently on the road as my turn comes around. We are facing the D-Backs, the same opponents as my last game. I take a perfect game into the bottom of the third before giving up a single with one out. I continued to shut down Arizona, whiffing the side in the 5th, and ended up being lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the 8th. I allowed 3 runs, 1 in the 4th and 2 in the 7th, and spread out 6 hits. Unfortunately, the opposing starter shut us out and only allowed 4 hits and we lost the game, 3-0.

I was called into the manager's office today and was told that I had failed during my goal period, which ended yesterday. I only reached 3 of the 6 goals but the manager said that it was probably just an aberation and not the norm with me.

                          My new goals
                          1. increase bb/9 attribute over next 8 series
                          2. increase 2-seam fastball control over next 8 series
                          3. increase slider control over next 8 series
                          4. over the next 8 series, have an OPP batting AVG lower than .290
                          5. over the next 8 series, allow 11 or less earned runs
                          6. over the next 8 series, allow 23 hits or less

After being notified that I was being placed in the #3 spot of the rotation, I am back on the hill after only two days rest to start against the Padres here in Chavez Revine. On the very first pitch of the game, the leadoff hitter crushes the ball for a game-opening homer. I ended up scattering 5 more hits and allowed single runs in the 3rd and 7th innings before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th. I left with the game tied, 3-3, and it stayed that way until the 18th inning as San Diego was able to push across a run and they won, 4-3.

We are at Petco Park in San Diego to face the Padres as we begin our latest road trip that will take us to San Diego and St.Louis. The Dodgers are in the midst of a race for the NLW as well as the wild card playoff spot so every game is critical. I am at my dominating best as I throw probably my best start of the season. I completely shut down and out the Padres on 5 hits through 8 innings, striking out 9, then was pulled for our closer. We went on to win the game, 3-0, to stay within 2 1/2 games of the NLW leading D-Backs.

Just when I thought I had all the answers, out came another question. We are in St.Louis and I give up a 2-run bomb to Juan Encarnacion to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead and I am pulled for a pinch hitter in the top of the 6th. The Redbirds rolled over our bullpen for 7 runs in the 8th to put the game out of reach and we scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th and lost the game, 10-4.
