Back on the mound against the Astros as I am summoned out of the pen in the bottom of the 3rd inning with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs and 2 runs already in. Houston is leading 7-0 and after getting out of the jam without allowing a hit or a run, I throw a 1-2-3 4th inning before leaving for a pinch hitter. Houston went on to add another run in the 8th as they won the game, 8-1.

We are back home in Chavez Ravine and hosting the Diamondbacks as get the call for the third straight day. I come in to start the 8th inning and it was a disaster. I allow two runs in the inning and another one in the top of the 9th as Arizona pulled away and won the game, 5-0.

Another day, another appearance as I am called upon with 2 outs and no one on in the top of the 16th inning with the score tied, Arizona 1, Los Angeles 1. I get the first batter out and then continue to no-hit the Diamondbacks until 1 out in the top of the 19th inning as I give up 3 hits and a run as I take the loss in a 2-1 Arizona victory.

At the plate, I struck out in my first at bat and then flew out to end the game in the bottom of the 19th with the tying run on base.

Today is the start of the home series against the Colorado Rockies. I am called in for the fourth straight day, and 5 out of 6, to start the top of the 9th in a game that we are losing 3-1. I end up giving up a run on two hits then we score two runs in the bottom half of the 9th as the Dodgers drop another game, 4-3.

During the game, Scott Proctor was rushed from the game after fracturing his head. He's going to be placed on the 60-day DL and probably is done for the season since they expect him to be out for over six months.

I was called into the manager's office and he told me that Brad Penny, who is off to an awful start, is being sent to the bullpen and that I was going to take his spot in the rotation for now. I was also told that I would be starting the last game of the series against the Rockies, which is tomorrow.

My goals were slightly adjusted since my role is now #5sp. Instead of allowing 3 or less earned runs, the number of earned runs is now 9. Instead of having to record 1 or more holds, I am now to record 1 or more quality starts.

I get to make my first start of the 2013 season today and it's not a good one. I give up a 2-run homer to Ballard in the 4th and a solo shot by Gallardo in the 5th among the 8 hits in five innings. I leave with the score 6-2 Colorado and we lose another game, 6-3. I struck out twice in the game so it was a miserable game and one to forget.

It's the end of the opening month and the end of my latest goal period. I only make 2 out of the 5 goals but the manager said that it is probably an aberation since I have been pretty good in the past with reaching the goals.

                My new goals:

                1. Increase stamina over the next 6 series
                2. Increase H/9 attribute over the next 6 series
                3. Increase durability over the next 6 series
                4. Over the next 6 series, have a whip lower than 1.000
                5. Over the next 6 series, have at least 19.2 innings pitched
                6. Over the next 6 series, allow 17 hits or less

Man, they sure don't like to give you rest. Hey, this guys has pitched 6 times in 7 days, lets start him tommorow! Well, at least you're getting a shot at the rotation, but haven't been that good. Good luck.

Thanks guys for reading and checking in.

It was only my first start plus I was probably a little worn out by the number of appearances right before the start. Once he gets settled, Nolan should be fine.

Yeah, I wonder if they have ever heard about overusing a pitcher. Well, of course not since it's a game, but good luck with your next start.

We are on the road and in Colorado to take on the Rockies. How can anybody pitch here?

I didn't do too badly today in my second start of the season as I face the Rockies for the second time in straight starts. Ten hits were scattered through my 8 innings of work and I shut down the Rockies' offense until they broke the shutout bid with two runs in the 8th. They added another run against Rios, our closer, but it wasn't enough as the Dodgers won, 4-3, and I pick up my second win of the year. The game also featured an inside-the-park home run by Furcal in the 6th inning. If I didn't keep on running, I had a single and went 1-3, he probably would have ran over me.

I was kinda lucky near the end. I got a double play to get out of the 6th inning and then worked out of a 1-out, bases loaded jam in the 7th to keep the shutout intact.

We're back in LA and we are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers as my next turn in the rotation comes around. Right off the bat, I allow a 3-run blast by Braun in the top of the first and got yanked for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth after allowing another couple of runs in the top half of the 6th. I wish that I could be more consistent but we'll see as the season rolls along. We lost the game 5-3.
