    It's the opening series of the season. Expectations for me are high as I sit #2 in the starting rotation and also among the top 60 in MLB. The Dodgers are hosting the Houston Astros and it's nothing but pure dominance. The Astros don't get a hit until one out in the top of the 5th and I only allow 4 hits as I go the distance on 77 pitches and get the first shutout of my career, blanking Houston, 5-0.

      The Colorado Rockies are in town as it comes time for my second start of the season. I pitch my way out of trouble in the first two innings and end up allowing ten hits before being pulled with one out in the 7th inning. On my third time at the plate, I was drilled by the Rockies' pitcher. I start to go for the pitcher but the Colorado catcher kept me from getting at the pitcher. My scoreless string continues as I don't allow a run in my 7 1/3 innings.

        We are on our first road trip of the season and we are in Coors Field to face the Rockies. It didn't take long for my scoreless inning streak to end as I allow a run in the first and then two more in the second. I hold the Rockies to 10 hits in six innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th and leave with Colorado winning 3-0. We are able to scratch another run home in the top of the 9th as the Rockies held on for a 3-2 win, my first loss of the season.

          After a scheduled day off, we are in San Francisco to face the Giants. I am staked to a 3-0 lead through the first five inning then I allow a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 6th and the G-men are within one. We get another run in the 7th but I allow a couple of base runners on in the bottom of the 8th before being pulled. The Giants ended up tying the game as my replacement allows both runners to score. The Blue Crew gets 4 runs in the top of the 9th and the Dodgers win, 8-4.

            We are back in Chavez Revine and are hosting the San Diego Padres. I scatter three hits before being pulled in the bottom of the 7th inning with a runner on and the score, 1-0, Dodgers. The Padres end up scoring three times in the top of the 8th and another run in the top of the 9th as they go on to win, 4-1.

              The manager called me into his office today to let me know that I had satisfied all 5 of my goals and I was being promoted to staff ace.

              Here are my new goals:

              1. Increase H/9 attribute over next 7 series
              2. Increase durability over next 7 series
              3. Over the next 7 series, have a WHIP lower than 1.000
              4. Over the next 7 series, have at least 23.0 innings pitched
              5. Over the next 7 series, allow 19 hits or less

                Today is my last start of the month and we are on the road facing the New York Mets. I give up a solo shot in the bottom of the 2nd then the offense tacks on runs in the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings to give me a 3-1 lead. I give up two runs in the bottom of the 7th and I am pulled with only one out. The game goes into extra innings before the Mets are able to scratch out a run and they win in 12 innings, 4-3.

                  The end of the first month comes around and I find myself in the top 15 in four pitching categories.

                  Everyone is getting to be on edge as we find that the front office of the Dodgers are in "rebuilding" mode. This is my second year of a 2-year deal so we'll just have to wait and see what the GM is going to do. In the mean time, I'm just going to go out to the mound and keep giving it my best effort.

                    We continue our road trip and are now in Atlanta to take on the Braves. I allow a run in the bottom of the second but it's zeroes the rest of the way as I shut them down. Unfortunately, Atlanta's pitcher was much better as he shuts us out and allowed only four hits as the Dodgers lose, 1-0.

                      We're back home for a short time and are hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks. The offense gives me a 2-run lead and I give up a solo run in the 4th to make it 2-1, us. It stays that way as I am pulled in the top of the 7th after allowing my 11th hit of the game. Arizona ended up scoring a run in the next inning to tie the game but we ended up winning in 13 innings, 3-2.

                        We are on the road again and are in Chicago to face the Cubs. I am cruising along for the first four innings with the Cubs in front, 1-0, when the wheels totally come off. I allow a grand slam to Adam LaRoche and that was followed by a solo blast not soon after as I get yanked in the inning. This was a total mess. The Cubs ended up tacking on more runs off our bullpen as they went on to win the game, 9-2.

                          We're back home again as we host the St.Louis Cardinals. I allow a run in the first inning and then shut them down the rest of my outing. I am lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 8th and, thanks to a couple of errors, we score 3 times to take a 3-1 lead. Rios came in and picked up the save as the Dodgers win, 3-1. This was a much better outing for me as I scattered only 8 hits and 1 walk.

                            I was called into the manager's office and was told that I made a good effort by reaching 3 of my 5 goals.

                            Here is my next set of goals.
