Crossing The Bridge | Minnesota Twins

Rosters: OSFM updated with draft picks
162 games (I'll try to be consistent in playing all of them promptly)
I don't like playing with AL teams because of the DH, but I like the Twins system and plan to rebuild with the start they already have. I hope you all enjoy this.

Looking forward to this. If I was going to run with a AL team besides Seattle the Twins would be it. I am a big fan of Hicks in fact I am getting ready to make a deal for him and I already dealt for T. Ploufee. In my Franchise the Twins already made the switch the Sano and Buxton and so far both are playing pretty well.

That's awesome. I'm really going to struggle with this whole losing thing because I hate losing. But they have some nice pieces down on the farm to work with. Looking forward to the deadline and see if I can move someone.

                You know I'll be following.

Don't expect to lose. Look at what everyone was saying about the Bucco's before the season and look where they're at not only in real life but in my franchise as well!!

                Good luck!

                      Spring Training Recap
Twins have a few question marks heading north.
                      By Aaron Ferguson
                      Minneapolis, MN
The Minnesota Twins are heading north for Opening Day with some questions to their roster still in place. Kyle Gibson sustained a fractured hand after posting a 4.66 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 29 innings pitched. He is heading to the 15-day disabled list and could be out for up to two months. That leaves several questions about the rotation to begin the season. Who performed well to stay in the rotation, and who will get a new opportunity as the season begins?

Vance Worley will be the ace of this staff. The 25-year old Worley is looking to be the piece the Twins will build around to begin with this year. Behind him, Brian Duensing will fill Gibson's place after pitching well out of the bullpen. Cole De Vries will also get the call as the team's number four starter. As manager Ron Gardenhire put it, "De Vries gives a better chance to win with his pitches than Correia does." Kevin Correia will replace Brian Duensing in the bullpen to begin the season. Glen Perkins will remain in the closer role and the other relievers will be placed on a trial situation with Anthony Swarzak getting the lead as the setup man.

The starting lineup will go about as planned. The Twins lineup was healthy and produced what was expected of them. Aaron Hicks will make his Major League debut on Opening Day hitting second and starting in center field for Gardenhire. Chris Colabello will also make the roster out of spring as he hit a eye-opening .344 with 2 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Darin Mastroianni will also make the roster and will be on the bench to start the year. Mastroianni will provide time off for Hicks and Willingham when they need a rest. The starting lineups will look as follows:
                      SS Jamey Carroll
                      CF Aaron Hicks (R)
                      C Joe Mauer
                      1B Justin Morneau
                      LF Josh Willingham
                      DH Ryan Doumit
                      3B Trevor Plouffe
                      RF Chris Parmelee
                      2B Brian Dozier

The lineups will be adjusted for different pitching matchups and off days, but this will consistently be the starting lineup for Ron Gardenhire's team this year. The team is projected to win 73 games this season, however a lot of factors could change that quickly. Opening Day is upon us in the Twin Cities.

Twins Chase Verlander, Hang-On for Win

The Twins' bats were alive on an unusual Opneing Day
                          By Aaron Ferguson
                          Minneapolis, MN
It was an unusual day to begin with in Minnesota with the temperature lingering around 70 degrees and sunny skies. Usually it's still snowing in parts of Minnesota when the first day of April comes around. However, it made for a beautiful spring day on MLB's Opening Day at Target Field between the Tigers and Twins.

Former AL MVP and Cy Young winner, Justin Verlander, took the mound for the Tigers in search for a hot start. It appeared as if it was going to be just that for Verlander after pitching a perfect first inning on just 11 pitches. However, in the second inning, the Twins knocked him around for four runs in the inning. Verlander's day would end in the third without recording an out. He gave up home runs to Justin Morneau and Josh Willingham after a big second inning. Verlander was relieved by Rick Porcello.

Through the middle innings, the score pretty much stayed the same. Worley did what he could to keep the Tigers scoreless and had a couple of double plays to help him out. Porcello matched Worley's performance and kept the Twins off base. However, both Worley and Porcello would give up a couple runs. Worley would end up giving up a two-run home run to reigning MVP and Triple Crown winner, Miguel Cabrera. Porcello would also give up a home run to fan-favorite, Joe Mauer.

The Twins have a lot of questions about their starting rotation and their bullpen heading into the season, but they got an unexpected pop from the lineup on a near-record day in Minneapolis. The twins ended up getting three home runs in today's contest and the big second inning would allow Worley to settle in with little pressure.

                            Morneau Carries Twins to Win

Hunter's home run wasn't enough for the Tigers.

Another day with the temperature lingering around 70 degrees and the Twins played like it was a mid-summer day. A 3.5 hour game was seemed very quick due to the great starting pitching today. Despite the two starters giving up a combined six earned runs, they had two good outings.

Mike Pelfrey ran into some trouble in the fifth inning after giving up a 444-foot home run to former Twin, Torii Hunter. Hunter's home run tied things up at 1 after an early run for the Twins in the fourth. Pelfrey ran into more trouble giving up a two-out, run-scoring single to Prince Fielder, bringing Austin Jackson around. The Tigers lead 2-1 at this point and it looked like Pelfrey's day was done.

Anibal Sanchez had a low pitch count all day long. However, he ran into trouble with runner on first and third and one out facing Justin Morneau. Sanchez delivered a 2-2 slider that Morneau got under and was driven to left field. With the wind blowing out, the ball kept carrying and Tigers left-fielder, Andy Dirks, just missed robbing Morneau's home run. The Twins would take a 4-2 lead through six innings and Sanchez's day would be done.

The Twins bullpen allowed just one hit in two and one-third innings pitched. That one hit ended up being a solo home run by Prince Fielder. Glen Perkins would slam the door shut in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season and seal the second win of the season for the Twins.

                              Bombing Detroit, Twins Get Sweep

Minnesota had the long ball working again Thursday.

Another warm, spring day in the Twin Cities with the combination of double-digit wind allowed for balls to soar out of Target Field today. A total of five home runs were hit in a 9-3 Twins victory.

Darin Mostroainni started things off in the second inning with a two-run double to give the Twins an early lead. However, Miguel Cabrera would come back with an answer and hit his second home run of the season to tie things up in the fourth. Trevor Plouffe would respond with his first big fly of the season to re-take a 4-2 lead for Minnesota.

Scott Diamond look sharp today allowing just three runs on five hits through eight innings of work and striking out 10 batters. Doug Fister struggled and couldn't even get out of the fifth inning today. Mauer, Morneau and Willingham also hit home runs today off of Detroit pitchers. In total, there were eight bombs hit against Detroit in this series.

Minnesota outscored the Tigers 23-9 in the series and had great pitching all-around. The Twins will travel to Baltimore for a weekend series against the Orioles. This is the start of a six-game road trip that will conclude in Kansas City.
