    Twins Walk-Off Again

Minnesota showcased their resiliency with their second straight walk-off win.
    By Aaron Ferguson
    Minneapolis, MN

The Twins have done it again. They've come back time and time again, but this has to be their best win yet. Minnesota is going up against a Rangers team that has one of the best pitching staffs and best offensive teams in all of baseball. However, the Twins wouldn't let that stop them in last night's 9-8 victory.

Vance Worley got into a lot of early trouble and would hit the showers after just three innings after allowing six runs (five earned) against the Rangers. Pedro Florimon would do so damage in the fifth with a two-run double to cut the lead to 6-2. In the sixth, the Twins had three straight hits to kick the inning off. Following the three straight hits, Trevor Plouffe would hit a grand slam to tie the game at six.

After three great innings from rookie, Ryan Pressly, Michael Tonkin came in to pitch the seventh inning. Tonkin would give up a run to the Rangers' lineup and the lead grew to 7-6. In the eighth, Casey Fiend would give up a run on a RBI-double by Adrian Beltre to stretch the lead to 8-6.

The resiliency of this team was certainly on display. After Ryan Doumit singled off of Joakim Soria, Aaron Hicks would hit a two-run home run off of Ramon Mendez to tie the game back up at eight. The ninth inning ended up being a wash after neither team could get something brewing.

Glen Perkins would come in to pitch the tenth inning for the Twins. After allowing two hits to lead off the inning, Perkins began to buckle down. Beltre would pop up to Morneau for an infield fly to get the first out of the inning. The second out of the inning was generated on a weak fly ball by Nelson Cruz hit to left field with no advancement from the runners. The final out of the inning was an AJ Pierzynski ground out.

With just two relievers left in the Rangers bullpen, they were trying to let Kirkman get through the tenth. That plan would eventually be spoiled by the Twins. Justin Morneau leadoff the inning with lead-off single into center field. After a wild pitch by Kirkman, Morneau would advance to second. Josh Willingham grounded out 6-3, but Morneau would move up to third base. Ryan Doumit stepped in with the infield in and one away. Doumit saw a first-pitch sinker over the plate that he drove on a line into right. Morneau would score on the play and the Twins walk-off for their 14th win on the season.

Minnesota and Texas still have three games left to play of this four-game series. The Twins have won back-to-back games for the first time since April 12th and 13th when they beat the Mets. Ron Gardenhire's club has walked off in consecutive games as they look to win their first series in their last three tries.

Rangers Offense Too Much for Twins Pitching

Minnesota's pitching staff couldn't contain the Rangers offense, losing 10-3.
      By Aaron Ferguson
      Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota's pitching staff is getting hit hard as of late. Last night was no exception as the Rangers roughed up Kevin Correia and Anthony Swarzak for a combined 10 runs. The Twins' offense did their fair share of scoring by getting three runs off of Matt Harrison. However, it wasn't enough for the Twins as they fell 10-3 in yesterday's contest.

Following last night's tough loss, the Twins made a move to give their bullpen some relief this weekend. Anthony Swarzak was optioned to AAA Rochester and Samuel Deduno was recalled to the Twins. Deduno will pitch out of the bullpen for Minnesota. Last season, Deduno was 6-5 with 57 strikeouts and a 4.44 earned run average. This move is expected to give the relievers some rest as we head into a brutal stretch of games.

Minnesota is starting to fall off here in late April. They've lose 7 of their last 11 games. Even though the Twins lead the Central, they have to face Derek Holland, Yu Darvish and Justin Verlander in three of the next four games. Things are not looking up for the Twins as their pitching and hitting is struggling as of late.

        Twins Fall, Once Again

Minnesota is in a slump offensively and can't find a timely hit.
        By Aaron Ferguson
        Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota struggles once again against the Rangers. Darin Mastroianni provided the hometown fans some excitement with a two-run home run in the first to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. However, Harden was less than stellar in his second start for the club. Allowing the Rangers to score six runs off him, Harden could find his way back to the minor leagues after just two starts.

Ian Kinsler is raking for the Rangers through April. In this series alone, Kinsler is 6-8 with 3 runs scored, 6 runs batted in and one home run. The Rangers pitching has limited the Twins to five runs in the last two games after giving up nine in the first game of the series.

Minnesota knew this series would be tough, now they have to turn their heads towards Yu Darvish in today's matchup. With a slumping lineup and a inconsistent pitching staff, the Twins front office has many ideas being thrown on the table here in late April already.

It could be possible that there is a free agent signing within the next week. More organizational moves are also expected to enhance the team's pitching and offense after recent struggles.

          Twins Force Series Split

Mike Pelfrey lead the Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Rangers, beating Yu Darvish.
          By Aaron Ferguson
          Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota was in desperate need of a win against the Rangers. The Twins were in jeopardy of losing the lead in the Central, with the Indians hot on their tail. Gardenhire got a great pitching performance from Mike Pelfrey, which led to the Twins win.

Pelfrey pitched a solid seven innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. His counterpart, Yu Darvish went just five innings allowing four runs on six hits.

Minnesota's Josh Willingham drove in the first run of the game on a two-out single into left, scoring Jamey Carroll. Trevor Plouffe hit a home run in the fourth to halt Darvish's momentum on the mound and giving the Twins a 2-0 lead. After allowing two runs in the fifth, the Twins offense got back in gear with a two-out, two-run double by Justin Morneau that would eventually be the game-winning hit for the Twins.

Minnesota flew to Detroit after yesterday's game. They will square off against the Tigers in a three-game series. Minnesota leads the Central with a 15-9 record, but the Indians are only a half game back. The Twins begin their 10-game road trip tomorrow at 6:05 central time.

Congrats on keeping the AL Central lead, especially after a tough series against the Rangers. Btw I can't wait to see Sano and Buxton if you ever get that far in this thing.

Oh I'll get there, don't worry. Thanks, it certainly was a tough series.

                Twins Sign Freddy Sanchez

10:44 AM Minnesota has signed a 1 year $2.5 million dollar contract with the Twins.

11:37 AM Sanchez will report to AAA for 3 games and join the Twins in Cleveland.

12:03 PM Sanchez may play shortstop for the Twins. It's unclear where exactly he will fit in.

12:11 PM Sanchez is a lifetime .297 hitter. He can play 2nd, SS, 3rd. Twins know he'll make a difference.

1:46 PM It's likely that Jamey Carroll will be sent to AAA for Sanchez.

Minnesota is riding their offense after defeating Yu Darvish two nights ago. The Twins carried momentum into last night's game against Rick Porcello and the Tigers winning 7-3. Cole De Vries gave the Twins a good pitching performance allowing just three runs and earning his second win of the season.

Ryan Doumit hit the ball well and showed that he may be coming out of his slump. Doumit went 2-4 with a double and a home run. Justin Morneau also hit his league-leading 12th home run on the season. Brian Dozier stepped up by hitting a two-run double with two outs after the Tigers intentionally walked Pedro Florimon. Dozier made the move hurt Detroit to give Minnesota a four-run lead and padding it for their bullpen.

Minnesota will wrap up the month of April with a possible record of 17-9 with a win tonight. Winning tonight won't be easy as the Twins face Justin Verlander. On opening day, the Twins chased Verlander after just two innings by scoring seven runs on eight hits. Vance Worley will pitch for the Twins in tonight's affair. Minnesota has now won their first four games against the Tigers this year. In addition to a successful month, the Twins have locked up the division lead for the month of April after the Indians snapped their nine-game losing streak in Kansas City last night.

Twins Fall to Tigers, Lose Doumit

The Twins lost a close game in Detroit 3-2, Doumit also left the game early.
                      By Aaron Ferguson
                      Detroit, MI

Verlander beat the Twins after Minnesota took batting practice off of him on opening day. The Twins hit Verlander well today, but they couldn't get the big hit to blow the game open.

Minnesota opened the scoring up with a single from Morneau that would score Parmelee. However, in the bottom of the third inning, Victor Martinez would hit a two-run home run to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Minnesota would respond as Jamey Carroll would drive in Morneau to tie the game up. But Martinez would answer with a sacrifice fly to score Prince Fielder to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

Perhaps an even bigger loss is the injury of Ryan Doumit. Doumit was sliding into second base and dislocated his ankle. Chris Colabello ran for Doumit, but now the Twins will have to find a replacement for Doumit. Doctors say that Doumit is out for the season and should recover in time for Spring Training next year.

Minnesota would end the month going 16-10 and holding a half-game lead on the Cleveland Indians in the central division. The Twins hit .286 in April and scored 132 runs, however the gave up 138 runs and have an earned run average of 5.17.

Minnesota will finish the series in Detroit with a rubber match. Kevin Correia will take the mound for the Twins against Anibal Sanchez for the Tigers.

Gibson as well. I just can't win right now. Doumit's obviously the biggest loss, losing him for the year. Diamond and Gibson will both be back, it's just a matter of time though. I can't afford to lose another pitcher.

                                Twins Lose in Rubber Match

Minnesota lost a tough game at the hands of the Tigers, 8-5.
                                By Aaron Ferguson
                                Detroit, MI

Minnesota lost their 11th game of the season yesterday to the Tigers, but this may be the toughest loss of them all. Kevin Correia struggled in the first inning. After giving up two base hits, Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run home run and following that was a Prince Fielder solo home run to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Fielder would strike again in the third inning hitting his league-leading 13th home run of the season.

The Twins would answer however, scoring four runs in the fourth and their fifth run in the fifth to tie the game up at five all. Minnesota loaded the bases up in the seventh inning, but Jamey Carroll tried a safety squeeze and it ended up being a triple play. The Twins' baserunners believed the ball was caught by Phil Coke, but he let it hit the ground first. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers would score three runs to take an 8-5 lead.

Minnesota will turn the page and play the Cleveland Indians this weekend. The Twins hold just a half-game lead over the Indians and Tigers in the Central division. Freddy Sanchez will join the Twins in Cleveland to make his season debut on Friday night. Jamey Carroll has to clear three-day waivers before joining AAA Rochester. Sanchez is expected to play shortstop for the Twins.
