    Twins Comeback to Beat O's

Minnesota's seventh inning rally leads to victory over Orioles, 4-3.
    By Aaron Ferguson
    Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota showed a flash of resiliency to comeback against Baltimore after giving up their lead early.

The Twins got an early, second inning run against the O's after Trevor Plouffe led off with a double and Chris Parmelee drove him home.

However, the Orioles would answer in the fourth inning by scoring two runs off of Vance Worley. Worley would calm down after this rough inning to finish the game strong. Worley allowed just three earned runs last night, which was half of the six runs he allowed in his previous start.

Aaron Hicks would score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at two. Down one in the seventh, Plouffe led off with another double, setting up a great opportunity to tie the game. Hicks would strike against with an opposite-field double to score Plouffe. With the game tied, Josmil Pinto would eventually hit a sacrifice fly to give the Twins the 4-3 lead.

After a scoreless frame from Jared Burton in the eighth, Glen Perkins would be entrusted with the game in the ninth. Perkins allowed a one-out double to Nolan Reimold, who had been relatively quiet in his previous seven at-bats. However, this double went off the yellow line, but in front of the wall and not on top of it. Perkins would strike out Wieters and Hardy to end the game and preserve his 11th save of the season.

Baltimore will send Kevin Correia to the mound in the rubber match against the Orioles' Chris Tillman in this afternoon's game.

Great to see Worley have a solid start. That's what you need from the guy who you hope to be your #1.

It really looks like your batting lineup is playing pretty solid, if you can keep getting some solid pitching I see the Twins challenging for a playoff spot this year.

Things have been shaky for a little while in the lineup. We'd get solid production from a few guys and then the rest wouldn't produce. It's kind of been hit or miss lately. Pitching has been awful as of late. I keep searching for different possibilities, but haven't found anything as of late. I plan on doing something different for the "Organization Update" that's coming up in a couple of games. You'll get a better idea of how things have truly gone (in my eyes.)

        Thanks for checking in!

          Slugfest Results In Twins Loss

Minnesota lost a 12-8 slugfest in the rubber match of the series against Baltimore.
          By Aaron Ferguson
          Minneapolis, MN

A never-ending hit parade occurred at Target Field yesterday in an Orioles 12-8 victory over the Twins.

Starters Kevin Correia and Chris Tillman both got roughed up by their opposing lineups. However, Correia got the worst of it by giving up one last three-run home run to Adam Jones. Tillman fought through five innings to put himself in line for the win.

The Twins offense was on display without the likes of Joe Mauer or Justin Morneau. Morneau, who originally started the game, was taken out in the top of the first inning with a flexor strain after diving for a line drive. Gardenhire elected to put Chris Parmelee at first base in his place. Mauer had the afternoon off for the Twins.

Despite having two of the biggest bats out of the lineup and a struggling Josh Willingham, the Twins managed eight runs off of the Orioles staff. Mauer was happy with the team's performance. "I was disappointed I couldn't get out and join the fun," Mauer said, "The guys saw the ball well and smashed it today."

Losing two out of three games this series, the Twins have fallen a half-game behind the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians in the AL Central division. Minnesota will host the Chicago White Sox for three games beginning today. Chicago is currently 12-25 and last in the AL Central.

              Harden Beats Peavy, Twins Win

Rich Harden nearly went the distance and led the Twins to a 4-3 win.
              By Aaron Ferguson
              Minneapolis, MN

Rich Harden retired a string of 13 hitters before his exit of a 4-3 Twins victory.

Harden pitched very well, only allowing a mistake pitch to Alejandro de Aza in the fifth inning which went for a two-run home run. Harden would settle down afterwards, and was left in the game because of his quick innings. Even though Harden was fatigued, Gardenhire allowed him to go until he gave up a baserunner.

Chris Colabello gave the Twins an early 1-0 lead on his first career home run. Minnesota would add two more runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Joe Mauer hit his third home run of the season in the eighth inning to stretch the Twins lead to 4-2.

Minnesota will face John Danks tonight while having Mike Pelfrey on the mound. The Twins will attempt to beat Danks for the second time this season. Danks got the loss in a 2-0 Twins win on April 21 in Chicago.

                Willingham Powers Twins Past Chicago

Josh Willingham's three-run homer gave the Twins a 5-2 lead and ended up being the decisive blow.
                By Aaron Ferguson
                Minneapolis, MN

Mike Pelfrey's pitching performance and Josh Willingham's timely hit was enough to beat the White Sox 6-2.

Josh Willingham was set-up with two runners on and nobody out with a 3-1 count in the sixth inning. Willingham got a fastball from new pitcher, Matt Lindstrom, and Willingham took it deep for a three-run home run to give the Twins a 5-2 lead. Willingham had been cold coming into the series, but is now 4-7 with a home run and four runs batted in against the White Sox in this series.

Mike Pelfrey struggled with control early in the game, but ended up overcoming his troubles to go eight, strong innings against the Twins. Pelfrey had Adam Dunn's number last night, striking Dunn out three times. Minnesota's defense helped Pelfrey out in a few tight situations to escape with no runs or one in the early innings.

Josh Roenicke came in relief for Pelfrey and got two outs. Roenicke would give up two hits with one out and that would get Glen Perkins back up in the bullpen with the threat of facing Adam Dunn. Roenicke got Paul Konerko to strike out and Ron Gardenhire would make the switch to Perkins with Dunn up next. Perkins would only need three pitches to strike Dunn out for the fourth time in the game.

Minnesota reclaims first place in the Central with the Indians losing to the Phillies. Minnesota leads by a half-game over Detroit and a full game over Cleveland. With last night's loss, the White Sox now trail the Twins by 10 games in the division.

Alex Meyer will be making his major league debut for the Twins today. Meyer was 6-0 with a 1.99 earned run average at triple-a Rochester this year. He will face Chicago's Gavin Floyd in a getaway day for the White Sox.

                  Meyer Earns First Win

Alex Meyer pitched incredibly well in his debut as the Twins beat the White Sox 3-2.

Alex Meyer's Major League Debut couldn't have had a better storyline as he beat the White Sox.

Meyer started smoothly, recording the first out of the game. He ran into some trouble afterwards that and gave up an early run. Chicago led 1-0 at this point, but it was all temporary. Meyer wouldn't allow another hit in the remainder of his outing. Meyer went deep into the eighth inning allowing two hits and just the one run.

The Target Field crowd was at capacity to see the young pitching prospect make his debut. When Meyer was pulled, there wasn't anyone sitting in their seat. White Sox fans, Twins fans and baseball fans all gave Meyer a standing ovation as he walked to the dugout.

"This is by far the best memory I'll take away from my career," Meyer said, "The fans were great, our defense was great and our offense got a lead. You can't draw up a better baseball game."

Minnesota sweeps the White Sox and improve to 23-17 and maintain their half-game lead over the Tigers in the AL Central. The Twins have an off day and will not practice before they begin a series with the Red Sox at Target Field. This series will begin a stretch of 17 consecutive games played by the Twins.

Worley Goes the Distance in Shutout

Vance Worley looked the best he's been all season in last night's 4-0 win.
                        By Aaron Ferguson
                        Minneapolis, MN

Vance Worley looked like the ace that everyone expected him to be last night by earning a complete game, shutout.

Worley is the first Twins pitcher to go the distance this year. Running into trouble in the first inning was key in Worley's shutout by leaving two runners in scoring position. That was Boston's best chance at scoring last night.

Aaron Hicks also excelled by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs batted in. Hicks is now up to six home runs this season and 23 runs batted in while hitting at a .302 mark.

Justin Morneau returned to the lineup for the first time since being injured in Sunday's game. He went 1-for-3 with his third double this season and scoring a run. Morneau looked good defensively and appears to be fully healthy.

Cole De Vries' start got pushed back after calling Alex Meyer up; he'll start tonight's game for the Twins. Clay Buchholz will start for the Red Sox. In his last start against Minnesota, Buchholz went eight innings and allowed just two runs.

                          Buchholz Ends Twins 4-Game Streak

                          By Aaron Ferguson
                          Minneapolis, MN

Clay Buchholz continues his Cy Young season with another good start against the Twins to get his sixth win.

Boston dominated in all areas of the game, and the Twins looked like they were in a funk. Justin Morneau's 13-game hitting streak has come to an end. Minnesota had some baserunners, but they couldn't string them together to get a rally going. The biggest disappointment had to be Freddy Sanchez flying out with the bases loaded against Buchholz.

Cole De Vries didn't pitch poorly, he just didn't get any help from his defense. Josh Willingham looked a little sluggish in left field and made a couple of mental errors. Brian Dozier left the game in the sixth inning due to tightness in his leg after diving for a ground ball. He is expected to be ok and in the lineup in today's game.

The Twins will host the Red Sox for one last game today. Rich Harden will go against Felix Doubront in the rubber match of this three-game set. Following the game, Minnesota will travel to Atlanta to play a three-game series with the Braves.

                            Poor Management, Twins Lose

                            By Aaron Ferguson
                            Minneapolis, MN

Ron Gardenhire's poor decision to leave Rich Harden in cost Minnesota the lead and the game.

Harden had a quality start heading into the seventh inning, but Gardenhire wanted him to pitch through the danger and it came back to hurt the Twins.

"This game's on me," Gardenhire said. "I shouldn't have left him (Harden) in the game after allowing two leadoff hits."

Boston scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead against the Twins. The Red Sox bullpen would shut down the Twins offense the rest of the way.

The Twins had a great game offensively, but couldn't get anything going in the late innings. They continue to look impressive and are waiting on the pitching to work things out.

The Twins head to Atlanta to begin a 10-game road trip. Pitching will be key on the road as their offense has been very productive the past couple weeks.

                                Plouffe Powers Twins Past Braves

                                By Aaron Ferguson
                                Atlanta, GA

Minnesota's offense was resilient by overcoming a five-run deficit against the Braves last night.

Mike Pelfrey had a rough first inning. He allowed five runs in the inning, but only allowed four hits. He suffered control problems and got behind a lot of hitters. Pelfrey would rebound and not allow a baserunner in his next four innings of work.

In the meantime, The Twins offense would be powered by Trevor Plouffe's two-run home run in the fourth inning to bring the game within one run. Plouffe would have a total of four runs batted in and two runs on the night to carry the offense to an 8-5 victory.

Sam Deduno pitched great out of the inning, allowing the middle relievers to get a day off. Glen Perkins allowed the first two baserunners to get on with back-to-back hits to open the ninth. Perkins would shut the door by striking the next three hitters out, however.

Minnesota plays against Atlanta tonight. Alex Meyer will make his second career start against Kris Medlen, who has pitched well for the Braves this year.
