Re: Crossing The Bridge | Minnesota Twins

Dude, you absolutely DESTROYED my Royals... I can't believe all of our starters only went 4 innings each... wait, yes I can. Hochevar was in the rotation.

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Don't feel bad, 8 of the 9 starters I've faced haven't made it past the fifth inning. Part of it is large pitch counts because of my patience at the plate. I know that pitchers are getting relieved early to preserve their arms. That's what I've been doing too. I can't believe that I'm 8-1 to be honest. I was planning on doing poorly, but this offense is just clicking with me.

I wish I could be patience. I think I only avg like 2 BB a game I had a game the other day where for the first 3 IP I hit and recorded outs on 9 of the first 15 pitches I saw...

Yikes! I have a couple of games like that, but luckily my offense is hitting the ball well. I think my patience comes from IRL when I was best when I hit with 2 strikes.

              Resilient Twins Comeback Again

Morneau's grand slam and Plouffe's home run give Twins the win.
              By Aaron Ferguson
              Minneapolis, MN
Kevin Correia got off to a very shaky start to begin the game. After recording a strikeout to Eric Young Jr, the Mets started a rally. All three runs in the inning would end up scoring with two outs. Lucas Duda did the bulk of the damage by driving a two-out double to score two runs. After a perfect second inning, Correia gave up a RBI single to Daniel Murphy to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.

Dillon Gee was perfect through the order the first time, but the second time was a little different. Gee would allow a leadoff walk and two singles to follow to load the bases. It looked as if Gee was about to get a big out when Justin Morneau swung at a bad pitch for a second strike, however Gee left a hanging changeup that Morneau made sure he paid for. Morneau tied the game up with a grand slam. Doumit would walked after Willingham flied out to left field to bring Trevor Plouffe up. Plouffe hit a two-strike pitch to right field on a towering fly ball. The wind caught the ball and carried it out for a two-run home run to give the Twins a 6-4 lead.

Correia and the Twins bullpen would shut down the Mets lineup from there to earn their ninth win of the season. Correia looked sharp in last night's contest and may stay in the rotation. Ron Gardenhire was pleased with his effort, "Kevin pitched well enough to win tonight. It wasn't ideal for us giving up 4 early runs, but our offense is resilient."

Sorry for the lack of updates. Today (Sunday) is my birthday and I got taken on a surprise trip to Kansas City (3.5 hour drive) to see my Red Sox play as my birthday present. Sooo...I think you can understand that! Haha.

                  Worley's Return Was Spectacular

Vance Worley out-pitched Matt Harvey and lead the Twins past the Mets.
                  By Aaron Ferguson
                  Minneapolis, MN

Vance Worley was cleared by team doctor's to pitch after an assessment Friday evening. Worley was chosen to start against Harvey after plenty of rest. Worley's big afternoon fueled the Twins as they beat the Mets 6-3 Saturday afternoon. Worley threw eight strong innings while allowing two runs on just five hits.

Minnesota's offense continues to hit at a high level. Lead by Trevor Plouffe, the Twins scored four runs off of Matt Harvey. Plouffe's two-run home run put the Twins ahead 4-0 and would eventually be enough to win the game. Plouffe was happy with his performance, "It's nice to please the home fans in a big game against a great, young pitcher."

New York will throw Johan Santana on the bump against Minnesota's Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey is 2-0 with a 3.09 earned run average (ERA) in two starts this season. Santana is 1-0 with a 2.30 ERA in his two starts. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 local time at Target Field.

Santana Blanks Twins in Return to Minnesota

Minnesota's bats couldn't get anything going against Johan Santana.
                        By Aaron Ferguson
                        Minneapolis, MN
It was another beautiful day in the Twin Cities for some baseball. Johan Santana would make a return start against the Twins. He felt at home against the Twins, only allowing three hits all game. Santana threw a three-hit shutout, powering the Mets to a 9-0 win over the Twins.

Throughout the course of the series, it looked like the Minnesota offense was beginning to slow down. Despite winning the first two games of the series, the Twins were outscored 16-12 in the three-game set. A low spot was seeing Duensing pitch poorly out of the bullpen yesterday. He has now started a game and come in as a reliever and has allowed 10 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched.

Minnesota has to move on from this series with the 3-9 Angels coming into town next. Although the bottom of the rotation will pitch for both teams, Jerome Williams of the Angels leads the league in ERA (0.68.) Williams, however has lost his first two starts in 1-0 ball games. Minnesota's offense will need to pick up this series to win the three-game set.

                            Iannetta Goes Yard, Twice

Minnesota can't contain the Angels' offense in a 10-3 loss.

                            Minneapolis, MN
It was another rough night for Minnesota pitchers. The Angels had runners on base the entire night and struck for 10 runs. Chris Iannetta played a big part in the outburst by hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. Mike Trout hit his first home run on the season as well. The Twins have now lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Scott Diamond settled down after the fifth inning to retire the side in the sixth. After allowing a walk, Gardenhire decided to pull Diamond and bring in Brian Duensing. Gardenhire wanted to give Duensing a chance to redeem himself, however he couldn't. Brian gave up four runs, though only three were charged to him. The Twins will have to get through the next two games without having to go deep into their bullpen to avoid problems with tiring pitchers.

"It's just unfortunate how things have worked out for us these past two games. Duensing looked good in spring training, but he just doesn't have it anymore," Gardenhire talked about his team's play. "We hit the ball well tonight, but our pitching didn't give us a chance to win the game."

Minnesota will be tasked with facing Jason Vargas in tomorrow's game. Cole De Vries will take the mound for the third time for the Twins this season.

                              Patriots Day Gone Wrong

Not only did the Red Sox lose, Boston lost emotionally on a tough day.
                              Associated Press
                              Boston, MA
Patriots Day is a holiday celebrated in Massachusetts across the entire state. It is also known as the day of the Boston Marathon, however things went wrong in today's race. Two bombs exploded during yesterday's event, killing several and injuring hundreds. Boston-area hospitals are treating victims that were injured in the two blasts.

Officials are looking at any evidence they can recover from the bombing sites along with any surveillance video that may show possible suspects. Right now, the media display the only footage of the two explosions that occurred only an hour after the Red Sox game concluded.

Around Major League Baseball tomorrow, the teams will have a moment of silence before the game and will play "God Bless America" in the seventh inning before the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." Other teams around the league may add their own events after yesterday's bombings.
