    Twins Lose Third Straight

Twins pitching costs them another game, lose 8-3.
    By Aaron Ferguson
    Minneapolis, MN
The Twins lose for the third straight day. Minnesota scored three runs in last night's game, but it wasn't enough to beat the Angels. Los Angeles scored four runs in the top of the first inning, powered by Eric Aybar's first-pitch home run off of Cole De Vries.

De Vries had a rough first inning, but settled in afterwards. He would allow just three addistional runs in four-plus innings after the lopsided first inning. The Twins offense has scored three runs in each of the past two games after getting shutout on Sunday. A positive sign has to be that the Twins scorched five doubles off of Jason Vargas, who earned his first win on the season.

Ron Gardenhire has officially brought Rich Harden to the bullpen for the time being and may see some rotation time. "We decided to let Duensing move down a level to try and gain some confidence. In the meantime, Harden will serve in his spot," Gardenhire said.

Minnesota is on a three-game skid and hold just a two-and-a-half game lead over the Kansas City Royals in the central division. Jerome Williams will be the next test for the Twins. Williams has just a 0.68 earned run average, but has lost his first two starts. Runs will be hard to come by for the Twins tonight.

Correia's Strong Start Powers Twins to Win

Kevin Correia nearly went the distance as the Twins snap a three-game losing streak.
      By Aaron Ferguson
      Minneapolis, MN
Kevin Correia has pitched well early this season and tonight was no exception. Correia was two outs shy of a shutout against Jerome Williams. Williams falls to sixth in earned run average (ERA.) Correia earns his second win on the season.

Ryan Doumit fired the first shot with a solo home run to right field off of Williams in the second inning. For a good part of the game, it looked as if it would be another 1-0 game against Williams. However, the Twins took advantage of Williams with Willingham's two-run double in the sixth to knock Williams out of the game and the Angels trailing 3-0. Justin Morneau would hit his league-leading ninth home run to extend the lead to 5-0 before Correia went out to pitch the ninth.

Correia needed a little help to get the final two outs as his pitch count exceeded 100. Glen Perkins would eventually get his seventh save on the season, which is tied with Greg Holland for most in the American League.

The Twins improve to 11-4 on the season. They will travel to Chicago for a quick, three-game series with the White Sox. Chicago is currently 8-8 and 3.5 games behind the Twins in the central division. Their 8-8 record is good enough for third in the division, with the Tigers a half game behind them. Minnesota's bats will need to come to life again against a tough pitching staff.

In or Out? Controversial Loss for Twins

Paul Konerko's home run swung the momentum to the Sox, but was it a home run?
          By Aaron Ferguson
          Chicago, IL
Two of the most powerful teams in baseball squared off against each other last night. The Chicago White Sox hosted the Twins in the first game of a three-game series. Hector Santiago ran into some trouble early, but it seemed as if the Sox would always find an answer to the Twins attack. The teams went back and forth for several inning as the game was tied 4-4 through four innings.

Worley previously beat the Mets by nearly going the distance and allowing just two runs, however tonight was a different story. Paul Konerko hit a solo home run in the fifth to give the White Sox the lead and would eventually win the game for Chicago. However, was the ball ruled a home run correctly, or should it have been a double? Konerko's home run hit the top of the yellow line, but didn't go over the wall completely and bounced back into play.

The umpires ruled it a home run and didn't bother to get together and talk about it. It was a crucial call that changed the entire complex of the game. Ron Gardenhire was not happy about the call saying, "It cost us a game tonight. That ball never went out and the umpires know it." Minnesota would eventually allow the Sox to score three more runs to make it an 8-4 game.

In the ninth, the Twins would get things going with two outs. Ryan Doumit would pinch hit for Darin Mastroianni at the top of the lineup. Doumit would fly out to left field to end the game. Minnesota would lose 8-4 and fall to 11-5 on the season.

With the Royals winning, Minnesota's lead in the Central Division is now just one-and-a-half games over Kansas City. Mike Pelfrey will pitch against Jake Peavy in tomorrow afternoon's game.

            Twins Get Blasted

Chicago proves dominant once again against the struggling Twins.
            By Aaron Ferguson
            Chicago, IL
The Minnesota Twins are officially in a funk after yesterday afternoon's game. Jake Peavy was dominant against the Twins after he allowed three hits in the second inning. Peavy would retire the next 18 hitters, broken up by Jamey Carroll's double in the eighth, and 24 of his last 25 on his way to a complete game.

Minnesota's pitching staff didn't help the cause out either. The Twins led this game 1-0 at one point, but the pitching staff allowed 12 unanswered runs throughout the remainder of the game. Chicago displayed their power through the rain yesterday as they belted five more home runs. Chicago is frustrating the Twins in every aspect of the game.

Joe Mauer's 14-game hitting streak was snapped yesterday as it was the first game he didn't get a hit in this season. Mauer explained his frustration, "It's been a tough week for us. We haven't pitched well and our hitting is slumping."

The Twins have lost five of their last six games. In their last six games, the Twins have only scored 16 runs, which averages out to less than three runs per game.

They can still salvage a game from this brief road trip today. John Danks will pitch against Scott Diamond as the Twins try to avoid their first sweep of the season. However, they will be without second baseman, Brian Dozier, for a couple days with a sore wrist. Dozier was injured after diving for a ball behind second base and was replaced by Pedro Florimon.

Diamond's Dominance Leads Twins to Win

Scott Diamond had a great performance, but will be out with a dislocated shoulder.
              By Aaron Ferguson
              Minneapolis, MN
Minnesota defeated the White Sox yesterday to avoid being swept. Scott Diamond paved the way for the Twins, nearly pitching a complete game. Diamond left the game one out away from a shutout after 119 pitches with a dislocated shoulder. Diamond has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Justin Morneau continued to out his power on display. After hitting just 19 home runs last season, Morneau is off to a hot start with 10 through the club's first 18 games. Morneau also scored both runs in yesterday's game in which the Twins won 2-0. Glen Perkins was ready in the bullpen in case Diamond got into trouble and recorded his eighth save of the season.

Kevin Correia will take the next start against Miami and pitch in Diamond's spot in the rotation. Rich Harden is likely to pitch the second game against the Marlins to push De Vries back to the first game against Texas. Ryan Pressly was called up from AAA after posting a 1.89 ERA in 6 appearances. Pressly will take over the long-reliever role.

Ron Gardenhire was happy with his team's performance yesterday. "Scott pitched a great game for us, it's unfortunate that he got hurt," Gardenhire said, "It was tough to lose him, he's been pitching well for us."

Minnesota will host the Miami Marlins for a quick two-game stint. Miami is 8-11 on the season while the Twins improved their record to 12-6 after yesterday's victory.

Too bad on losing Diamond, how'd he seperate his shoulder, hit with a line drive or just tired from pitching? Either way good win, and ill be following from now on.

I imagine it was from throwing so many pitches. I've been monitoring pitch counts too, which is the sad thing. It was a much-needed win with Miami coming into town now. Thanks for the follow.

Twins Fall for Fifth Time in Seven Games

Brad Hand pitches a gem against the Twins in a 5-1 Marlins victory.
                      By Aaron Ferguson
                      Minneapolis, MN

Brad Hand had struggled in his previous starts, but yesterday's game was much different. He got an early lead on a Giancarlo Stanton home run in the first inning. The bomb was Stanton's 100th for his career and 7th of the year. Hand would take care of the rest allowing just 7 baserunners throughout the game.

Rich Harden would start for the Twins in last night's game. Correia was skipped to give him extra rest, allowing him to pitch against Texas. Harden struggled through the first two innings, but settled in afterwards allowing just two runs over his last five innings.

Minnesota didn't score until Trevor Plouffe hit a two-out single in the ninth to score Mauer. The Twins avoid being shutout for the second time this season, but have gone cold offensively. They look to battle against former Twin, Kevin Slowey, in today's game.

Ron Gardenhire was impressed with Harden's start, even with his early struggles. "Harden pitched well to close out the game. I knew he was gassed after he allowed that shot to Morrison to start the eighth," Gardenhire said.

Minnesota plays Miami this afternoon to end the quick, two-game set. The Twins will have an off day Wednesday before hosting the Rangers for a four-game series at Target Field. Game time tomorrow is set for 12:10.

                        Twins Walk-Off Against Marlins

Minnesota had a great all-around team win, starting with De Vries' outing.
                        By Aaron Ferguson
                        Minneapolis, MN

Pedro Florimon got the scoring started with a two-run double for the Twins in the second, and it looked like they were in business. However, Cole De Vries ran into some trouble in the third and allowed a three-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton to give the Marlins a 4-2 lead. From there on, the Twins grinded their way to the win.

Cole De Vries ran into more trouble in the fifth allowing a single and double to start things off. Minnesota elected to walk Stanton intentionally to set-up a force out at any base. It certainly paid off as De Vries got three ground balls to end the inning without allowing a run.

Josh Willingham would tie the game up in the fifth with a solo home run. It seemed as if everything would go the Twins way from there. De Vries finished the next two innings for a solid seven-inning outing. Ryan Pressly would pitch a scoreless eighth inning in his Major League debut against the Marlins. Glen Perkins would strike out the side in the ninth.

Jamey Carroll lead-off the ninth inning with a double. Pedro Florimon could not advance Carroll on a bunt and would ground into a fielder's choice where Carroll was thrown out at third. It seemed as if momentum had been lost, but Chris Parmelee got a sinker over the heart of the plate and sent into the seats in right field to give the Twins a 6-4, walk-off win.

Minnesota will have today off before hosting a four-game series with the Texas Rangers. This is the last home stand of the month of April as the Twins will then be heading to Detroit to begin a 10-game road trip.

Parmelee batting leadoff? Is acquiring a speedy guy maybe at 2B or SS something you will look for this season. I know in both my M's Franchise's the Twins went hard after D. Gordon. Problem is he never hits well enough to be a good leadoff guy.

There is a lot I'm contemplating, but it's only April. Carroll is getting old, Plouffe has Sano on his heals. You'll see at the end of the month my dilemma when I do a full organizational update.

I don't even know if I'll be a buyer or a seller at the deadline. I also have my eyes set on the potential free agents as well. I'm excited to keep getting deeper into the season. But yes, I do want speed.

My thought on batting Parmelee leadoff was pretty simple. Mastroianni sat for rest, I didn't want Florimon or Carroll batting at the top with Dozier still out. Mainly to give our everyday guys fewer at-bats. It payed off nicely though.
