        M'S SPLIT WITH YANKEES

The Yankees won Game 1 and 2 in close 1 run games, but Seattle came out on top in Game 3 in a comeback win in the 8th, and then dominated Game 4, plating a season high 12 runs as they move to 7-6 on the season.

        GAME 1 (LOST 4-3)

Seattle jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the 1st as Trevor Story hits a solo bomb, but in the 5th Luke Voit hits a 3 run bomb of Chris Flexen to give the Yankees the lead, New York added another run in the 7th to make it 4-1, but Seattle battled back scoring 1 run in the 8th and another in the 9th as they fall short in the comeback bid.

Seattle managed 7 hits on the day but only KJ Harrison getting the start at 1B giving Evan White the day off managed more then 1 as he goes 2/4 scoring a run raising his Avg to .428. Harrison's bat is making it very hard to keep him out of the lineup every day.

Flexen pitched well despite the 3 run HR giving up just 3 other hits on the day, but takes the loss. Kohl Stewart came in relief going 1 1/3 IP but walked 3 batters and give up 1 run on 2 hits.

Nick Margevicus pitched the final 1 2/3 giving up 1 hit and striking out 2 lowering his ERA to 1.80 on the season.

        GAME 2 (LOST 1-0)

Scoreless Baseball for 7 IP, until New York broke the tie with a solo HR by Gary Sanchez in the 8th as Sean Doolittle takes the loss.

Justin Verlander lowered his ERA to 4.82 giving up 5 hits and striking out 10 over 7 IP.

Gerrit Cole went the distance giving up 5 hit's and matching Verlanders's 10 K in the victory as he improves to 2-0 on the year.

        GAME 3 (WON 2-1)

Another scoreless game for 5 IP, before New York took the lead in the 6th, but the M's tied the game 1-1 in the 7th as Trevor Story comes up with a RBI single scoring Dylan Moore who came in to pinch run for Alex Jackson. The M's then scored the winning run in the 8th as Mitch Haniger goes deep with a solo HR.

Marco Gonzales went 5 1/3 IP giving up 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks well striking out 4, Nick Margevicius got the "W" going 2 2/3 IP lowering his ERA to 1.17 in the process.

Ken Giles got his 3rd save of the year.

Noah Syndergarrd went 7 IP giving up 1 run on 4 hits well striking out 10 but gets the no-decision as Goody takes the loss giving up the dinger.

        GAME 4 (WON 12-4)

The Bats were alive as Seattle (15 hits) and New York (10 hits) combine for 25 hits on the day, but it was Seattle coming up big plating a season high 12 runs. well holding New York to just 4 with 3 of them coming in in the 9th on a 3 run HR by Stanton.

Seattle got HR's from both KJ Harrison and Ty France.. France also added a Triple on the day finishing 2/4 scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Harrison finished 3/5 getting his 4th start behind the plate.

Mitch Haniger also went 2/5 driving in 3 runs well Nelson Cruz broke out of a slump going 2/5 and driving in 4 runs including a rare bases clearing triple that took a weird bounce off the wall.

Kendall Graveman got the "W" moving to 1-1 on the year as he goes 6 IP giving up 4 hits and 1 walk.

Seranthony Dominguez gave up the 3 run HR to Stanton as his ERA ballons to 10.38 on the season.

M'S DROP 2 OF 3 TO BLUE JAYS!!

Seattle is now .500 as they move to (8-8) on the season. The Mariners made a series of roster moves during the series as Dylan Moore hits the 10 day DL with a Shoulder Strain as Leonardo Rivas get recalled from AAA Tacoma. LHP Tanner Scott (7 IP of scoreless relief) also gets called up taking Domingo Tapia's spot in the bullpen.

Tapia who was 8-2 with 3 saves and a 2.72 ERA in 72 IP last year for the M's, had posted a 8.59 ERA in 7 1/3 IP of relief so far this season.

          GAME 1 (LOST 9-3)

Toronto goes deep 3 times in the game as Gurriel Jr, Tellez and Moreno all hit dingers.

Kris Bryant hit a 3 run HR as well in the loss.

Justus Sheffield takes the loss as he goes just 4 IP giving up 7 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks well striking out 4.

Tapia gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 2 IP before his demotion.

Dominguez bounced back from giving up his 3 run dinger to Stanton the night before to pitch 2 scoreless relief striking out 3.

          GAME 2 (WON 4-1)

Chris Flexen posted his 2nd straight quality start as he goes 7 IP giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks well striking out a career high 11 batters.

Ken Giles pitched the 9th for his 4th save of the year.

At the plate both Kyle Lewis (solo) and KJ Harrison (2 run) both went deep.

Ty France finished the day 3/4 with a RBI raising his season Avg to .312

          GAME 3 (LOST 4-3)

Ken Giles blows the save for the 3rd time this season as he drops to (0-2) and raises his ERA to 14.53 as he gives up a 2 run HR to Vlad Guerreo JR.

Toronto also got HR's from Bo Bichette and Jay Bruce who signed a F.A. deal and is playing RF for the Jay's.

Leonardo Rivas got the start at 2B and had a sac fly RBI well walking once and striking out twice.

Kyle Lewis and Kris Bryant were both 2/4 in the loss.

Verlander continues to stack up K's as he gets 10 for the 2nd straight game as he goes 7 IP giving up 2 runs on 3 hits getting the no-decision.

Tanner Scott made his 2022 debut pitching the 8th as he strikes out 2.

          UP NEXT

Seattle will head to Houston to take on the (10-6) Astros. The M's trail the 3rd place Astro's by 3 games and are currently 5 games back of the AL West Division leading Angles and A's who are both (13-3) to start the year.

GM Ryan Sands will need to make some tough calls soon as he looks to shake up the roster moving into the month of May.

Several Key players are off to very slow/tough starts.

Mitch Haniger is hitting just .214 with 2 HR and 6 RBI, Kyle Lewis is hitting .217 with 3 HR and 6 RBI and Nelson Cruz is hitting .153 with 0 HR's and just 7 RBI out of the 4/5/6 spots in the order.

1B Evan White who started out hot the first couple weeks hitting over .300 is now hitting just .220 with 2 HR's but does still have a team high 12 RBI on the year.

Catcher Alex Jackson appears headed to AAA Tacoma after hitting just .136 in 22 AB's. KJ Harrison will take over behind the plate against righties as Robinson Chirinios will continue to start against lefties, However Chirinois is hitting just .118 (3/17) leading many to feel that Harrison (.393 3 HR 5 RBI) should just get the chance at being the every day catcher.

Other players who appear headed for a demotion are Shed Long Jr (.091 BA in 22 AB's).

On the Mound. Sean Doolittle is making a case to take over the 9th IP role. Doolittle has posted a 1.08 ERA in 8 1/3 IP of relief, well Giles (14.54) Dominguez (7.11) and Jordan Hicks (5.40) all have struggled.

Nick Margevicus also could be a option as he has a team best (0.96 ERA) in 9 1/3 IP of work

Not a single Starter has more then 1 win so far, and Justin Verlander is 0-1 in 4 starts despite a team high 28 K's in 25 2/3 IP.

The problem is Logan Gilbert is struggling in AAA currenting posting a 8.31 ERA in his first start that lasted just 4 IP

              M'S RELEASE CRUZ RESIGN BRAUN

This past off season, GM Ryan Sands chose not to resign 1B/OF/DH Ryan Braun who was coming off a All-Star/MVP season for the M's after he hit .267 with 31 HR and 101 RBI's.

Instead Sands chose to sign former Mariner DH Nelson Cruz. However after watching Cruz hit .154 in 66 AB's with 0 HR's and only 4 RBI's in April, Sands righted his wrong and released Cruz from his 1 year 4 million dollar contract and has decided to bring back Braun who should see the bulk of his AB's at DH but would also spell Evan White at 1B.

              Sands
"I know alot of people felt like with the way Ryan played last year, that he deserved a deal. We made a offer but at the time Ryan wanted to explore other options so we let him talk to other teams, in the process we learned Nelson wanted to come back and we honestly thought he would be a great fit in the middle of our lineup . Turns out we should've just give Ryan what he wanted"
Braun will sign a 1 year deal but will have a player option in 2023.

M'S FALL TO 11-10 IN APRIL!!

After sweeping the Astro's, Seattle closed out April losing their first 2 of 3 games vs the Minnesota Twins. The Mariners will go into May, 5 games back of the AL West leading A's (16-5), 4 games back of the Angels (16-6) and have fallen behind the Astro's as well (12-10).

Seattle posted similar #'s last year in the early months of the season before coming on strong in August and September to over take the division, so Mariner fan's shouldn't lose hope yet.

Seattle led 3-0 until the 9th. Ken Giles came into the close out the game but Giles would give up 3 hits and allow 2 runs in 2/3 IP blowing the save opportunity.

Sean Doolittle would take over with runners on 2nd and 3rd, but would give up the game tying run as the game goes to extra innings.

Doolittle would stay in and pitch the 10th but after recording the first out of the 11th, Doolittle would give up 2 hits and a walk before allowing the winning run as he takes the loss dropping to (1-2).

Justin Verlander pitched 7 IP giving up 4 hits and 3 walks well striking out 5. in the no-decision.

At the Plate, Kyle Lewis and Ty France both went deep, well Kris Bryant also added a RBI double.

At the Plate, Trevor Story hit his team leading 6th HR as he goes 2/4 at the plate. OF Albert Alomora JR got the start in CF and went 2/4 at the plate as well.

                    APRIL UPDATE

As bad as some of the things have been happening in Seattle, things are much worse south in Tacoma.

The Rainer's who just missed going to the AAA playoffs last season are off to a 2-12 start and have lost 9 of their past 10 games.

Julio Rodriguez is about the only hitter doing anything (.306 2 HR 6 RBI, in 49 AB's)

Taylor Trammell (.218, 55 AB's), Cal Raleigh (.125 40 AB's) are off to horrible starts.

SP Edward Cabrera is 0-3 with a 9.75 ERA, George Kirby is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA, Ian McKinney is 0-1 with a 6.92 ERA and Logan Gilbert is 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA.

Only Emerson Hancock 1-1 2.84 ERA appears ready maybe to make a appearance in Seattle.

Wyatt Mills could make a jump to the Bullpen he has a 3.46 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in 13 IP of relief

M'S SWEEP O'S TO GET BACK OVER .500

Seattle opened up May winning just 1 of their first 4 games as they got beat in Game 3 against the Twins and then dropped 2 of 3 vs the Astro's to fall to 12-13 on the season.

The M's though returned home to hose the Baltimore Orioles (11-14) for a 4 game series and broke out the brooms for their 3rd sweep of a series this season as they improve to 16-13 and tie Houston for 3rd place in the AL West now 6 games back of the (22-7) A's.

                      GAME 1 (5-4)

Seattle led 1-0 until the 7th, when the O's put 2 runs on the board, the M's though would tie it in the bottom of the 7th 2-2 then take a 4-2 lead in the 8th but Baltimore would score 2 in the Top of the 9th to tie the game yet again. Seattle however wasn't going to go extra innings as Ryan Braun steps to the plate and hits his 1st HR of the season to give Seattle the win.

Kris Bryant added a solo bomb as well. Evan White went 3/4 on the day raising his avg to .225 and KJ Harrison went 2/4 and drove in 2 runs with a double.

On the Mound Marco Gonzales went 8 IP giving up 2 runs on 6 hits well striking out 2.

Ken Giles got the 9th after giving up the game tying runs, Giles settled down to get the final out of the game before Braun made him the winner in the bottom of the 9th.

                      GAME 2 (WON 6-2)

Evan White followed up his 3/4 performance yesterday with a solo bomb. Kyle Lewis went 2/2 with a double and triple scoring twice and drawing 2 walks. Leonardo Rivas got the start at 2B and went 4/5 with a RBI double

On the Mound, Kendall Graveman improved to 2-2 on the year going 6 IP giving up 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 4.

Giles pitched the 9th in a non-save situation lowering his ERA to 11.00 on the season.

                      GAME 3 (WON 13-1)

Seattle picked up 13 hits on the day and plated 13 runs in the process.

Trevor Story (2 run), Evan White (3 run) and Ty France (Grand Slam and 2 run shot) all went deep today. France drove in a career high 6 runs as he is named POG.

On the Mound, Justus Sheffield went 7 IP giving up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks well striking out 5. S. Dominguez pitched the 8th and 9th striking out 3 lowering his ERA to 4.84.

                      GAME 4 (WON 3-0)

Chris Flexen went 8 IP giving up just 3 hits well striking out 7.

Giles started the 9th recording the first 2 outs before leaving the game with a injury. Sean Doolittle pitched the final out for his 4th save of the season.

Kyle Lewis went deep with a solo HR, well Ty France and Jared Kelenic both added RBI's.

                        [SIZE="4"]BATS ARE SILENT!!!]

Despite adding Kris Bryant in a trade last season and super star SS Trevor Story in the off-season, the Seattle Mariners are struggling at the plate. The M's currently rank last place (30th) in Batting Average at .231 and are 28th in hits (298 just 7 above the 30th place Nats). The only positive is they are 9th in Homeruns (48) resulting in placing 16th in Runs scored (155) which so far has kept them afloat at a .500 record through May 19th.

At (19-19) Seattle is currently 3rd in the AL West, 8.5 games back of the Oakland A's and are 3.5 games back of the Angels, with a .5 game lead over the Astro's (19-20).

However one positive is the M's are currently only 2 games back of the WhiteSox and Twins for the last Wildcard spot.

With 7 of their next 11 games against Texas (8-29), Seattle could very well make some moves in the standings but the bats will need to wake up soon if they have any chance at repeating their run at another spot in the AL Championships.

Here is a look at the last 9 games..

                        KANSAS CITY

Seattle won Game 1 (2-0) as Justin Verlander goes 8 IP giving up 5 hits and striking out 10 in the shutout for his first "W" of the season. Sean Doolittle pitched the 9th for his 5th save.

The M's then won Game 2 (7-5) getting a 3/5 performance from Justin Kelenic at the plate and a grand slam HR from Dom T-Williams.

Seattle then fell in Games 3 (4-1) and Game 4 (2-1) as the Royals tied up the series 2-2.

                        OAKLAND

Seattle had it's chance to make a move on the 1st place A's but instead came up short winning just 1 of 3 games in the series.

Oakland won Game 1 taking the lead in the Top of the 9th, Seattle tied the game to force extra innings, but the A's scored in the 10th of Jordan Hicks as Chris Flexen's 8 IP 4 hits 1 run 10 K performance is wasted in the (3-2 loss)

Seattle bounced back to take Game 2 (2-1), as KJ Harrison hits his 4th HR of the season to give the M's the lead.

Verlander moves to 2-2 on the season as he goes 8 IP giving up 1 run on 2 hits well striking out 8. SeAnthony Dominguez pitched the 9th for this 1st save of the season, striking out the side.

Oakland won Game 3 (4-2) as they game goes to extra innings again, after Seattle tied it (2-2) in the bottom of the 8th

Both Seattle's run's game via a 2 run HR by Bryant. Nick Margevicus took the loss giving up the walkoff 2 run HR to Laureano.

                        SAN DIEGO

The Padres entered the game (13-21) but came away with the 2 game sweep over the M's, winning Game 1 (3-0) as Y. Darvish gives up just 2 hits well striking out 13 in the shutout.

In Game 2, Seattle led 3-1 but the Padres scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead. The M's managed to score 1 in the 9th but came up short in the (5-4) loss.

                        J. Kelenic hit a 3 run HR (his 3rd of the year) in the loss. Jordan Hicks took the loss giving up a 2 run HR to W. Myers in the 7th dropping to 0-2 on the year and raised his ERA to 5.04

                          SANDS MAKE MOVES!!

GM Ryan Sands made a flurry of moves this week as he looks to get his team playing above .500 ball the rest of May and establish a solid lineup moving forward.
                          SAY GOODBYE BRAUN

1B/DH Ryan Braun was brought back after off-season signing Nelson Cruz turned into a Bust. Well Braun's 2nd stint with the M's was a short one as Braun too was sent out on waivers after batting .183 with 1 HR in 63 AB's.

The M's recalled OF Dillon Thomas from AAA Tacoma to take Braun's place on roster.

Seattle also sent IF/OF Dylan Moore to Tacoma and brought back IF/OF Shed Long Jr. Long started the year in Seattle but was sent down after hitting just .091 in 22 AB's. However after hitting .351 in AAA, Long is coming back to replace Moore who saw his only Avg dip to .091 in 33 AB's.

                          DIAZ RETURNS

With CP Ken Giles on the DL and not expected to resign next season, Seattle went back to a familiar face bringing Edwin Diaz back to Seattle in a 3 player player trade.

Seattle send SP Edward Cabrera, RP Jordan Hicks and RP Tanner Scott to New York in exchange the 28 yr old CP.

Diaz was dominating for Seattle in 2018 posting 57 saves, but in 2019 he posted a only 26 saves and a 5.79 ERA for the Mets. In the shorten 2020 season, Diaz saved 6/10 opportunities well posting a 1.75 ERA, but in 2021 despite being fully healthy Diaz lost his CP role after blowing 9/16 saves and posting a 5.05 ERA. So far though it looks like Diaz has turned things around saving 7/8 games so far in 2022 with a 2.70 ERA.

For New York, Cabrera is a former Top-10 prospect in the Marlins farm system who is just 22 yrs old. Hicks has former CP experience with St Louis and a dominating 100 mp fastball and Scott is a another flame thrower from the leftside. All 3 players are also signed for 4 years and equal Diaz's 6.3 million dollar deal that will expire at the end of the season.

                          BRINGING IN SOME VETERAN'S.

With the trade of 3 players on the 40 man roster as well as Braun hitting waivers. Seattle now has 4 spots available on the 40 man roster and Sands used 3 of them to sign some Free Agents.

Taking Braun's DH and 1B duties is former Houston Astro Yuli Gurriel.

Gurriel who hit 31 HR's and drove in 104 runs in 2019, hit .280 with 10 HR and 55 RBI in 2021.

Also signing with Seattle is OF Dexter Fowler.. Fowler a switch hitter who can play all 3 OF spots hit .308 with 12 HR and 25 RBI last year for the Angels and brings 14 years of MLB experience. Fowler will join the big league club with Dom T-Williams being optioned to AAA Tacoma.

Last but not least is former Kansas City Royals prospect Bubba Starling. Another OF who can play all 3 spot in the field has just 91 MLB AB's hitting .204 with 5 HR and 17 RBI. At 28 this could be Starlings last chance. He will actually start the year in AAA Tacoma.

                            M'S CONTINUE .500 TREND!!

Despite multiple moves by GM Ryan Sands, Seattle is unable to make and moves in the standings falling to 10.5 games back of the A's in the AL West finishing the month of May with a (25-25) record.

Last year's trade pickup Kris Bryant and this summer's Big Free Agent signings in Trevor Story and Justin Verlander are playing their part, but down years from Mitch Haniger, Kyle Lewis and SP Kendall Graveman have hurt the M's chances at repeating their way to the AL West Crown.

Bryant and Story are tied for the team lead with Homeruns (10 each) well Bryant has (25) RBI and Story has (23).

Verlander has posted a 2.53 ERA and 1.18 WHIP but failed run support has him sitting with a (4-3) record.

With Verlander assuming the #1 role, Marco Gonzales has thrived in the #2 posting a 2.23 ERA and 1.15 WHIP well posting a 3-1 record. Chris Flexen was on fire in April picking up 3 wins but has dropped his past 2 games and has seen his ERA rise to 2.81 (which is still pretty respectable).

Recent F.A. pickups Yuli Gurriel has played okay so far hitting .265 with 1 HR and 5 RBI in 34 AB's well Dexter Fowler has managed to hit 3 HR's and drive in 5 well hitting .214 in 28 AB's.

Well Jared Kelenic's BA (.262) and OBP (.346) could be better for a leadoff batter his 19 SB's is #1 in the American League.

One of Sands most recent moves was bring back CP Edwin Diaz. So far Diaz has shined picking up 3 saves for the M's giving up just 2 hits over 3 IP.

                            TEXAS 7 GAMES (WENT 3-4)

The M"s had hoped to make some moves in the standings facing a Texas Squad that had just 8 wins but the Rangers rallied and won 4 of 7 games against the M's and are now 12-36 on the season.

                            BOSTON

Seattle won Game 1 of the series (5-4) but fell in Game 2 (5-3) and Game 3 (7-1)

                              M'S ADD ARM'S AND OF'S IN DRAFT!!

The Pittsburg Pirates had the #1 pick and took 20 yr old SP George Anderson with the #1.

The Texas Rangers followed suite taking 22 yr old SP Kirk Stevenson with the #2.

Baltimore picked #3 and tabbed 23 yr old 2B Jerrod Oliva who was considered the most MLB ready batter in the draft.

Tampa Bay took 18 yr old high school SS James Hemphill at #4 well Miami took 18 yr old HS 1B Floyd Freeman at #6.

When it finally made it to pick #20, Seattle selected 22 yr old SP Matt Damon. A lefty out of Canada, who might remind someone of a past Canadian "Big Maple" that Seattle drafted back in 2010.

Seattle followed up the selection of Damon with another International pick grabbing 18 yr old SS Edmundo Caballero from Venezuela with their 2nd Round pick.

In the 3rd Round Seattle added another LHP SP and another International pick grabbing Caballero's teammate, 20 yr old Greg Ramirez. Ramirez relies heavily on a 90+ 4 seam and 2 seam Fastball as well as a nasty slider and could very well transition into bullpen role

In the 4th Round Seattle grabbed Kentucky born Rick Florival. The 22 yr old Switch hitting OF who played his college ball at Florida. Florival was considered to be a potential 2nd round pick out of college with a solid bat that could play very quickly at the MLB level (projected 2023).

In the the 5th Round, the M's grabbed 18 yr old RHP Bill Redmond to fill some depth and in the 5th round went back to the International side grabbing South Korea OF Won-Yong Kou.

Kou who is 21, doesn't have a MLB bat quite yet but does probably have the fastest speed of any Mariner already in uniform.
