    SANDS CONTINUES TO MAKE MOVES!!

New GM Ryan Sands continues to make moves that not only will impact the current roster but also adds a young arm for the future.

Sands took a call from the Miami Marlins who were looking to move on from former All-Star and Gold Glove OF Corey Dickerson and his 8.8 million dollar salary.

Dickerson has been a pretty major disappointment for the Marlins after signing a 2 year 17.5 million dollar deal in 2020.

In 2020 Dickerson hit just .258 with a career low 7 HR and 17 RBI in 194 AB's. He followed it up hitting just .198 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in his first 111 AB's this season.

Dickerson's best season came back in 2014 when he hit .312 with 24 HR and 76 RBI for the Colorado Rockies. In 2016 Colorado traded Dickerson to Tampa Bay where he avg 25 HR's and 66 RBI's over 2 seasons before being dealt yet again to Pittsburgh in 2018, where he hit .300 with 13 HR and 55 RBI.

    Sands on Dickerson
"Corey is a career .281 hitter who has 3 seasons of 24 HR or more and we fill like it's worth taking a flyer on him despite the salary addition."
To take on the salary, Sands worked his magic and got the Marlins to include 21 yr old SP Edward Cabrera. Ranked the #4 prospect in Miami's farm system, Cabrera has huge upside (A potential) but is currently 1-3 in 5 starts this season pitching 19 IP well posting a 7.11 ERA

For Dickerson, the power slugging OF is slated to take over LF fulltime with Jose Marmolejos expected to go to the bench as Taylor Trammell is headed back to AAA.

Going back to the Marlins in the deal is a trio of RP's as Seattle sends Drew Steckenrider, Brandon Brennan and Matt Magill.

The M's also made a couple roster moves sending both backup Catcher Luis Torrens and RP Nick Margevicius to AAA well promoting RP Erik Swanson to the big leagues.

          RETURN OF THE KING!!!

Reports are with the Mariners currently struggling to find a 5th starter, GM Ryan Sands has reached out to a familiar player of the Mariners past success.

"King" Felix Hernandez last pitched in 2019 for the Mariners posting a 1-8 record. Hernandez then left and attempted to make the Atlanta Braves rotation in 2020 before opting out due to Covid. Then in 2021 Hernandez signed a minor league deal looking to make a comeback with the Baltimore Orioles but a elbow injury left Hernandez unable to make the opening day roster allowing Hernandez to opt out of his contract and once again become a Free Agent.

Rumors are Hernandez who is no longer the power thrower of his past has been working out with another former Mariner in Jamie Moyer as he looks to re-establish a late career as a breaking ball pitcher. Moyer found success pitching into his 40's and was a 2-time 20 game winner with the Mariners. Could "King" Felix do the same?

Hernandez will report to AAA Tacoma and pitch this week in a warmup game and is expected to possibly join the Mariner rotation by the end of May.

                  HERNANDEZ LOOKS SHARP!!

The King is back!!! Well maybe... "King" Felix made his 2021 debut as the Tacoma Rainer's took on the Salt Lake Bee's.

Hernandez using most his curveball and changeup was in control all game pitching 7 IP of hitless ball well striking out 11 batters including several former big leaguers like Kurt Suzuki and John Jay.

Suzuki would end up breaking up the no-no and the Bee's would later score 2 runs of Hernandez in the 8th as the Bee's tie the game 2-2 and later score again in the 9th to win the game as Hernandez factored into the no-decision.

The "King" was expected to make at least 2 more starts in Tacoma before joining the Mariners in Seattle in June, but a injury to Mariners "Ace" Marco Gonzales, will now speed up the timeline.

Hernandez is scheduled to pitch Game 1 of the upcoming series with Texas at the end of the month

                  GM Ryan Sands
"It was great to see Felix have success his first game back. I know fan's are excited to see him back and I expect we will have a sell-out crowd against the Rangers in Game 1. Hopefully Marco will be back in 10-15 days and when the time comes, it is my understanding that we could push to a 6 man rotation as we look to get the bullpen some potential rest."

                      THE STOVE IS HEATING UP!!

                      SEATTLE

The Seattle Mariners and new GM Ryan Sands have been busy the first 2 months of the season and it doesn't look like they are slowing down any time soon as they look to build a roster that can compete in 2021.

Sands pulled off Trade #1 back in April acquiring veteran catcher Wellington Castillo dealing IF's Sam Haggerty and Jordan Cowan with the Nationals

Sands then dealt a trio of arm's in Drew Steckenrider, Brandon Brennan and Matt McGill to the Miami Marlins for OF Corey Dickerson's bloated 8 million dollar contract and SP Edward Cabrera.

With his LHP bullpen options struggling, Sands pulled off Trade #3 sending SP Sam Delaphane and RP Jake Haberer and a PTBNL to the Baltimore Orioles for LHP Tanner Scott.

                      Sands
"I know Tanner's 2021 #'s don't look great, but we still believe in his abilities to regain what he accomplished in 2020. He has a very live arm with both a 4 seam and 2 seam fastball that reaches 95-97 and a solid slider. We believe he could even be a late inning option potentially as teams are already contacting us about the availability of CP Ken Giles"

                      FORMER MARINER ON THE MOVE

Colorado is hoping the Mile High air will help former Mariner Catcher Mike Zunino find his power stroke as the Rockies send SP Peter Lambert to the Rays.

JAYS LOOKING TO ADD SOME POP!!

Toronto has sent SP Zach Logue to the Marlins as Miami continues to dump payroll send former 1B Jesus Aguilar North of the Border.

                      THE OTHER WILL SMITH

Atlanta looking to fill a need a 3B sent CP Will Smith and IF Austin Riley to the Whitesox for 3B Yoan Moncada. Moncada is hitting .331 on the season. Smith last saved 34 games for the Giants in 2019, but lost the job to Luke Jackson this season as Jackson has posted 10 saves for the Braves. Smith (8 saves) will join Liam Hendricks (14 saves) giving the Sox's 2 solid options in the 9th.

Thanks. I was hoping my rotation could hold together long enough that I could just bring up Logan Gilbert or George Kirby, but with Dunn and Sheffield struggling, Gonzales getting hurt, I need a veteran stop gap..

I pitched the AAA start with him, and the curveball is nasty so I really hope he can do well with another chance. Moyer was still a great arm for the rotation all the way into his 40's so I am hoping Felix can find success as a off-speed guy after being a power pitcher his entire career.
