It's the very first edition and despite some of the bugs, I am coaching the Arizona Cardinals, the first NFL franchise coached by Don Coryell, and using the west coast offensive play book but only with the single back normal slot and single back strong slot formations. I do have a few plays, though, that have the single back with 2 TE formation. As I stated, it was before the 2005 draft & 2006 season. In the first round I was able to draft running back Joseph Addai because I wanted a running back that could also catch passes. The Cards have Shipp and J.J. Arrington for running backs and I thought that I should draft one. In real life, of course, Arizona drafted quarterback Matt Leinart with their first pick. I'll take Warner over him any day of the week, although Warner has completed, I think, 48% of the passes after the first two preseason games.

I am expecting the games to get tougher once I get to the regular season. Hopefully, that will be the case as I defeated the then defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-27 with a late TD pass from Warner to Fitzgerald. It was also a win over the New England Patriots 37-34 on a late TD pass. I've been devoting the on-field practice time mostly to the 1st string with a few reps going to the 2nd string, which may have played a part in the games.

There is no thread for this although I could start one if there would be enough interest in it since it begins with the 2005-06 off season.

Also, I've decided to change my avatar to that of whichever hoops team I am coaching. Who knows, it might be from a power conference next season if this season continues like it has been.

Just keep your mouth shut about the officials, avoid any WAC suspensions, and you should be set for the Power conference promotion.

I was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals of the Don Coryell era. They broke my heart every year in the playoffs, though. Good luck with this dynasty!

Well, I finally got over the hump and made it to the sweet 16 with Valparaiso (on my 4th try! ). Now, the Crusaders go up against the top-seed Connecticut Huskies, with a 96 OVR rating. The scary thing is that the Huskies have only one starting senior, so they could be loaded for next year as well. (Maybe Jim Calhoun wll retire and ......)

        Don,

Can you please add Maryland to the list of teams being tracked in your dynasty? If possible, I would like to continue to follow Tennessee-Martin and Valparaiso as well.

In my dynasty, Wisconsin was the top job available after season 6, but this job went to Utah State coach Stew Morrill. Maryland was the next team available, which was offered to my coach after Gary Williams retired. Also offered to my coach were (in order) :
        • Georgetown (fired John Thompson III moved to La Tech)
        • South Florida
        • Wake Forest
        • Penn State
        • Saint Louis (Major)
        • Air Force (Major)
        • St. Bonaventure (Major)
Of these, Wake Forest would have been my second choice, based on conference and prospectus.

In all, season six was a good year as seven goals were earned :
        • Top 20 recruiting class (from past season)
        • Top recruit, 5 star recruit, 5 star recruit in season (#1 PG from Toronto, CN)
        • HS All-American (#3 recruit -> SF from Santa Ana, CA)
        • Sweet 16 appearance
        • Power Conference job
It's kinda tough not being able to coach the top recruit, though. Truth be told, he may be overrated, which is why he ended up in Valpo. UNC-Greensboro coach Mike Dement is taking over at Valparaiso for season seven. In all, 49 jobs changed hands in the coaching carousel this year, which I think is a personal record for my dynasties.

Season six was tougher in the Horizon league as some teams had senior-heavy teams with good team unity. In all, Valpo had a couple of good winning streaks:
        • 27 game Horizon league winning streak ended. This streak was book-ended on both sides by losses at Wisconsin-Green Bay (2/26/11 & 1/5/13)
        • 52 game home winning streak at Valpo left in tact. This included 12 victories in Horizon conference tournament games. Last home loss was to Illinois-Chicago on 2/11/10, first year at Valpo.
As mentioned earlier, keep coach Knight in line and there should be a power conference job in the offing. Hope the move goes smooth so that your dynasty starts up soon!

Congrats on the promotion to the ACC. I'll certainly make a note to follow the Terps and include them on my next installment along with Valpo and UTM. Congrats also on the new goals that you have accomplished as well.

Most of the big, heavier stuff has been moved to the new apartment and I'm still looking at finishing up by the end of this week. The distance from one apartment to the other is about a football field in length. I actually took the legs off of my dining room table and rolled the top up the street. Sorry, no one was taping it so it's not on youtube. Only a goof ball like me would do that. I almost ran over my own foot twice.

Coach Coryell is still the only head coach of the Cardinals to coach them to multiple playoffs. He is also the only coach that I know of with 100+ wins in both NCAA and NFL.
