Yale Knocks Off Streaking Princeton on the Road

        12/15/08 vs. Yale (10-8)

        Final: 64-68

Princeton's hot win streak was stopped at two after they crushed both Columbia and Penn in back-to-back games. Yale stormed out to an early lead in this one, but Princeton came storming back to take a slim halftime lead with the score at 32-30 in Princeton's favor. The game would remain fairly even in the second half until Yale took a late five point lead with a little over two minutes remaining. Princeton would miss a three pointer that would have given them the lead with 30 seconds remaining and was forced to foul, where Yale sank their free throws and iced the ballgame. "We played poorly," commented a visibly frustrated Coach Frizzell. "I think we got a little overconfident after we easily knocked off Coumbia and Yale and it cost us thie ballgame as we weere just sloppy out there. We shot horribly and just played terrible." Princeton did shoot badly, as the Tigers shot a mere 36% compared to Yale's 46%. Princeton was great from outside, where they knocked down 7/13, but was horrible inside the ark. "We needed to finish off our layups," commented Coach Frizzell. "We were always expecting the referees to bail us out with a foul, but they didn't always, so we have to still try to get the shot to go down, regardless of whether a foul is called or not. If you make the shot and get the foul, then you get a three point opportunity, which is even better than just getting to the foul line or simply making a bucket. I like that we were trying to draw the contact when we got the ball inside, but we have to finish. It's that simple."

        Yale Key Players
        E. Plato - 26 points, 6 rebounds
        C. Holmes - 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists
        T. Pinick - 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists

        Princeton Key Players
        K. Koncz - 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals
        Z. Woolridge - 13 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals
        L. Gunn - 15 points, 2 rebounds, 3/4 3pt. FG

Princeton now stands at 11-10 (4-2). Princeton will take on Brown (8-13) tomorrow night.

Princeton Recovers From Loss to Decimate Brown

          12/16/08 vs. Brown (8-13)

          Final: 66-47

Princeton bounced back from the loss to Yale in a big way tonight as they easily knocked off Brown 66-47 due to great defense and a stuttering Brown offense. Fueled by a huge 45-24 lead at halftime, Princeton easily cruised in the second half to the win. Brown only shot 39% on the year and that's exactly what they shot tonight, as well. Brown also only hit 3/17 from downtown and 6/17 from the foul line. While Coach Frizzell was happy with the win, he was not particularly impressed. "We played good, but not great," he explained. "We played good enough to win, and win by a good margin, but I think that was due more to Brown's inability to shoot and their lack of success at the foul line. We left some of their shooters wide open, yet they were only able to nail 3/17 from downtown. While I am happy to win, I am not impressed with our performance." Zach Woolridge was a major force in the game for Princeton as he picked up a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as well. Kyle Koncz also scored 11 while getting 8 rebounds and Noah Savage added 17 points.

          Brown Key Players
          M. MacDonald - 9 points
          A. Jimanez - 13 points, 6 rebounds

          Princeton Key Players
          K. Koncz - 11 points, 8 rebounds
          N. Savage - 17 points
          Z. Woolridge - 10 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton improves to 12-10 (5-2). They will face off against the Harcard Crimson (1-23) on Friday, November 22nd.

Princeton Blows Past Harvard to Earn 13th Win of the Season

                  2/22/08 @ Harvard (1-23)

                  Final: 72-58

Pretty much everybody picked Princeton in this one. Harvard was 1-23 and 0-8 in Ivy League play whereas Princeton was 12-10 and 5-2 in conference. As expected, Princeton led at the half by a score of 35-29 and went on to outscore Harvard by eight points in the second half to score a 14 point win giving the Princeton Tigers their 13th win of the season. The main key to the game was turnovers, where Princeton only turned the ball over six times to Harvard's 13. "We took good care of the ball and played a good ball game," Coach Frizzell commented. "We didn't look past Harvard even though they were 1-23, because we know these type of games can turn out to be trap games. We played well and happily earned the victory." Lincoln Gunn came off the bench to once again step it up to another level as he scored 20 points in the victory. "Lincoln has been playing great," commented Coach Frizzell. "If he can develop some consistency in his game, he can be quite a force in future years, as he is only a sophomore."

                  Princeton Key Players
                  M. Schoeder - 9 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals
                  K. Koncz - 14 points, 5 rebounds
                  L. Gunn - 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5/9 3pt. FG

                  Harvard Key Players
                  T. Carey - 10 points, 5 rebounds
                  E. Harris - 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals

Princeton improves to 13-10 (6-2) after the win. They will face off against Dartmouth (11-11) tomorrow.

Princeton Wins Huge Road Game at Dartmouth With Tough Defense

                    2/23/08 @ Dartmouth (11-11)

                    Final: 60-44

From the opening tip-off, Princeton's defense was intensely stubborn. Princeton took an early lead because of the great defense, but their offense would stutter as they would only hold a slim three point edge at halftime with the score at 26-23. In the second half, it was more of the same, as Princeton continued to play phenomenal defense as the Tigers pulled away from the Big Green for the huge 16 point win. Princeton's defense held Dartmouth to only 37% shooting, 23% from three point range, and also forced 17 turnovers. "We once again played great defense," commented Coach Frizzell. "I think that has been the key to our late winning streak is that we have been sound on the defensive end, which has let us win more ballgames, since our offense is always pretty good. If we continue to do this, we will be in very good position to win the Ivy League." The only Princeton player to go into double figures was Michael Strittmatter, who scored 16 points in the game. Princeton's star shooting guard, Kyle Koncz, was defended well in the game as he only scored seven points off of just 2/11 shooting and 0/3 from downtown. "They defended me really well," Koncz explained. "I was just out of sync as well. I was left wide open for a couple of threes which I missed. Usually I would make those, but tonight I was just off, I guess."

                    Princeton Key Players
                    M. Strittmatter - 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
                    Z. Woolridge - 9 points, 12 rebounds
                    L. Gunn - 9 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals

                    Dartmouth Key Players
                    D. Mosley - 10 points
                    M. Chisick - 10 points, 10 rebounds

Princeton improves to 14-10 (7-2). They will face Brown (8-16) next Friday, February 29th, in their next game.

                            Koncz Leads Princeton Past Brown

                            2/29/08 @ Brown (8-16)

                            Final: 60-54

Fueled by Kyle Koncz's 31 points and a lights-out first half performance, the Princeton Tigers avoided a meltdown in the closing minutes to grab their 15th win of the year. Princeton held a comfortable 35-23 lead at halftime, with Koncz already having 20 points in the first half alone. Brown started double-teaming Koncz in the second half, which would slow his production down a bit as he only scored 11 second half points. Brown would actually take a 51-50 lead with a little over four minutes remaining as the Brown faithful were on their feet rooting for their home team. However, a few clutch shots by Kyle Koncz gave Princeton the lead again and a few clutch foul shots by Michael Strittmatter sealed the ballgame for the Princeton Tigers. "We played very well in the first half," Coach Frizzell commented. "However, we played pretty poorly in the second half and we just about lost the game because of it. Luckily Kyle Koncz was on fire for us out there. I believe he scored 31 points. That's more than half of our total points!" Kyle Koncz hit 10/11 from the field, 5/6 from three point range, and 6/8 from the foul line in the 31 point offensive explosion.

                            Princeton Key Players
                            K. Koncz - 31 points, 6 rebounds, 10/11 FG, 5/6 3 pt. FG
                            Z. Woolridge - 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists

                            M. MacDonald - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists

                            Princeton improves to 15-10 (8-2).

I should also note that the second half of the Brown game was played on All-American, which I will use from now on. I felt it was getting a bit too easy on All-Conference, so hopefully this should help!
