(2) Gonzaga (22-11) vs. (1) San Francisco (30-4)
Jenny Craig Pavilion
San Diego, CA
March 10th, 2019
The San Francisco Dons (30-4) won their third consecutive West Coast Conference Tournament Championship this evening as the Dons outlasted the Gonzaga Bulldogs (22-11) 78-67 to win against Coach Few's squad.
Gonzaga led early on, but San Francisco was clearly in control as the game neared halftime. At the half, the Dons led 42-28.
San Francisco extended the lead to as many as 24 points in the second half, effectively putting the game away. Gonzaga made a run in the waning minutes of the game to cut the lead to 11 at the final buzzer, but make no mistake, this game wasn't very close.
Owen Kole led the Dons with 20 point, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Matt Owen also had a nice game as he contributed 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals to the winning effort.
"We really played well out there today," beamed Coach Frizzell. "Some people thought we may get upset in the WCC Tournament by a desperate team trying to make the Big Dance, but I had confidence in this team and we once again have taken the conference crown."

vs.
(15) Prairie View A&M (19-10) vs. (2) San Francisco (31-4)
Greensboro Coliseum
Greensboro, NC
March 21st, 2019
Coach Frizzell returned to his former hometown of Greensboro, NC this afternoon as he coached his San Francisco Francisco Dons (31-4) to their 31st victory of the season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against the Prairie View A&M Panthers (19-10).
However, it wasn't your typical #2/#15 matchup. The Panthers put up an effective fight against the Dons as they trailed by only a single point at halftime. The Dons wouldn't do much better in the second half as San Francisco only led by six points with four minutes remaining. In the end, San Francisco won 79-69, but it wasn't the blowout everyone expected, especially after the Dons blew out all three opponents they faced in the WCC Tournament.
"We didn't play well at all today," said Coach Frizzell. "We actually shot really well from three, but we couldn't shoot twos today. Our main guy Owen Kole struggled a lot which obviously didn't help us out. All in all, it was not a good day for us, but it's a win and we'll survive and advance to the second round. We're not looking for style points; we're just looking to win and that's what we accomplished this afternoon."
Owen Kole ended with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks, but he struggled mightily from the field where he shot a measly 2-for-11. However, he made up for it somewhat by going 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Oliver Hudson was a bright spot for the Dons as he scored 21 points and grabbed 4 boards. Hudson shot 5-for-10 from three-point range, which is a new career-high for threes made in a single game for him.
#7 UCLA defeated #10 Oklahoma 83-80 in the earlier game here in Greensboro, which means that the Dons will face off against the Bruins on Saturday afternoon. The two teams have faced off against one another once this year with UCLA pulling out a 79-72 victory in Los Angeles.

vs.
(7) UCLA (23-11) vs. (2) San Francisco (32-4)
Greensboro Coliseum
Greensboro, NC
March 23rd, 2019
The San Francisco Dons (32-4) earned a birth to their second straight Sweet Sixteen appearance this afternoon as they defeated the UCLA Bruins (23-11) 77-67. The Dons were led by Owen Kole's 24-point explosive offensive performance.
The Dons lost to UCLA 79-72 in their prior meeting earlier this year during the non-conference portion of San Francisco's schedule, but San Francisco was clearly the better team today. The Dons led for the first 30 minutes of the game before UCLA went on a run to take a 54-52 lead midway through the second half. However, after a timeout the Dons responded in a big way as they went on an 11-0 run during the next few minutes to build a 63-54 lead going into the last five minutes of regulation. From there, the Dons coasted to the victory as Owen Kole, who went 10-for-10 from the free throw line, hit late free throws to ensure a USF victory.
Overall, the Dons were deadly from the stripe. San Francisco as a team shot 25-for-26 from the free throw line, which equates to 96%. UCLA wasn't too shabby either as they drained 16 of their 18 free throw attempts.
The Dons also held an advantage in turnovers. They forced 18 UCLA turnovers while only committing 12 turnovers themselves, resulting in a +6 turnover differential. That, combined with the free throw disparity, ultimately resulted in the Dons winning this game and advancing to the West Regional Semifinals against #6-seeded Duke, who defeated Clemson 85-73 in the second round.
The Dons faced Duke last year in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and laid waste to them 71-48. Duke most likely has revenge on their minds, so it will be interesting to see how things go this time around.

vs.
(6) Duke (21-11) vs. (2) San Francisco (33-4)
HP Pavilion
San Jose, CA
March 28th, 2019
The San Francisco Dons (33-4) earned their second straight trip to the Elite Eight this evening as they defeated the Duke Blue Devils (21-11) 80-52. However, the game was much closer than the score indicates.
The Dons fell behind 19-9 early on as Duke looked superb. However, Owen Kole then began to assert himself both offensively and defensively for the Dons. His dominance would culminate in a 37-35 halftime lead for the Dons as Kole had 22 points by halftime, more than the rest of his team combined.
The Dons opened the second half on a 10-2 run to open up a 47-37 lead. From there until the five minute mark, the lead radiated from roughly five to 10 points. However, Duke crumbled in the final minutes of the ball game as they allowed 17 unanswered points in the closing minutes, resulting in a deceiving box score.
In all, the Dons outscored the Blue Devils 43-17 in the second half.
Owen Kole scored 12 more points in the second half as he ended with a career-high 34 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. Matt Owen also had a fine game for the Dons as he shot 6-for-7 from the field to end with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
"We played spectacular basketball tonight," beamed Coach Frizzell after the game. "To have a chance at a second straight Final Four appearance would be huge for this team and that's just what we've got. We knew that Duke would be a tough task and they certainly were, but we managed to wear them down in the second half.
"Duke didn't match up well with us in the frontcourt, so we wanted to get Kole the ball down low and let him go to work. Duke simply didn't have anyone that could match up with him, so he just went to work and dominated."
#1 Michigan defeated #12 Washington in the other regional semifinal 97-78. The Wolverines have beaten their first three tournament opponents by scores of 110-58, 90-60, and 97-78, or by an average of 37 points per game. The Wolverines have won 14 straight games since losing against Penn State in Happy Valley on February 12th.
"[Michigan is] a very good team," said Coach Frizzell. "Beilein has really turned around that program in Ann Arbor since he got there 12 years ago. They will be a tough test for us, but we'll be ready."
