#4 San Francisco (13-2) vs.UCLA (9-2)
Pauley Pavilion
Los Angeles, CA
December 21st, 2018
The San Francisco Dons lost another game to a Pac-10 opponent, their second in a row, after falling to the UCLA Bruins by a score of 79-72. The Dons got off to a slow start, but made a comeback to get within five points at halftime.
The Dons took a 55-54 lead midway through the second half for a brief period of time, but that was all the time that they would lead in this one as UCLA took control from there on out on their way to a 79-72 victory to move to 9-2 on the season.
The Bruins were led by a spectacular performance by Stephen McCully, who scored a game-high 29 points and shot 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Overall, the Bruins shot 26-for-38 from he charity stripe as San Francisco committed 24 personal fouls, much like they did against California earlier this week.
"When you send the other team to the line 38 times, I don't think there's much question as to who is going to win the game," stated Coach Frizzell. "We can't allow that to happen. I must give UCLA credit; they were aggressive and were looking to get fouled, but we have to play smarter than that."
Owen Kole and Jaime Barton showed up in a huge way for the Dons as Kole totaled 20 points and 15 rebounds while Barton added 18 points and 3 steals, but other than those two, no other Dons scored more than 9 points or grabbed more than 6 rebounds.
The Dons play a cupcake North Florida team next week before taking on the UCF Knights on January 5th, the Dons' final non-conference game of the season before opening up WCC play against the Portland Pilots on January 12th.

vs.
North Florida (7-7) vs. #12 San Francisco (14-2)
War Memorial Gymnasium
San Francisco, CA
December 29th, 2018
The doctor ordered a blowout for the ailing San Francisco Dons, who fell to #12 in the rankings after losing to California and #17 UCLA last week on the road, and that's just what the North Florida Ospreys delivered. The Ospreys were completely overmatched at every position and were completely dismantled by the Dons as the Dons emerged with an 82-39 victory in their final game of 2018.
Coach Frizzell had an opportunity to rest his starters in the second half and that's just what he did as only one starter played more than 18 minutes in this game.
Jaime Barton, Mickey Eitutavicius, Bud Thomas, and Lawrence Doumbouya took advantage of their opportunities for extended periods of playing time as each one of them scored at least 9 points. In fact, every single player on the San Francisco active roster scored at least 2 points and got at least 10 minutes of playing time.
The Dons have a week off before traveling to Orlando, FL to take on the UCF Knights on January 5th in what will be the Dons' final non-conference game of the regular season.

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Well being how my current teams were unable to beat you and some of my past teams couldn't beat you, I am happy to see that UCLA was able to pull off a win.
Looks like Bud Thomas has cooled off of late from beyond the arc.
Was curious, seems like Kole's rebounding #'s are down. Is his draft status still staying strong at Top pick?Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Yeah, in his first couple games I thought he was going to be a dominant three-point shooter and may earn a starting spot, but since he's cooled off.
I think the reason for Kole's lower rebounding numbers is a combination of him being surrounded with better rebounders and my new sliders. Or maybe he's just slumping; I'm not sure.Comment

My bad, well congrats it's hard enough doing a dynasty for longer than 3 months but for 2 years... that's crazy. Butler as your icon?Comment

Yep, I'm jumping on the Butler bandwagon now that WVU lost to Duke!
Thanks.Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Well I guess that's acceptable because your a WVU fan and you want the team that beat WVU to lose, i'm a MSU fan though so i'm not liking Butler right now haha. Anyways GREAT job I can't wait until your next gameComment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
I'm not much of a fan of Duke, anyways, plus I'd love to see a mid-major win it all.Comment

Great game. Great run for Butler, I honestly did not think they would even be able to keep it close. They showed the replay of that half court shot at the end of the game from 124234 different angles and I kept waiting for it to go in every time!"Yo Soy Fiesta."

Yes, it was a great game, but it would have been even better if that shot would have went in! Oh well.Comment

#12 San Francisco (14-3) vs. Central Florida (5-4)
UCF Arena
Orlando, FL
January 5th, 2019
The 12th-ranked San Francisco Dons closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule in disappointing fashion this evening as they lost by a basket in overtime to the Central Florida Knights. The Dons led for the majority of the game and led by as many as 15 points midway through the second half, but it all came crashing down in the closing minutes as the Knights came back to force overtime.
The Dons jumped out to a 68-64 lead early in the extra period, but the Knights came storming back to take the lead in the last two minutes. After a missed UCF shot, the Dons got the ball back down 75-73 with 18 seconds left and a chance to tie or win the game. Oliver Hudson got a wide open trey from the corner on an assist from Bernard Mendoza in the low post, but his shot clanked off the right side of the iron and the Dons fell by two.
The Knights are led by the tallest frontcourt in the nation. Jon Clifford starts at power forward and stands at a dominating 7'0" tall and 291 lbs. Center Freddy Cassler, who came into the game averaging nearly 24 points per game, is the tallest player in all of college basketball at 7'4" and weighs in at 241 lbs.
The Dons managed to hold those two players to only 5 points on 2-15 shooting, but this allowed other UCF players to get into the act on offense. Shooting guard Juan Archibald led the way with 24 points. The Knights' starters at the PG, SG, and SF spots combined for 53 of the Dons' 75 points and shot 18-for-39 from the floor.
Freddy Cassler was a dominant force for the UCF defense, however, as he totaled 4 blocks and kept USF from bringing the ball inside much. He also held Owen Kole to only 3-for-11 shooting and forced him into foul trouble, which limited his minutes.
"We accomplished what we wanted to do," explained Coach Frizzell. "We contained one of the most dominant scorers in the nation and held him to only 5 points, though we did allow him to grab 12 rebounds overall and several key offensive boards which ultimately cost us the ball game. We simply couldn't lock down on the outside and allowed the Knights to get too many open looks. This loss stings, but at least it's not in the conference portion of our schedule and it should serve as a lesson to our kids."
The Dons finish up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a lofty 14-3 record. However, after a 13-0 start, the Dons are reeling having lost three of their last four games. It is paramount that the Dons get these issues resolved as soon as possible as conference play is upon us. San Francisco hosts a solid Portland squad to open up WCC play on January 12th.
