      vs.
Loyola Marymount (8-15) vs. #9 San Francisco (23-4)
      War Memorial Gymnasium
      San Francisco, CA
      February 16th, 2019

The San Francisco Dons (23-4, 9-1 WCC) started off slow, but ended with a huge bang. The Dons only led the Loyola Marymount Lions (8-15, 2-7 WCC) 35-30 at halftime, but the contest wouldn't even be close in the second half as the Dons would outscore Loyola Marymount 51-27 in the final period to run away with an easy 29-point victory, giving Coach Frizzell a chance to empty the bench in the final 10 minutes.

Owen Kole was the star of the show tonight. The sophomore seven-footer scored 23 points in only 22 minutes of action. Even more impressively, he shot 10-for-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

"I don't think I've ever played a game of basketball in my life where I got to see the ball go through the net on every single shot I took," Owen Kole commented to reporters after the game. "I wouldn't mind to have a few more of these games, to be honest; they're pretty fun!"

Oliver Hudson scored 11 points for the Dons. Stanford Boyce had the best game of his career to date, as he scored a career-high 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Jaime Barton also came off the bench to score 10 points.

The Dons now have four games remaining in West Coast Conference play and currently have a two-game lead on second-place Gonzaga. The Dons play Pepperdine on Monday on Senior Night followed by Saint Mary's on Friday, the 23rd. Then the Dons take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs on March 2nd followed by San Diego to close out the season. Three of the Dons' next four opponents are over .500, with the lone exception being San Diego, who is currently 9-13.

          vs.
          Pepperdine (15-13) vs. #9 San Francisco (24-4)
          War Memorial Gymnasium
          San Francisco, CA
          February 18th, 2019

The Pepperdine Waves (15-13, 5-6 WCC) came into the season picked to finish second in the WCC behind San Francisco (24-4, 10-1 WCC), but they have disappointed most of the season and now have a sub-.500 conference record thanks for a 14-point road loss to Coach Frizzell's San Francisco Dons squad on San Francisco's Senior Night.

The Dons led this game from start to finish. USF never really built up a big lead as they sustained a 5 to 15 point lead for the majority of the ball game, but Pepperdine never jumped out on top, either. The Dons played solid defense and played just well enough offensively to get the win.

San Francisco shot awful from three-point range, just hitting 7 of 35 attempts from downtown, including a 1-for-9 performance by sharpshooter Jason Redick. However, Pepperdine was equally as underwhelming as the Waves shot only 2-for-14 from beyond the arc.

"We shot horrible today," explained Coach Frizzell. "We had our good shooters shooting open shots. I can't really blame our guys for throwing them up there. We took what the defense gave us and we just couldn't knock our shots down. Fortunately, we played good enough defense to still come away with a solid victory."

Owen Kole led the Dons in scoring and rebounding as he totaled 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals. He only shot 5-for-14 from the field, but managed to hit 7 of 10 attempts from the charity stripe, which was key.

The only senior on this San Francisco team is backup point guard Jaime Barton. Barton had an average night, tallying 4 points, a rebound, and a steal on 2-for-6 shooting. He also went 0-for-1 from beyond the arc.

"I didn't play my greatest game," commented Barton, "but we won and that's the most important thing. I didn't want my final game played at War Memorial Gymnasium to be a loss and we made sure that didn't happen."

The Dons will hit the road to take on the Saint Mary's Gaels this Saturday before closing out the regular season at Gonzaga and San Diego.

By the way, guys, I forgot to make a note about it at the time, but I've now surpassed 300 career wins. I currently own a career record of 308-89 following the victory over Pepperdine.

            Next stop: 400 wins!!!

Hopefully, I'll have a Title by then to go along with it!

Man bud, WTH is going on with your three point shooting? Something has to be different from the beginning of the season to the end, I would think your shooters would have progressed a bit, but man it seems like everybody is struggling right now. Hopefully they can get it worked out in the WCC tourney and you don't head into the dance shooting like this. Redick looks like he's playing hung over, does the kid have an addiction problem you don't know about?

Thanks. It will be difficult, but I am the superior team in all my matchups for the rest of the regular season and conference tournament, so I hope to win them all. The Tournament will be another story.

I don't know. Sometimes, I can go out there and shoot lights-out. Other times, I get open three after open three and they all clank off the rim. Also, the fact that Matt Owen, statistically our best three-point shooter last year, has shot like crap this year (around 30% from three down from a shade over 40% last year), isn't helping out, either.

I can't figure Redick out. One night he'll be dominating out there and hit seven threes. Then the next game he can go 1-for-9. It's not like the shot selection has been bad, but the shots just aren't falling.

Of course, taking 35 three-pointers in a single game probably is not a wise idea, especially when you are shooting like we did last night,

                    #9 San Francisco (25-4) vs. Saint Mary's (15-12)
                    McKeon Pavilion
                    Moraga, CA
                    February 23rd, 2019

The San Francisco Dons (25-4, 11-1 WCC) shot just 7-for-35 from three-point range against Pepperdine on Monday, but that was far from the case today as the Dons shot 18-for-28 from downtown on their way to a 93-49 blowout victory over the Saint Mary's Gaels (15-12, 6-6 WCC).

The Dons leveled the Gaels from the start with Oliver Hudson draining three three-pointers in the Dons' first three possessions to give San Francisco a quick 9-0 lead early on. Hudson would end with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Coach Frizzell got to rest the starts as much as he desired in this one and, as a result, Owen Kole, who totaled 15 points and 7 boards, was the leading minute-getter for the Dons at 22 minutes. All four other USF starters played 20 minutes or less.

In addition to Kole and Hudson's strong performances, Matt Owen and Jason Redick shined as well. Owen has been struggling getting assists lately, but he had no problem today as he recorded 6 assists in addition to 11 points and 6 steals. He also shot 3-for-3 from three-point range, which is huge because he came into the game only shooting 33% from three-point range, down from 40% a year ago. Jason Redick also had a nice game, scoring 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, which is a far cry from his 3-point, 1-for-9 debacle against Pepperdine.

"I think this may have been our best performance of the season," stated Coach Frizzell after the game. "We did everything right. When we play like this, we can beat anyone, and I mean anyone, in the country, whether it be Maryland, Pittsburgh, or Georgia Tech."

The Dons are now off for a week before returning to action against the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who have an 8-3 conference record and are the WCC's second-place team. If the Dons beat Gonzaga, they will clinch the WCC Regular Season Title and the #1 seed in the WCC Tournament played in San Diego in early March.

Congrats on the Top-10 ranking. 25+ wins. Looks like maybe Coach Frizzell is taking the Don's to the promise land before he leaves for bigger and better opportunities ahead.

I don't know about that, but the team definitely has been playing very well lately.
