You get in the top 25, and then lose some rough games. Tough luck lol

How many games left in the season? 20 wins in the Big East should get you in the tournament.

I don't think I'll be seeing the top 25 again this season, unfortunately.

Yes, it should, but getting to 20 wins might be an issue. These last few games have not been kind to me and are not helping my NCAA Tournament hopes.

            January 29th, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (14-7, 4-4) dropped to .500 in Big East play this evening as the #13 Connecticut Huskies (18-3, 7-2) rolled over the Mountaineers in Storrs 97-74. This marks West Virginia's third loss in its last four games.

Connecticut was rolling from the start. The Huskies led 48-40 at halftime and extended their lead further in the second half, resulting in an old-fashioned blowout.

Connecticut shot 62% from the floor, mainly due to many easy buckets in the paint, where WVU simply couldn't defend the Huskies well. The Huskies also were dominant on the offensive glass, which resulted in a 41-21 rebounding advantage in favor of Connecticut.

The Mountaineers will hit the floor again on Saturday in hopes of righting the ship, but it won't be easy as they will have to travel to Queens, NY to take on the #23 St. John's Red Storm (17-4, 6-2), who have been surprisingly good this season.

              February 1st, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (15-7, 5-4) finally righted the ship tonight after losing three of their last four games as they ousted the St. John's Red Storm (17-5, 6-3) 78-68 on the road.

St. John's shot an even 50% from the field, but West Virginia won the game at the free throw stripe and from beyond the arc, as the Mountaineers shot 20-for-25 from the line and 12-for-32 from distance.

Justino Whitworth emerged from his nasty slump in recent games as he scored a career-high 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Josh Bigby totaled 11 points and 4 assists while Marquel Proffitt just missed out on a double-double with 9 points and 10 boards.

The Mountaineers will host the Georgetown Hoyas (13-6, 5-3) on Wednesday.

Just when things started to move in the right direction, the West Virginia Mountaineers (16-8, 6-5) dropped a game they couldn't afford to lose. For the second time this season, the Mountaineers dropped a game to, quite frankly, and awful team. The Mountaineers just never seemed to leave the locker room as they lost to the DePaul Blue Demons (8-14, 2-8) in a listless effort that had many searching for answers.

"I'm not quite sure what happened out there," explained Coach Frizzell. "We just didn't give much effort. We were sloppy; we couldn't shoot; we couldn't play defense. We sucked. Place the blame on me. I should have had us more ready."

The Mountaineers trailed by three points with 30 seconds remaining, but the Blue Demons hit nine of their 10 free throw attempts in the final minute to seal their upset victory.

West Virginia's upcoming schedule does have some opportunities for victories in the final seven games of the season, but if the Mountaineers couldn't beat DePaul, it is yet to be seen if they can take advantage. The Mountaineers have a tough one coming up this coming Tuesday as the Mountaineers will take on Syracuse (15-8, 5-6).

Wow 3-17 from 3pt. No starter in double digits.. What happend to Coach Frizzell Basketball, looks like USF is still playing well without you and could have a better chance at a NCAA berth then you.

The team has been struggling lately.

That said, we have a better chance at an NCAA berth than I thought because our RPI is seventh in the nation, even with eight losses. I think our difficult non-conference schedule really paid off in that regard.

                          Plus, we're 3-4 vs. the top 25, 6-5 vs. RPI 1-50, 4-1 vs. RPI 51-100, 6-2 vs. RPI 101-200, and 1-0 vs. RPI 201+.

Very nice. I feel like the Big BEast always gets a bunch of teams in.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (17-8, 7-5) got back on track this evening in front of ESPN's Super Tuesday as they exacted revenge on the Syracuse Orange (15-9. 5-7) 64-56, evening this season's series at one apiece after Syracuse won the first meeting at the Carrier Dome. It wasn't a game filled with offensive fireworks as WVU shot a horrendous 2-for-19 from three-point range, but defense got the job done as the Mountaineers held the Orange to their lowest point total of the season.

The threesome of Marqus Coulter, Marquel Proffitt, and DeShaun Chatman performed brilliantly in the low post. Coulter totaled 15 points, 6 rebounds, and a career-high 4 blocked shots. Marquel Proffitt tallied 16 point and 3 rebounds while DeShaun Chatman came off the bench to contribute 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Mountaineers will travel to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls (8-14, 2-8) this Sunday.

I don't know how much Rizzo is going to like you beating up on both St John's and Syracuse...
