Congrats on the win. How are you liking the second half of the season since switching to a three guard lineup? Also, how tall are your starting guards?

We've been pretty successful with it, though Allan Pena sure made a strong argument for more playing time against St. John's. I'm going to stick with the three-guard lineup for the remainder of this season, but I may try starting Pena again next year. He's very good at attacking the rim, despite his subpar shooting.

            New York, NY
            March 12th, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (22-11) and the #11 Cincinnati Bearcats (26-7) engaged in a thrilling classic this evening in the second round of the 2020 edition of the Big East Tournament. In the end, after three overtimes, the Cincinnati Bearcats prevailed to move on to the conference semifinals.

Cincinnati looked like it may run away with the game in the early going as the Bearcats led 43-33 at halftime with Marquel Proffitt in deep foul trouble. However, Proffitt began producing in a big way in the second half, scoring 10 points in the final period of regulation as the game went to overtime with the game tied at 70 apiece.

Neither team could clinch the game in the first overtime as the game went on to a second overtime. Then, the turning point of the game happened as Marquel Proffitt fouled out. Proffitt produced 15 points and 9 rebounds in only 19 minutes of playing time. While the Mountaineers went on to force a third overtime, his presence was missed.

In the third overtime, Cincinnati showcased its dominance as the Bearcats led by as many as eight points. West Virginia actually had a chance to tie the game at 100 apiece in the closing seconds of the third overtime period, but Justino Whitworth's shot clanked off the rim and the Mountaineers were sent home packing.

The Bearcats will move on to face #6 Connecticut (26-5) in the Big East Tournament semifinals. #1 Marquette (26-3) and Villanova (24-10) will meet up in the other semifinal game.

West Virginia will head home and wait for their NCAA Tournament selection this Sunday. The Mountaineers are currently projected as a #6 seed in the Syracuse bracket.

Sorry you didn't take the Big East title this year. You can't win them all, but good luck in the NCAA Tournament where it really matters most.

After destroying St. John's, I thought we may have enough momentum to make a run for the Big East Title, but apparently not. Oh well, I didn't really expect to get past the second round, anyways.

Congratulations on making the tournament, and proving me wrong (I had you making the NIT's at the start of the season).

Looks like you'll be playing San Francisco in the 2nd round, then if you beat them you have Cincinatti again (barring an upset) so this tournament should be interesting.

A very interesting NCAA Backet.. 5 teams from the Mountain West..

A possible W. Virginia vs San Francisco 2nd Round matchup..

Duquesne getting a #1 Seed and Rhode Island getting a #2 seed.
