        2020 Recruiting Class

Coach Frizzell had two scholarships to offer this season and he used both of them as four-star small forward Daryan Fitzwater and three-star center Osei Forney will join the Mountaineers next year.

Fitzwater, a 6'6" small forward out of Chicago, IL, is projected to be a very good player in the future. He isn't the greatest shooter, but he is a very good defender and has tremendous athleticism. Fitzwalter was rated as the 57th-best recruit in the 2020 class.

Forney is a seven-footer out of Kent, OH. His size is a huge asset as he is a very good rebounder. He should be able to make an impact right away next season for the Mountaineers, most likely off the bench. He will be another member of the great tradition of dominant low post players under Coach Frizzell's wise guidance.

"We didn't have any particularly pressing needs this year," said Coach Frizzell, "but we picked up two very good kids and I'm excited to have them on the team. We return most of our players, so next season could be a very good season for us with the addition of Daryan and Osei.

With only two players signed, this class ranks 112th in the NCAA and 10th in the Big East. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pulled in this year's top class, highlighted by three All-Americans and three Mr. Basketballs of their respective states.

        Signed Recruits:
        1. Daryan Fitzwater 6'6 229 (Chicago, IL - #57 overall, #10 SF) 4*
        2. Osei Forney 7'0 249 (Kent, OH - #225 overall, #11 C) 3*

His certainly is. I only hope that mine could be as good and that I can get this far without my file getting corrupted like the last one (maybe I coulda brought home Final 4 appearances for R/L Bob Knight's alma mater (Ohio State).

Haha, well, we got those Wolverines again this year! Hopefully, it ends up better than last year! I remember how well they shot the ball last year in Ann Arbor.

My preseason ranking is #17 and I like the way this team looks this year. This year should be an improvement over last year.

You got to save your legacy in two places, Don!

I have mine saved twice on my Xbox 360 hard drive and twice on my memory card. I alternate saves between the two devices after every couple games played, plus I keep a save from the end of each season (well, I didn't do that at first, but I've done it for the last couple years). This way, the chances of a file corrupting would be slim to none. It would be terrible to lose this legacy at this point.

Hopefully, you can make it back to Ohio State or Indiana in your current coaching legacy!

I played the first three games of the season this past weekend and have updates ready to roll. I'll update those games tonight and tomorrow and will play some more games this weekend.

The 17th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers got off to a good start this afternoon in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off as they defeated the UW-Milwaukee Panthers 80-59. The Mountaineers had a battle on their hands early on, but as the game droned on, the Mountaineers' superiority in talent began to overwhelm the Panthers, culminating in a relatively easy 21-point victory to kick off the season for West Virginia.

Allen Pena led both teams in scoring, totaling 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. He hit three treys. Marquel Proffitt also had an impressive showing with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Newcomer Osei Forney scored 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 13 minutes of action. Fellow freshman Daryan Fitzwater tallied an assist in two minutes of action.

"This is a good way to kick off the season," commented Coach Frizzell. "The Panthers are a good basketball team, so to beat them by double-digits is an impressive feat, especially considering that this is the first game of the season for us.

"I was a bit concerned about the fact that we turned the ball over 16 times, but we'll get this corrected as we advance through the season."

The Mountaineers will take on the Brown Bears (3-0) tomorrow for a chance to head to New York City to take part in the NIT Season Tip-Off Semifinals. The Bears defeated Winston-Salem State 74-53 earlier this afternoon.

The West Virginia Mountaineers narrowly avoided an upset against a Brown Bears team which entered this game undefeated. Playing for a chance to get to New York to take part in the Pre-Season NIT Tipoff Semifinals, the Bears gave it their all, far outperforming their level of talent, but in the end, the more talented team won as the Mountaineers claimed a 62-55 victory.

Brown led for much of the first half as they got off to a very quick start. At halftime, the Mountaineers clawed back to tie the game at 24 apiece, but the Mountaineers were shooting the ball very poorly.

In the second half, the Mountaineers' offensive woes improved somewhat as WVU put 38 points up on the scoreboard in the second half. While they continued to struggle shooting the ball, they hit 18 of 21 free throw attempts and collected numerous offensive rebounds, outrebounding Brown 35-20.

Marquel Proffitt only hit 3 of his 8 shots, but he still managed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Dinky Woods led the Mountaineers in scoring with 13 points.

Brown's Kiri Prillman led both teams in scoring with 21 points in 9-for-15 shooting. Prillman and Raphael Miller were the only consistant shooters for the Bears tonight as the two combined for 35 of the Bears' 55 points.

With the victory, the Mountaineers will advance to the NIT Season Tipoff Semifinals. West Virginia will take on Tulsa (4-0) on November 18th for a chance to reach the finals.

Fortunately, UNC-CH decided to allow us to retain control of our own destinies in the ACC after their defeat of Florida State.

After struggling against Brown last week, the West Virginia Mountaineers easily dispatched of the Winthrop Eagles this evening 94-55 in the Mountaineers' home opener.

West Virginia got off to an extremely fast start, seizing an 11-0 lead right off the batch which would eventually grow to a 22-4 lead. Winthrop would never have a chance as the Mountaineers' lead continued to swell, eventually resulting in a 50-21 halftime lead.

With the huge lead, Coach Frizzell emptied his bench and allowed everyone to get considerable playing time. 11 of the 12 players on the West Virginia active roster scored, as a result.

Justino Whitworth took advantage of this opportunity for playing time as he hit 7 of 11 shots for 22 points and 3 steals in 19 minutes. Freshman Olie Forney also took advantage as he totaled 13 points, 5 rebounds, and a pair of blocks. His 13 points and 2 blocks were new career highs. Zachary Wooten scored 9 points off the bench, also a new career mark for the sophomore.

With the easy win, the Mountaineers will be well-rested for their upcoming matchup against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (4-0) next Wednesday in the NIT Season Tipoff Semifinals.
