    vs.
    Charlotte (8-3) vs. #4 West Virginia (9-0)
    WVU Coliseum
    Morgantown, WV
    December 5th, 2020

Riding a wave of momentum after their 22-point win against #14 Duke earlier this week, the #4 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-0) rolled into Morgantown and crushed the Charlotte 49ers (8-3) 94-75 behind a strong showing in the second half.

The game was never really much in doubt, by Charlotte kept the doubt hanging around for awhile. However, a late West Virginia run sealed the deal as the Mountaineers wrapped up an impressive win to add to their already-impressive resume.

If it weren't for Stan Byfield's heriocs, the game probably would not have even been close. The Charlotte shooting guard was on the mark shooting the basketball all night long, hitting six of nine from three-point territory and hitting nine of 11 from the stripe. Byfield ended the game with 33 points. Unfortunately for Charlotte, a one-man show isn't enough to beat West Virginia in Morgantown.

Justino Whitworth also had a very fine game. The 6'4" guard made eight of his nine shot attempts en route to 20 points. "It seems like I couldn't miss," remarked Whitworth after the game. For a stretch, Whitworth made four shots in four consecutive possessions as he played a large role in blowing the game open in the second half.

Dinky Woods and Marquel Proffitt also had fine games, scoring 14 points apiece in the Mountaineers' victory.

With the victory, the Mountaineers improve to 9-0 and will have a week off before taking on a ranked Duquesne team in Pittsburgh. The Dukes have been playing very well this season and should provide a stiff test for the highly-ranked Mountaineers.

Read this in three days. Wow!, never seen a dynasty go past two years before. I loved reading about your PU and USF teams. Hope you can get this WVU team to the title. Also I have CH 2k7 and am thinking about CH 2K8, and I've heard CH 2k8 is a great game. Do you know what CH 2K8 has the CH 2k7 doesn't?

I just bought this game and I am completely lost on how to recruit, play, etc. I really want to get a Legacy going, but it seems so much harder than NCAA Football. Any help would be appreciated.

I have my two priorities for recruiting set and then have my "assistants" make the first contact with players that fit those priorities. From there, I make sure to put the players that I want on a target list and place a call to them every week first, then to some of the others on the contacted list. I would also make the final decisions as to whom to offer scholarships.

At least, that's how I do it in mine.

Thanks. It's hard to believe that I will have had this going for three years next month, considering I can't keep any other of my dynasties going for more than a month.

CH 2K8 has the ABL, although I really don't use it. Overall, I don't recall all too much different between the two games, but CH 2K8 is better refined in the gameplay and graphical departments. It's not significantly better, but it's worth the upgrade unless you are really deep into legacy mode in 2K7 or something, IMO.

For recruiting, you basically just find guys that are interested in your school and phone them, email them, invite them to the campus, visit them, ect. I don't really have a set formula for it. It gets easier as you move to a higher profile school. I am not really all that great at recruiting, but I've done well enough to get a pretty stacked team this year, at least.

As for playing, it takes getting used to. I've gotten markedly better over these three years of having the game, even though I have not really noticed it. One thing in this game is that you can abuse throwing the ball to the basket so much that it is essentially a cheat, so I would avoid doing that as it's quite cheesy.

Running set plays helps get you open shots, as well, though, to be honest, I haven't ran a whole lot of set plays this year and, instead, have just been moving the basketball around, setting up picks, and stuff like that. Of course, it helps that I have one of the best-rated teams in America.

A lot of stuff just comes with practice. The CH 2K8 forums both on OS and at the 2KSports.com web site have some good tips, as well.

There are a lot of great legacies out there. I think it is really neat to play really deep into legacy mode, though, and see how everything evolves. I would have never had this chance if it weren't for CH 2K being discontinued, so in a way I am actually glad that it was discontinued so I could really experience legacy mode in its fullest. I'd never gotten more than a few years into legacy mode in the past (I play every game), so this has been a new experience for me and has really made playing a career legacy worth it.

My only regret with this legacy is not having the difficulty level a bit higher there at the beginning as I felt I achieved success too quickly, but it is what it is and I can't change it now.

                      #2 West Virginia (10-0) vs. #16 Duquesne (8-3)
                      A. J. Palumbo Center
                      Pittsburgh, PA
                      December 12th, 2020

The second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (10-0) faced off against their third straight tough opponent in a row this chilly Saturday afternoon as they faced off against the 16th-ranked Duquesne Dukes (8-3) out of the Atlantic 10. Unlike their last two games against Duke and Charlotte, the Mountaineers got all they could handle against the Dukes and were fortunate enough to come away with an 84-81 victory to remain unscathed, improving to 10-0 on the season with two non-conference games remaining before Big East Conference play starts on December 30th.

The Mountaineers got off to a rather quick start and led 45-38 at halftime, but the Dukes fought back in the second half, never letting the game get out of hand. West Virginia retained the lead for the entirety of the second period, but it was not without tense moments as Duquesne especially made a run in the closing minutes, cutting the lead to one point in the final minutes before eventually falling by three points to the #2 team in the nation.

All five Duquesne starters scored in double-figures as the Dukes used a balanced attack to score against a normally tough Mountaineer defense. Levi Boyden led the way for the Dukes, recording a double-double as he tallied 17 points and 11 boards, shooting seven of eight from the floor and hitting three of four free throw attempts.

For the second straight game, Justino Whitworth provided the Mountaineers with some offensive fireworks from off the bench. Today, Whitworth came in to hit six field goals in 12 minutes, including three treys. Whitworth ended the game with 18 points. Dinky Woods also had a strong game for West Virginia, hitting six field goals to record 20 points, three rebounds, and a trio of steals. Marquel Proffitt provided a steady force down low, as usual, as he totaled 14 points and 4 rebounds.

The Mountaineers have two non-conference games remaining before taking on Villanova on December 30th to open up conference play in the Big East. WVU's last two non-conference games are at home against Michigan and Coach Frizzell's old team, the San Francisco Dons.

                        vs.
                        Michigan (7-5) vs. #2 West Virginia (11-0)
                        WVU Coliseum
                        Morgantown, WV
                        December 15th, 2020

It wasn't the most offensively inspiring game ever played, but it was a win for the second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (11-0), nonetheless, as WVU took care of business to knock off the struggling Michigan Wolverines (7-5) in their 63-50 victory Tuesday evening.

The Mountaineers were led by a strong effort by Allan Pena and Marquel Proffitt. Pena led all Mountaineers in scoring with 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Proffitt recorded 15 points and nine boards. Dinky Woods also recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

The Mountaineers struggled mightily in some aspects of the game, particularly in the turnover department. West Virginia recorded an eye-popping 19 turnovers this evening, which is something that the Mountaineers need to work on if they want to continue to improve. The turnovers put a serious dent into West Virginia's offensive performance.

"We need to improve in the turnover department quickly before Big East Conference platy begins," said Coach Frizzell after the game. "In most aspects of the game, we are a very good basketball team, but we turn the ball over too many times to be a great team."

Despite a generally putrid offensive night for the Michigan Wolverines as the Mountaineers turned in one of their best defensive performances to date, junior point guard Lawrence Law scored 22 points and totaled four steals to lead all participants in scoring. Law scored 22 of Michigan's 50 points and, without his contribution, the game would not have even been close.

West Virginia will play their last non-conference game before conference play begins as Coach Frizzell will square off against his old squad, the San Francisco Dons. Please note that the Mountaineers will have one non-conference opponent remaining after the USF game, that being the Marshall Thundering Herd on January 19th.

                          December 27th, 2020

The second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (12-0) continued on their roll to perfection this evening. The Mountaineers flat-out dominated Coach Frizzell's former team, the San Francisco Dons (5-9), eventually coming out on top 79-42.

The Mountaineers used a balanced attack and ferocious defense to easily win this game Sunday afternoon against a struggling San Francisco team. The Mountaineers had four players score in double-figures. Meanwhile, no one for San Francisco scored more than seven points this afternoon.

West Virginia was led by Marquel Proffitt, who totaled 16 points and six rebounds. Josh Bigby also had a fine game off the bench, tallying points and three rebounds. Dinky Woods scored 14 points while Allan Pena totaled 11.

After turning the ball over 19 times last game against Michigan, the Mountaineers only turned the ball over five times tonight, a dramatic improvement over their recent games.

"We went in with a mindset not to turn the basketball over and we succeeded, finally," remarked Coach Frizzell. "I think you can see the difference it made on the scoreboard."

West Virginia will open up Big East Conference play next week against Villanova and Notre Dame.

Great job in dominating over the Dons. Looks like you took better care of the ball with just the 5 turnovers. The team looks ready for the upcoming Big East play. Good luck.

BTW, getting to year 2020 is amazing. Hopefully I can get there and have the success at the power conference level as you have.

You just flat out dominated the Don's. Did you feel bad at all?

Like Don said. Props to sticking with this and getting to year 2020. It's crazy. I did it with my Orginal Coach Dezaron on the 2k forums, but that was playing just College Hoops everyday for almost a year straight.

If you keep up with it long enough, you can. Unfortunately, you had that disk read error which caused you to have to restart your legacy or you would have been at least through 2015, probably.

I did a little, bit, I guess, haha. I was surprised how easy they were to beat considering they are rated an 87 overall (I have no idea why they have such a horrible record this year).

Yeah, if I would have continuously played this game for three years, I would have been very deep into legacy, but I've taken numerous breaks lasting many months to keep the game fresh. After a few months away from the game, it almost feels like a new game again (except that you don't have to relearn anything).
