Princeton Rallies Past Rutgers in Overtime

    11/27 vs. Rutgers

    Final: 64-60

Princeton picked up a huge win today as the Tigers knocked off their in-state rivals, the 5-1 Rutgers Scarlet Knights, by a final score of 64-60. It took an overtime to do so, but a win is a win. Princeton trailed 62-60 with 10 seconds left in regulation, but Cassiand Swift hit a hook-shot with just five seconds remaining to tie it up and send the game to overtime. Princeton would easily control the overtime period and would push their record to 5-4 because of it. Cassiand Swift was big, as usual, as he totaled 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists. Romain Bright also had a fine game as he tallied 18 points and 3 rebounds. "Hopefully, we can build some momenthum off this win," beamed Coach Frizzell about this game's long-term implications.

    Princeton is now 5-4.

    Hawkeyes Down Princeton Again

    11/30 vs. Iowa

    Final: 73-74

Princeton would fall short once again to the Iowa Hawkeyes after being defeated by Iowa in the Great Alaska Shootout exactly one week ago. This game, like the last one, came down to the final shot. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they failed to make the game-winner in both games. Down 74-73, Princeton's Cassiand Swift missed a hook-shot with time expiring. "We had a good look and Cassiand had a good game; we just didn't convert that time down the floor," commented Coach Frizzell. Despite missing the game-winner, Swift still had a fine game as he totaled 23 points and 8 rebounds. Romain Bright added 14 points while C.J. Harrington tallied 9 points and 7 rebounds.

    Princeton is now 5-5.

12/1 - First Day of Fall Signing Period

2khoops.com analyst Lee Williamson reported today that 6'4 shooting guard Ashley Acasio signed his letter of intent to play for the Princeton Tigers. Acasio is a three-star caliber prospect out of Brooklyn, New York as Coach Frizzell continues to hit the New York area hard. "Acasio doesn't particularly blow you away in any respect, but he's a solid player and has some potential," explained Lee Williamson. "He could definitely be a fine player for the Tigers." Acasio was the 32nd ranked shooting yard of the 2014 class and the 155th ranked player overall. Here is a look at him:

    1. Ashley Acasio 6'4 186 (Brooklyn, NY - #155 overall, #32 SG) 3*

Buzzer Beater Falls Short as Princeton Wins 68-67

      12/7 @ Holy Cross

      Final: 68-67

The Princeton Tigers picked up a much-needed win on Pearl Harbor Day as the Tigers were able to block the Crusaders' final shot with time expiring to give the Tigers a much-need win. "This game was too close. We shouldn't be winning by just one point, but I guess we'll take any kind of win we can get at this point," simmered Coach Frizzell. Wesley French had a nice game as he tallied 14 points while backcourt-mate Cedric Tchana added 11 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Cassiand Swift totaled 12 points and 7 rebounds down low while Benjamin McBridle came off the bench to score 11 points.

      Princeton is now 6-5.

      Mid-Major Top 15 Poll

The Princeton Tigers slid back four spots in the latest mid-major top 25 poll as the Tigers came in ranked #14. UL-Lafayette (6-0) still remains #1, but the Buffalo Bulls out of the MAC have turned some heads with their 7-0 start and are currently ranked #3.

      Princeton Clobbers Gonzaga

      12/12 vs. Gonzaga

      Final: 84-61

Princeton turned a 41-40 halftime deficit into a dominating 84-61 win as the Tigers gained a huge win tonight by knocking off the Bulldogs, who came in ranked ninth in the mid-major poll. Princeton was down by double-digits in the first half. Then Coach Frizzell did something he rarely does. He utilized the press. Frizzell commented, "I rarely press and I prefer to play straight-up defense, but we just weren't getting it done tonight. Not only did we force a good deal of turnovers, but we kept their offense out of rhythm in the second half." Gonzaga was outscored 44-20 in the second half. All five starters got into double-figures as this was quite a balanced performance. Wesley French was the leading scorer with 15 points to go along with 4 assists and 4 steals. Cedric Tchana went 2-2 from downtown and totaled 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Romain Bright tallied 12 points and 3 assists. C.J. Harrington (14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) had a solid game while Cassiand Swift continued to dominate the boards with a dominating 17 rebound game tonight to go along with 12 points.

      Princeton is now 7-5.

        Princeton Blows Past Boise State

        12/15 vs. Boise State

        Final: 93-73

Princeton had its best offensive outburst of the season tonight as the Princeton Tigers shot 63% from the field in a huge 20 point win over the Boise State Broncos. "We played very well tonight and we shot well for a chance. That was the difference," stated Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift was the main contributor as he tallied 30 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks in a stellar performance in every way as he continues to impress NBA scouts. Wesley French also had a nice game, tallying 18 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals while Romain Bright finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.

        Princeton is now 8-5.

Drexel Snaps Princeton's Three Game Winning Streak

        12/18 @ Drexel

        Final: 61-68

The Princeton Tigers' had went 3-1 in their latest home-stand, but now that they had to travel to Philadelphia to take on the Drexel Dragons, things did not turn out so well. Coach Frizzell explained, "We just struggled most of the game. In the first half, we were careless with the basketball and not very good shooting the ball, but we still played well on defense. In the second half, we shot a lot better, but our defense simply didn't shot up." Cassiand Swift didn't have a great game by his standards, but he still managed a solid 15 point, 9 rebound performance. Cedric Tchana had a great game, sinking three three-pointers to end with 15 ponts and 4 assists while Wesley French totaled 11 points and 3 assists.

        Princeton is now 8-6.

          Princeton Tops Seton Hall

          12/28 @ Seton Hall

          Final: 74-68

This year may not quite be living up to expectations in Princeton thus far, but Princeton has swept it's New Jersey in-state rivals, something the Tigers couldn't accomplish last year. Cassiand Swift willed Princeton to a six point victory as his 29 point, 15 rebound, 3 steal performance was the deciding factor in this rivalry game. "He's been playing great lately and without him, we would not have won this game," stated Coach Frizzell. Wesley French didn't do it all alone, however, as Wesley French paced the offense with 13 points and 4 assists while Cedric Tchana scored 10 points. Denis Graham also came off the bench to score a career-high 10 points.

          Princeton is now 9-6.

Huge Second Half Lifts Princeton Past Long Beach State

          12/29 vs. Long Beach State

          Final: 92-58

The Princeton Tigers used a 57 point second half explosion to turn a 35-33 halftime lead over 1-9 Long Beach State into an impressive 92-58 win. "We turned the ball over too much and just didn't play too well there in the first half, but we played about as good as possible there in the second half," beamed Coach Frizzell. Denis Graham followed up his career game last week with another career game as he tallied 17 points and 5 rebounds off the bench in the victory. Benjamin McBridle also came off the bench to score 13 points while Romain Bright went a perfect 3-3 from downtown to add 13 points to the effort. Cedric Tchana managed 12 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Wesley French didn't have a great offensive day, but anytime you can rack up 9 assists, you deserve some recognition. He also added 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals to that effort. Cassiand Swift continued to dominate as he added yet another double-double, ending with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

          Princeton is now 10-6.

Princeton was up by as much as 20 in the second half before the Quakers made a late run, but the Tigers held on. Wesley French paced the offense with 11 points and 6 assists while Cedric Tchana ended with 14 points. Denis Graham came off the bench to deliver 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. "We didn't play our best ball and I didn't like how we started to slack off there at the end of the game, but we'll take the win," stated Coach Frizzell.

            Princeton is now 11-6 (1-0).

Cassiand Swift led the team with 26 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks. Cedric Tchana went 2-3 from downtown to end with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals while Timon Michaud came off the bench to add 13 points.

Penn's Major Buboltz could not be stopped. The 6'7 junior was amazing for the Quakers as he hit 13-18 shots overall and 5-7 from three-point range to end with 32 points as he nearly won the game for the Quakers. "It didn't matter how we defended him. He was just rising up and hitting everything right over us. We were able to win, anyways, but he sure made things very interesting," said Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift didn't have a great rebounding day as he ended with only 5 rebounds, but he still hit 9-14 shots and scored 25 points. C.J. Harrington also had a nice game as he scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He also blocked 3 shots. Wesley French dished out 6 assists to go along with 8 points, as well, in the victory.

Cedric Tchana was 5-7 from three as he ended with 15 points while Cassiand Swift was consistent, as always, ending with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Coach Frizzell commented, "Cassiand Swift is the only guy on this team that we can consistently depend on to have productive games. He's very important to this team."

              Princeton is now 14-6 (3-0).

              2/1 @ Cornell

              Final: 74-60

"We didn't play very well, but we still got it done. I must have cursed Cassiand Swift last week when I said that we could always depend on him to have a productive game. He only scored 6 points, but he still did grab 15 rebounds and dish out 3 assists, so he still did a good job," said Coach Frizzell. Wesley French starred in this one, however, as the freshman point guard ended with a career-high 21 points and 3 assists. Romain Bright was the only other player to score in double-figures as Bright ended with 14 points and 5 assists. C.J. Harrington had a nice game down low totaling 8 points and 7 rebounds.

              Princeton is now 15-6 (4-0).

Princeton won its 29th consecutive Ivy League game dating all the way back to February 3rd, 2012 when Princeton dropped a 69-51 decision to this same Dartmouth team. Today, Princeton prevailed as the Tigers seized a 40-30 halftime lead an cruised to a 14 point win. Cedric Tchana put many daggers in the hearts of the Dartmouth players as he kept on getting open from beyond the arc. He ended with six three-pointers and totaled 20 points and 4 rebounds. Wesley French paced the offense with 9 points and 7 assists while C.J. Harrington (8 points, 10 rebounds) and Cassiand Swift (16 points, 17 rebounds) teamed up down low to combine for 24 point and 27 rebounds. "We kept on getting open looks from beyond the arc in this one. I wasn't overly impressed with our shooting numbers considering how open we were, but we still played well enough to win," commented Coach Frizzell.

              Princeton is now 17-6 (6-0).

                  I wish we were 17-4 ... but we're 17-6.

Nope. I don't have the game on right now, but I'm pretty sure everyone has at least three losses (At least of power conference teams). There's a lot of parity in this game; oftentimes too much parity, in fact.

                    30 Wins in a Row!!!

                    2/14 vs. Columbia

                    Final: 74-41

The Princeton Tigers returned home to Jadwin Gym tonight to rout the Columbia Lions by 33 points and secured their 30th consecutive Ivy League Conference win. The game was knotted up 30-30 at halftime, but Princeton was on fire for the entire second half as the Tigers outscored the Lions by a stunning 44-11 margin in the second frame of play. "It's not been easy to keep this streak going. We may have the best team in the conference, but it's tough to go out there and avoid an upset over a 30 game stretch," Coach Frizzell said. Wesley French paced the offense with 12 points and 6 assists while Cedric Tchana ended with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Romain Bright made a night of driving to the basket as he also collected 11 points and 5 rebounds while Cassiand Swift was his normal dominant self as he ended with 10 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Denis Graham came off the bench to tack on 9 points and 4 rebounds.

                    Princeton is now 18-6 (7-0).

                    Win Streak Now at Eleven

                    2/15 vs. Yale

                    Final: 87-66

Romain Bright's career-high 29 points off of 11-16 shooting was the key to Princeton's 11th consecutive win tonight. "He had a great game and it was great to see him break out of the slump he's been in," said Coach Frizzell. Bright has only shot a disappointing 26% from three-point range on the season, but he was on fire tonight as he went 5-7 from long distance. To go along with his career-high 29 points, he collected 8 rebounds, which is also a career-high for the freshman small forward. Cassiand Swift was no slouch, either, as he totaled 17 points an 10 rebounds. Wesley French narrowly missed a double-double as he tallied 14 points and 8 assists in the game.

                    Princeton is now 19-6 (8-0).

Yeah, for the most part the traditional powers that you would expect to be up near the top are there. We don't have any craziness like having Texas Southern ranked or anything, LOL! The South Florida Bulls have been pretty good in this legacy, though, as they've been consistently in the top 25 for the last couple of seasons.

Looks like another year of PU beating up on the rest of the Ivy League. The Tigers have yet to be challenged by any other team in the conference. Jadwin Gym must be filled every game by now. It looks like the future of PU continues to be BRIGHT.

Yep, more of the same for us it appears, assuming we don't get upset.

Jadwin Gym has been sold out for the past three or four seasons now. I'd like to expand, but unfortunately there is no option for that! Still, it seats more than 6,500, so it's a pretty nice gym for a small school like Princeton.

Bright is really starting to "brighten" up now. He struggled with his shot early on, but now I think I'm getting his shot type down and he's starting to stroke it well. He has a lot of the same skill sets as Wendell Lalugba in that he can drive it and shoot it. He also is a very talented defender, so the future may be BRIGHT, indeed!

Coach Frizzell, is there any chance that you look at bigger and better opportunities after this season? Or will you continue to build the Tigers into a national powerhouse?
