Yep, we are at times and we are not that much better than the rest of the Ivy League to play sloppily and still win. We are by far the most talented team in the conference, but not by enough to give 50% of our effort and still win like we seem to have lately.

Thanks for flattering me Colonel Hogan.

      Princeton Beats Harvard

      2/10 @ Harvard

      Final: 67-57

Princeton struggled early on in this game, only leading 30-25 at halftime. However, the Tigers managed to get it together and got out to a 19 point lead late in the game before nearly blowing it as they let the Crimson get within six points with 30 seconds left. Fortunately, Princeton sunk their free throws and pulled out the win. "We almost let this one get out of hand late," said Coach Frizzell, "but we buckled down and managed to pull out the win." Wendell Lalugba was the leading scorer as he tallied 25 points and 5 rebounds. Reynold Gross paced the offense with 17 points and 5 assists while Martin Sow had a solid game down low, totaling 10 points and 8 rebounds.

      Princeton is now 18-5 (6-1).

      Press Conference

Halfway through the Ivy League Conference schedule, Princeton sits atop the Ivy League with a 6-1 conference record, though many thought this team had the talent to be 7-0 easily. Coach Frizzell replied, "We do have the talent to do so, but other things come into play as well. We had much more talent than Dartmouth, who beat us; I don't think one can dispute that, but they just came out and performed flawlessly while we had a less than spectacular showing on offense which ultimately cost us the game. To go undefeated, a team must have the right combination of willpower, talent, and luck. It's hard to go undefeated, even when playing lesser competition. We're still sitting atop the Ivy League Conference standings, so we're alright."

      Princeton Tops Columbia

      2/11 @ Columbia

      Final: 66-56

Another game, another 10 point win for the Princeton Tigers. "We definitely did not play our best game out there, but we still managed to win. We never got a big lead, but we led pretty much the entire game by 10 or so points and rolled on to a victory," explained Coach Frizzell. After two straight 25 point games, Wendell Lalugba struglled in this one as he only scored 6 points and went 2-8 from the floor. However, Reynold Gross picked up the slack with 19 points and 6 assists. Martin Sow (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Ferdinand Djordic (11 points, 3 rebounds) both had good games down low in the win. However, Cedric Tchana continued to struggle as he only scored 4 points on 2-7 shooting. Tchana has scored 4 points or less in his last four games. During that stretch, he is averaging 3.25 points per game and has shot 5-24 from the field and 2-14 from long range.

      Princeton is now 19-5 (7-1).

      Mid-Major Top 15 Poll

Despite winning both games the previous week, Princeton has slipped two spots in the latest mid-major top 25 poll to #13. Princeton did struggle in each game as the Tigers had trouble getting ahead and only won both games by only 10 points. Princeton's RPI ranking is looking good right now as the Tigers are ranked 58th in the nation in RPI.

Princeton Overcomes Slow Start to Win 20th Game of the Year

        2/17 @ Penn

        Final: 75-60

Princeton was able to come out of Philadelphia with a win tonight despite being down 33-30 at halftime. Princeton had a huge second half to win by a solid 15 points. Coach Frizzell stated, "We put on a very poor display of basketball in the first half, but we were able to overcome it and we played the basketball that we have become accustomed to in the second half: shooting threes and posting up with success." Wendell Lalugba bounced back from his lowly 6 point performance last week to record 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in this one. Martin Sow (13 points, 6 assists) played well, bye only grabbed 2 rebounds down low. Ferdinand Djordic also played well as he totaled 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists while Reynold Gross tallied 13 points and 4 assists in the win.

        Princeton is now 20-5 (8-1).

        Tigers Topple Bears at Home

        2/18 @ Brown

        Final: 67-54

Princeton came out fired up as Wendell Lalugba knocked down two three pointers in the first three minutes to get Princeton going. Princeton rolled on and claimed a 39-23 halftime lead. Brown made a valiant comeback attempt in the second half, getting to within six points with under two minutes remaining, but the Tigers sank their free throws, sealing a Princeton sweep over Brown. Wendell Lalugba kept us his spectacular play as he tallied 28 points and 10 assists. It is rare that Lalugba can get a double-double as he plays the small forward position. Martin Sow tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds as he also got a double-double. Reynold Gross chipped in with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. "We played a great game overall. We let them come back in the second half, but we buckled up and came away with the win," commented Coach Frizzell.

        Princeton is now 21-5 (9-1).

          Princeton Blows Out Columbia

          2/24 vs. Columbia

          Final: 79-49

This wasn't supposed to be much of a contest and it certainly was not as the Princeton Tigers romped the lowly Columbia Lions by 30 points. Every starter got over 8 points in the game as the Tigers showed excellent ballance. Cedric Tchana bounced back from his horrific slump to shoot 7-11 from the field and score 18 points. He also notched 3 steals. This is the first time Tchana has recorded over 10 points in six games. Ferdinand Djordic played a great game in the low post, tallying 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Reynold Gross (13 points, 8 assists) and Wendell Lalugba (14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) also had a solid games as did Martin Sow (8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals). "Our offense was very balanced and that was the key to this win," stated Coach Frizzell.

          Princeton is now 22-5 (10-1).

Princeton Feasts on Harvard on Senior Day to Win Ivy League Title

          2/25 vs. Harvard

          Final: 81-46

Princeton has done it again. The Tigers have won the Ivy League Conference title four years in a row as the Tigers demolished the Harvard Crimson 81-46 on Senior Day. "I feel great that we won the title, but I am also glad we could do this for our seniors. What is better than clinching the conference title on Senior Day?" asked Coach Frizzell. Princeton has three seniors graduating this year and each one performed quite well, but none were spectacular. Seniors Martin Sow (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) and Ferdinand Djordic (7 points, 8 rebounds) both had solid games as did fellow senior Damien Allen (4 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) off the bench. However, junior small forward Wendell Lalugba starred in this one as he drained 5 three pointers en route to a game-high 23 points. Junior point guard Reynold Gross also had a great game in his final home game of the year as he tallied 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

          Princeton is now 23-5 (11-1).

          Press Conference

After clinching his fourth Ivy League title in as many years, Coach Frizzell held a press conference to talk about the season. "We had a great season and I was proud of the way we played. This is shaping up to be our best year record-wise since I came here and it is very plausible that we reach the 25 win plateau before season's end. We are now looking forward to Selection Sunday and the NCAA Tournament, but we'll make sure we take care of business for our final two games of the season so we can get a decent seeding in the Big Dance."

          Bracketology

As we enter the final week of the regular season, the Princeton Tigers are projected to be a #10 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Joe Lunardi has them going up against the seventh seeded Xavier Musketeers in the Detroit Regional. "We would be happy with a #10 seed," said Coach Frizzell. "However, I think if we play well in these last two games and some other teams lose, we could move up to a #8 or #9 seed in the tournament. Either way, I am excited to be in the Big Dance again and we'll be looking to hopefully advancing."

Princeton Recovers From Poor First Half to Topple Big Red

            3/2 @ Cornell

            Final: 73-56

The second half was dominated by the Princeton Tigers, but the first half was far from it as the Tigers barely clinged to a 25-23 lead going into the locker room. Coach Frizzell explained, "I think we were still a little jittery having already clinched the conference championship. I got us fired up in the locker room because, even though we're going to the Big Dance regardless of the outcome of these final two games, we want to win these to secure a decent seeding. The boys came out on fire in the second half and we blew Cornell out." Martin Sow dominated the game with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists as he controlled the painted area. Reynold Gross (10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists) and Wendell Lalugba (17 points, 6 rebounds) also delivered solid games. Backup point guard Marin Collins came off the bench and did not score a single point, but tallied a career-high 10 assists in the win.

            Princeton is now 24-5 (12-1).

            Princeton Gets Even With Dartmouth

            3/3 @ Dartmouth

            Final: 76-56

Dartmouth came into Jadwin Gym earlier this season to hand Princeton theur first and only conference loss, so the stakes were high as the Princeton Tigers wanted to give Dartmouth a taste of their own medicine in the form of a big victory on the road. Princeton got their wish as the Tigers rolled to a 20 point win to close out the season. Ferdinand Djordic emerged to score 21 points, just one point away from his career-high of 22 points. He also grabbed 7 rebounds. Perhaps the most surprising storyline of the game was Timon Michaud's 20 point explosition, a career-high for him, breaking his old record of 17 points. Michaud shot 6-10 from three point range and was on fire most of the game. "Michaud has been a quality player since he stepped foot on this campus and he showed us that today. He may not start, but he has stepped up his ability to hit the three pointer and he showed that he can dominate games when given the opportunity. He gives us quite a spark off the bench," explained Coach Frizzell. Wendell Lalugba wasn't too shaby either as he got a double-double. Lalugba tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds in his final game of the 2011-2012 regular season.

Princeton finishes up the regular season 25-5 (13-1).

            Selection Sunday

The NCAA Tournament brackets were released tonight and the Princeton Tigers were overjoyed to receive a #8 seed, the same seed the Tigers got last year. "We are very excited about this opportunity. I felt that the selection committee did a very good job and put us right were we should be in the tournament," commented Coach Frizzell.

The Princeton Tigers were placed in the East Regional and will take on the ninth seeded San Francisco Dons (24-7) in the first round of the tournament. San Francisco won the West Coast Conference with an 11-3 record in conference play, but lost to Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference Championship Game. If the Tigers can get past the Dons, they will have a heavy task to handle as they will take on the mighty North Carolina Tarheels (29-4), who were given the overall #1 seed in the tournament. The Tarheels, who finished 15-1 in ACC conference play, will take on the winner of the play-in game between Tennessee Tech (13-18) and North Carolina A&T (14-22). The Tarheels are loaded and it doesn't look like Princeton stands a chance against them, but only time will tell the outcome. Princeton took on North Carolina in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament, a game Princeton lost in Coach Frizzell's first NCAA Tournament appearance.

Whatever the case, Princeton is excited to be going dancing once again. Go Tigers!!!

Princeton Knocks off San Francisco in First Round

3/16 vs. #9 seed San Francisco

                  NCAA Tournament - First Round

                  Final: 71-56

Two evenly matched teams met up in Albany, NY for the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Princeton looked to be running away with it early and took a 37-21 lead at halftime. However, San Francisco battled back in the second half after falling behind by 23 points early in the second half, but still lost by 15 to the Princeton Tigers as the Tigers advance to the second round to face the #1 seeded North Carolina Tarheels. This game was highlighted by poor shooting as neither team shot over 40%. Princeton still won despite going a horrific 6-34 from three point range. "We certainly did not shoot the ball very well, but our defense and our hard work paid off as we were still able to notch a win against a very good San Francisco squad," said Coach Frizzell. Cedric Tchana was Princeton's leading scorer as he scored 16 points. Reynold Gross added 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists while Martin Sow (9 points, 11 rebounds) and Ferdinand Djordic (10 points, 11 rebounds) both had good games down low. Wendell Lalugba uncharacteristically struggled as he shot 0-7 from three point range and only went 4-14 from the field in the game. Lalugba added 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.

                  Princeton is now 26-5 (13-1).

                  North Carolina Blows out Princeton

3/18 vs. #1 seed North Carolina

                  NCAA Tournament - Second Round

                  Final: 69-103

North Carolina dominated this one right from the start as the Tarheels seized a commanding 57-24 lead at halftime as everything was going right for the Tarheels. The second half was different, however, as Princeton got the lead down to 18 points twice, but it was not enough as Princeton still lost by an embarrassing 34 points. "We were dominated, plain and simple. UNC was too much for us and we played a horrible game in the first half. We played quite well in the second half and it showed up on the scoreboard, but we dug ourselves too deep a hole in the first half and fell because of it," explained Coach Frizzell. Martin Sow was sent out in his final game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Wendell Lalugba bounced back from his poor performance in the San Francisco game to tally 15 points and 3 rebounds. Reynold Gross (13 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals) also played well as did Ferdinand Djordic (8 points, 6 rebounds) and Timon Michaud (10 points). Cedric Tchana was held scoreless as the guard shot 0-5 from the field in the loss.

Princeton ends the season 26-6 (13-1).
                  -----------------------------------------------------------------------
                  Press Conference

After falling hard against North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Coach Frizzell talked to the press about the game and the season. "We just came out flat in the UNC game and blew it. I am still proud of what we accomplished here this season. We still got to the second round in the Big Dance. We got to the Sweet Sixteen two years ago and we were shooting for that this year, but it just wasn't to be.

"We had a great year here and we set the school record for wins, so I don't think we did too bad. We nearly went undefeated in conference play and have won the Ivy League the past four years, so we definitely have something good going here and I can't wait until next season."

                    Princeton Senior News

Today was an emotional day on the Princeton campus as Coach Frizzell said good bye to his first recruiting class which he personally recruited. Gone are the likes of Martin Sow, Ferdinand Djordic, Renardo Rodriguez, and Damien Allen, all of which have made significant impacts on this team in their four years here and have made Princeton basketball what it is today.

"I recruited these guys the first year I was here," Coach Frizzell said. "I was surprised that I was able to reel in such a talented class (all three star recruits) in my first year, but I did have to work to get them, as three out of the four were foreigners. I am very proud of this class' accolades and I wish them all well in their future lives."

Martin Sow was the most talented of this class and had the most impact as some viewed him as the face of Princeton basketball the last few years, though he is mostly overshadowed by Wendell Lalugba's dazzling shooting and slashing. Sow was consistently good throughout his career, averaging over 10.6 points per game every year he played and ending with career averages of 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

Ferdinand Djordic's best year statistically was his freshman year when he averaged 10.5 points per game, the only year he exceeded 10 points per game. However, he was a consistent force and was a pivotal player down low during his career and was a very good rebounder. Djordic graduates with career averages of 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Renardo Rodriguez was known for his great skills at driving to the basket and laying the ball in during his first three seasons in which he averaged over 11 points per game. His best year was his sophomore season in which he averaged 12.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. However, he was forced out of the starting lineup for his senior year with the coming of Reynold Gross. After attempting over 250 shots in each of his first three years, Rodriguez only attempted 55 shots in his senior year due to his lack of playing time. His confidence plundered with the diminished playing time as he essentially became a non-factor for most of his senior year, only seeing action in mop-up duty for the most part. Still, he owns decent career averages of 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Damien Allen came in at only 6'5 as he was a very undersized power forward out of Australia. Allen started at small forward in his freshman season, where he tallied career highs in points (6.7), rebounds (6.1), and assists (1.2). However, he was clearly not made to play small forward and after Wendell Lalugba was brought in, Allen became a solid player coming off the bench in relief of Martin Sow and Ferdinand Djordic. Allen was a very good rebounder for his small stature, and managed to grab 5.8 rebounds per game in his senior year, something that was quite impressive considering he was coming off the bench. Allen owns career averages of 3.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game.

In all likelihood, I am staying put. The only two jobs that have a chance at luring me away are the West Virginia and Marshall jobs, but I don't even think I would take either of those. I'm looking to build a "Memphis of the Ivy League", so to speak, here at Princeton. Plus, there are only 14 conference games in the Ivy League, so that gives me plenty of non-conference games in which I can schedule tough opponents, which should give me a better strength of schedule than if I had to play 16-20 conference games like in most other lower-tier conferences.

                          Off-Season News

Coach Frizzell adamantly stated that he was not going anywhere and even after receiving job offers from several quality mid-major programs, Coach Frizzell elected to stay. He said, "I have no reason to go. I am happy here and there is no reason whatsoever to leave. We have a lot of talent coming here and hopefully more will come in the future. I'm here to win a championship and I hope that we can accomplish that eventually."

Diamon Zahn, Princeton's third string point guard, left the team this off-season due to lack of playing time. Zahn will stay at Princeton to go to college, but felt that he was not getting enough playing time on the team. He will now focus on his studies at Princeton. "I wish him all the best and hope everything works out for him," commented Coach Frizzell.

                          Recruiting News

Princeton got by far it's best class in school history this off-season as the Tigers grabbed an All-American, a five star point, a four star center, and two solid three star prospects. 2khoops.com analyst Lee Williamson commented, "Coach Frizzell got a huge class this year. He locked up Wesley French, an All-American and Mr. Basketball of the state of Maryland, pretty early on, but didn't stop there. Coach Frizzell was able to sign Benjamin McBridle and Kirby Guzman during the fall, both of which should make valuable contributions down the road. The first day of spring signing was an exciting time for Princeton as the Tigers reeled in three star power forward C.J. Harrington and Wesley French. However, Coach Frizzell would not stop there. Four star center, Cassiano Swift, fell through the cracks and Coach Frizzell noticed he had not received a scholarship late in the signing period. Coach Frizzell offered him a scholarship and Swift was forced to take it since Princeton was the only school offering him a scholarship."

"I don't know how we got Swift," Coach Frizzell commented. "We got lucky and he fell through the cracks. This is a very good thing for us, too, because we needed a center badly and now we have one. He'll be making valuable contributions for us from day one. This entire class has me excited for next year. I can't wait as usual."

Here is a look at Princeton's 2012 recruiting class:
                          1. Wesley French 6'0 199 (Baltimore, MD - #14 overall, #6 PG) 5*, All-American, Mr. Basketball
                          2. Cassiand Swift 7'0 254 (Moreno Valley, CA - #31 overall, #1 C) 4*
                          3. Benjamin McBridle 6'2 194 (Charlotte, NC - #174 overall, #54 SG) 3*
                          4. Kirby Guzzman 6'7 210 (Boston, MA - #361 overall, #83 SF) 3*
                          5. C.J. Harrington 6'9 214 (Chicago, IL - #204 overall, #31 PF) 3*

This is one of the finest classes in the nation as the class came in ranked in the top 10. The class in ranked #10 according to 2khoops.com. This is by far Coach Frizzell's best recruiting class as this is the first time he has cracked the top 75. If Princeton can continue to land these type of classes and recruits, they'll be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised by recruiting.

I don't think the folks back in Princeton need to be thinking National Championship because they'll be let down. How about the Sweet Sixteen? We could definitely realistically accomplish that, maybe even an Elite Eight if things go perfectly.

                                The Replacements

The 2012 recruiting class became quite possibly the best recruiting class in the past 100 years for Princeton today as the Tigers rallied late to get a key pickup in four-star center Cassiand Swift on the final day of recruiting. Swift is already considered to be the best post player in the Ivy League as a freshman. His effectiveness at scoring down low in the post and his intimidating size will have opponents searching for answers all day long. Swift was the #1 ranked center of the 2012 class and the 31st ranked player overall. Swift is projected to be a first-round draft pick when he leaves as there is considerable buzz around his NBA potential.

Swift was not the only gem in this recruiting class, however, as the Tigers picked up their first All-American in Coach Frizzell's tenure in point guard Wesley French. French was the Mr. Basketball of the state of Maryland and was rated a five-star prospect. French will redshirt this year, however, because Coach Frizzell does not want to waste a year of eligibility on French since Reynold Gross is the starting point guard.

The Tigers also garnered a key committment in C.J. Harrington, who will replace the departed Martin Sow at power forward. Harrington will look to have a breakout year down low as will Cassiand Swift. Harrington comes in ranked as the 31st best power forward of the class.

Also joining them are Benjamin McBridle and Kirby Guzman. McBridle looks to be a solid shooting guard while Guzman will serve as the third string small forward behing Lalugba and Michaud. Tremmell Christensen joins the active roster after redshirting last season. He is a shooting guard, but his size gives him the option to play small forward or even power forward if he has to.

                                Recruiting News

After Princeton's massive recruiting class last year, Coach Frizzell has only two scholarships to hand out this year. Says Lee Williamson of 2khoops.com, "Coach Frizzell is looking for quality of quantity this year, though he is not targeting any gems this year. That is not to say he is not targeting some really solid prospects, but there are no Wesley Frenches or Cassiand Swifts this year from what I can tell. Coach Frizzell just needs a solid class this year and I think he'll get that." Below are the players Coach Frizzell is currently targeting.

                                Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today to discuss the upcoming season as his team prepares to head out west to Boise, Idaho to take on the Broncos. "We really have high hopes for this season. I really think this may be our year to find a way to get past the first couple rounds and make it back to the Sweet Sixteen or even the Elite Eight if things go perfectly. I don't want to get the fans' expectations too high, but the sky is the limit with this team. We have a whole lot of talent. We may not have as much talent as the UNCs and Dukes of the world, but we still have plenty and will look to be making an impact come tournament time."
