Princeton Pitches a Defensive Masterpiece to The Citadel
12/16 vs. The Citadel
Final: 81-36
"Our defense was absolutely amazing tonight. We closed out on The Citadel's shooters and held them to only 25% shooting and only 7% shooting from beyond the arc where they shot 2-29. I hope to see more of this in future games," commented Coach Frizzell. Timon Michaud came off the bench for an extended period of time due to the blowout and impressed as he tallied 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Renardo Rodriguez scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Cedric Tchana (12 points, 3 assists) and Ferdinand Djordic (11 points, 8 rebounds) also provided a solid dose of offense for the Tigers. Though Wendell Lalugba (6 points, 3 rebounds) and Martin Sow (6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks) were mostly held at bay on the offensive side of the ball, the team's spectacular defensive effort propelled the Tigers to their seventh win of the season.
Princeton is now 7-2.

Mid-Major Top 5 News
After smashing The Citadel, Coach Frizzell's Princeton Tigers move up 1 spot in the latest mid-major top 25 poll as they land in the 5th slot posting a 7-2 record. "We hope to remain here for a long time," stated Coach Frizzell after he learned of the news.

Princeton Drops Game Against East Tennessee State On Christmas
12/25 @ East Tennessee State
Final: 80-83
The Princeton Tigers did not get a very good Christmas present today as they fell on the road against East Tennessee State by 3 points. Coach Frizzell explained, "East Tennessee State is a very good team. They put up quite a fight and we really suffered a let down. It was a tough environment to play in and we dropped the ball, but we'll bounce back." All of Princeton's starters managed to get into double-figures in the game. Wendell Lalugba led all scorers with 23 points. He also tallied 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. Renardo Rodriguez (16 points) and Cedric Tchana (10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) paced the offense from the 2 guard positions while Martin Sow (11 points, 7 rebounds) and Ferdinand Djordic (10 points, 10 rebounds) worked hard down low, but it was not enough as Princeton missed the buzzer-beater to tie the game and losses their third game of the season.
Princeton is now 7-3.

Mid-Major Top 15 News
After losing a tough game on the road to East Tennessee State, Princeton fell 7 spots in the latest mid-major top 25 poll to the 12th slot. After the win, East Tennessee State moved up to #23 in the poll. Penn continues to impress as they shot up to #4 in the latest poll after crushing Elon 98-68 and Virginia Tech 91-63. "Penn looks really good," stated Coach Frizzell after seeing that they beat the Hokies by 28 points.

Princeton Falls in Winston-Salem
12/29 @ Wake Forest
Final: 65-85
This may not be the Wake Forest of earlier days as the Demon Deacons were only 4-7 coming into the game, but it is still no easy task to go into Winston-Salem and win. They showed Princeton how hard it was today as the Demon Deacons dominated Princeton and won by a wide margin. Princeton struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball. Cedric Tchana (20 points, 2 assists) and Wendell Lalugba (15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) were the only players to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball as no one else showed up for the game it seemed. "This is a tough loss to take, but we return home to New Jersey for our next game, so I am confident that we can emerge from this slump," stated Coach Frizzell.
Princeton is now 7-4.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press Conference
After dropping back-to-back games on the road to East Tennessee State and Wake Forest, Coach Frizzell was asked if he thought the team could still bounce back. "Of course we can. We lost 2 games on the road to 2 teams that are pretty good. It's hard to win on the road. Our next 3 games are at home, so I think we can bounce back in those 3 as we move towards conference play."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princeton Overcomes CSU Bakersfield
1/1 vs. CSU Bakersfield
Final: 82-71
CSU Bakersfield traveled to New Jersey all the way from Bakersfield, California for this game, so it was clear Princeton had the advantage as CSU Bakersfield only had about 10 fans that showed up for the game to root for the away team. Princeton got off to a slow start, but was able to pull away in the second half as the Tigers won the game by 11 points to end their 2 game losing streak. "We didn't play great, but we won. We now have momentum back on our side, so we should play better in future ball games," commented Coach Frizzell. Wendell Lalugba went 4-6 from downtown and ended the game with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. Renardo Rodriguez also had an impressive game as he tallied 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Martin Sow (16 points, 8 rebounds) and Ferdinand Djordic (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks) both had impressive games down low as they controlled the flow of the offense.
Princeton is now 8-4.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press Conference
After bouncing back with a win over CSU Bakersfield, Coach Frizzell was asked how he felt his team would play in their final 3 games of their non-conference schedule, all against teams for the Atlantic 10 Conference. "It's going to be tough. We face Massachusetts (10-3) in the first game at home. Then we face Saint Joseph's (8-5) at home before traveling to Philadelphia to face off against the Temple Owls (10-4). The teams have a combined record of 28-12, so it will be difficult. Luckily, the first 2 games are at home, so we should be able to make a game out of them if we can't beat Massachusetts or Saint Joesph's. Temple looks like an especially hard game as we must play the Owls on the road, but hopefully we can do well and go into Ivy League play with momentum on our side. We definitely don't want to drop all 3 of these games or we could be in big trouble."Comment

Princeton Beats Massachusetts by 10
1/11 vs. Massachusetts
Final: 76-66
Princeton came out strong early, building a 46-24 halftime lead. Massachusetts would have a strong second half to bring them to within 10 points as time expired, but it was not enough as Princeton picked up their ninth win of the season to improve to 9-4. Martin Sow led the way with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Ferdinand Djrordic tacked on 11 points and 3 rebounds down low. Wendell Lalugba struggled to only 9 points on 3-8 shooting, but Renardo Rodriguez stepped up to deliver 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. "We played a very nice game tonight. We let up a bit in the second half, but it that was alright as our 22 point halftime lead gave us a huge cushion and allowed us to grab the victory," stated Coach Frizzell.
Princeton improves to 9-4.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Strong Second Half Leads Saint Joseph's Past Princeton
1/15 vs. Saint Joseph's
Final: 70-79
After building a 34-29 halftime lead, the Princeton Tigers fell apart in the second half as they were outscored by 14 points in the final period of play giving Saint Joseph's a 9 point victory. Coach Frizzell explained, "We came out early and played well again against a very good Saint Joseph's team, but we could keep up our level of play for a full 40 minutes and we fell because of it. It is disappointing to have a bad second half, but we can take away from this game how good we played in the first half and build on it for future ballgames." Renardo Rodriguez led the way with 22 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Wendell Lalugba only went 1-5 from downtown, but did well inside the three point arc where he was 5-8 as he tallied 15 points and 4 rebounds. Cedric Tchana also struggled from the perimeter, but still managed 9 points in the loss.
Princeton is now 9-5.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mid-Major Top 25 News
After climbing to as high as #5 in the mid-major top 25 poll earlier this season, Princeton has now dropped all the way to #21 in the latest poll after splitting the week with a win to Massachusetts and a loss against Saint Joseph's. Penn is still represented in the top 10 of the mid-major poll as they come in ranked #10 sporting an 11-3 record.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second Half Collapse Leads to Temple Victory
1/19 @ Temple
Final: 75-85
Princeton looked absolutely dominant in the first half as the Princeton Tigers were manhandling the Temple Owls in Philadelphia by a score of 41-23 at halftime. However, Temple came out with a renewed passion in the second half while Princeton looked like they felt they had already won the game. This let Temple come storming back as they would eventually sink their free throws to go on to win by 10 points. Coach Frizzell muttered, "That was an embarrassing second half. We let them score 62 points for crying out loud! That was ridiculous. It was a shame to build such a big lead only to see it melt away, but that is what has happened in our last 2 games and we must address this issue." Wendell Lalugba battled foul trouble for much of the game, but still managed a fine game as he tallied 23 points and 4 assists. Martin Sow also had a good game as he totaled 20 points and 6 rebounds. Cedric Tchana fouled out with 5 minutes left, but still managed to tally 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Renardo Rodriguez did not have a good shooting day as he only went 1-6 from the field, but still managed to pick up 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in the loss.
Princeton finishes off non-conference play 9-6.

"We've been going through a bit of a rough stretch lately, but I think we'll be fine once conference play begins later this week," commented Coach Frizzell. Penn remained idle this week as they still remain ranked 10th with a 12-3 record.

Princeton Tops Cornell
1/28 vs. Cornell
Final: 67-41
"We played some fantastic defense tonight and that was the obvious key to the win," beamed Coach Frizzell after his team destroyed Cornell to open up Ivy League Conference play. Princeton's offense was not superb, but Princeton was phenomenal on the defensive side of the ball where they allowed Cornell to shoot only 33%. Cornell did not have one player that scored in double-figures. Wendell Lalugba was the game's leading scorer as he tallied 17 points and went 3-4 from beyond the arc. Renardo Rodriguez (13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Cedric Tchana (11 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) both paced the Tigers in the big win over the Big Red.
Princeton is now 10-6 (1-0).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princeton Outscores Yale
1/29 vs. Yale
Final: 84-62
A day after Princeton only allowed 41 points to Cornell as their defense was spectacular, Princeton's offense came out and spotted 84 points on a 9-7 Yale squad that had a good amount of talent. "We really executed well offensively and that was the key to the win," explained Coach Frizzell. Coach Frizzell knew Wendell Lalugba had been struggling shooting from beyond the arc so far this season, so he gave Lalugba a lot of pick-and-rolls and freed him open for pull-up jumpers from three and some mid-range J's. Lalugba responded well as he nailed 3 three pointers and scored 25 points in the game. Cedric Tchana also had a big game as he, likewise, nailed 3 threes and ended with 15 points and 3 steals on 6-10 shooting.
Princeton is now 11-6 (2-0).

Mid-Major Top 25 News
Even after blowing out the 2 teams they faced this week, Princeton dropped out of the latest mid-major top 25 poll. "I am not sure why we dropped out given that we dominated this past week, but I don't like to concern myself with polls. I am just glad we are still perfect in conference play," stated Coach Frizzell. Meanwhile, Penn continued to win as they are now 14-3 and are ranked #4 in the mid-major poll. Penn has an RPI of 76 while Princeton's RPI sits at 111.Comment

Tigers Win Third in a Row
2/4 @ Columbia
Final: 68-57
Princeton once again had a huge first half as the Tigers built a 15 point halftime lead over the Lions as the score at the end of the first period was 35-20. In the second half, Columbia made a couple of runs to get within 6 points, but could not complete the comeback as the Lions fell by 11 points at home. "We played very well tonight. Wendell (Lalugba) had a fine game and got us through some rough stretches in the second half and was key in the win," commented Coach Frizzell. Wendell Lalugba scored 21 points in the game in addition to 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Martin Sow was a force down low as he tallied 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals while Renardo Rodriguez paced the offense with 10 points. Backup point guard Marin Collins came off the bench to score a career-high 9 points. He also recorded 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Princeton is now 12-6 (3-0).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princeton Sails Past Penn
2/5 @ Penn
Final: 86-55
In what was supposed to be Princeton's toughest game of their Ivy League conference schedule, Princeton blew away the Penn Quakers. Penn had a 15-3 record, was ranked 4th in the mid-major poll, and had some impressive wins including a 72-69 win over South Florida and a 91-63 smacking of Virginia Tech. However, Princeton was all over Penn from the start as the Tigers built a 17-7 lead in the first 5 minutes and cruised to a massive 48-23 halftime advantage. Princeton cruised in the second half with the backups getting playing time as the Tigers won by an impressive 31 points. Coach Frizzell commented, "We played amazingly tonight and I was proud of how we played. We played phenomenal defense and were also equally good on the offensive end. I think we showed everyone that we are the best team in the Ivy League. It's not easy to go into Penn's building and come away with a 31 point victory." Cedric Tchana nailed 3 early three pointers to give Princeton the early lead and ended 5-7 from downtown in the game. He scored 19 points. Timon Michaud came off the bench to deliver 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals as he had a great all around game. Diamond Zahn recorded a career-high 10 points in the game. Marin Collins (8 points, 3 steals) and Damien Allen (9 points, 8 rebounds) also delivered good games off the bench in the blowout.
Princeton is now 13-6 (4-0).

Mid-Major Top 15 News
Apparently the pollsters took notice of Princeton's 31 point victory over Penn because the Princeton Tigers went from unranked in the poll last week to 11th this week. "We are happy to be back in the poll because I feel we deserve to be ranked where we are," commented Coach Frizzell. Penn fell to 10th with the loss to Princeton as they now own a 15-4 record. Princeton's RPI also got a huge boost as their RPI skyrocketed to 65. Just last week it sat at 111.Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Yes, the Ivy League is definitely weaker than our out-of-conference schedule. I figured we would lose a few games in conference when we started conference play with a 9-6 overall record, but now that I have blown out my opponent in just about every Ivy League game I have played, I have this feeling that I really could go undefeated. We shall see, because I could easily fall flat on my face (which I nearly did, update of 3 games tonight probably).Comment

Princeton Blows Dartmouth Out of the Building
2/8 vs. Dartmouth
Final: 70-45
Another game, another win for the Princeton Tigers who have now won their fifth straight game. "We have been playing phenomenal basketball as of late and it has been showing on the scoreboard," commented Coach Frizzell. Only 2 Tigers got into double-figures in the game, but a balanced offense combined with a fantastic defensive effort led to the easy win for the Tigers. Cedric Tchana led the way with a strong performance as he nailed 3 three pointers en route to 13 points. Wendell Lalugba also had a nice game as he tallied 11 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Marin Collins (8 points) and Damien Allen (8 points, 13 rebounds) both came off the bench in the second half for solid performances as well.
Princeton is now 14-6 (5-0).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princeton Overcomes Horrible First Half to Grab Sixth Straight Victory
2/11 vs. Brown
Final: 80-71
Brown was picked to finish second in the Ivy League before the season began, but had been slipping as of late as the Bears came into the game only sporting a 9-11 record. However, Brown still had plenty of talent and they showed it tonight as they were up 42-30 at halftime before collapsing in the second half as Princeton came back for the big win. "Props to Brown tonight. They have a very good basketball team. Their record may not be that great, but they played their hearts out and nearly upset us at Jadwin Gym. We were a little sloppy in the first half, but we were able to recover in the second half for the win," explained Coach Frizzell. Renardo Rodriguez was pivotal in the comeback as he scored 25 points in the game. "Renardo was key in the win and we could not have won this game without him," beamed Coach Frizzell. Rodriguez also tallied 6 assists and 4 steals to go along with his 25 points. Wendell Lalugba (17 points, 4 rebounds) and Martin Sow (10 points, 9 rebounds) both had good performances as well while Marin Collins came off the bench to deliver big minutes as he poured in 12 points for the Tigers.
Princeton is now 15-6 (6-0).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tigers Win Seventh Straight Game
2/12 vs. Harvard
Final: 91-67
"We played great on both sides of the ball tonight and were able to grab the easy victory," stated Coach Frizzell. Princeton was up 48-28 after the first half ended and was shooting lights out at 61%. Coach Frizzell brought in the backups in the second half, as has become customary as of late with all the blowouts, and cruised to the easy win. Marin Collins had his second straight game of scoring more than 12 points as the backup point guard tallied a career-high 21 points on 8-11 shooting in the game. He also nailed 3-4 from downtown. "Marin has been catching fire as of late. He has really been working on his shot and is now hitting three pointers with consistency which has really opened up the rest of his game. He is also very quick and should be a contributor here at Princeton for years to come," stated Coach Frizzell. Cedric Tchana (18 points) and Wendell Lalugba (12 points, 7 rebounds) both had good games too. Senior power forward Korrel Gomez even came out to score a career-high 9 points in the game as he got his mid-range jumper to fall.
Princeton is now 16-6 (7-0).

Press Conference
After going a perfect 7-0 as we come to the halfway point of the Ivy League conference schedule, Coach Frizzell was asked about what he felt were the keys to his team thus far. "We have just been playing great basketball. We overcame some adversity versus Brown, so we have the capability to fall behind and to come back on teams. We are certainly not invincible and if we are caught off guard we could easily drop a few ballgames. That is why I have been telling my team over and over to take nothing for granted because we must always try our best and not drop an easy game or 2. They have responded well and I am proud of our performance on both ends of the floor.
Coach Frizzell was also asked about whether he thought his team would complete the Ivy League conference schedule undefeated. "I don't want to come out and say we will, but we certainly could, especially if we continue to play very well as we have been doing so far. As long as we play our best, we should not lose as we seem to have the most talented team by far in our conference. That does not mean we don't have to try though."Last edited by superjames1992; 06-02-2008, 10:46 PM.Comment

Princeton Slips Past Yale
2/18 @ Yale
Final: 84-79 OT
After falling behind early in the game, Princeton trailed by 6 points at halftime as the Yale Bulldogs surprisingly led 35-29 at the break. Princeton was able to come back in the second half and a last-second buzzer-beater by Wendell Lalugba sent the game to overtime. In the extra period Princeton dominated right from the start as Princeton outscored Yale 13-8 in overtime to go on to win their eighth straight game by a final score of 84-79. The bench was rather lackluster in the game, but all of Princeton's starters came out to play well. Wendell Lalugba scored a game-high 25 points. He went 5-9 from three point range and also added 5 rebounds. Renardo Rodriguez totaled 7 assists in the game in addition to 14 points while Cedric Tchana scored another 15 points. Martin Sow (8 points, 5 rebounds) played decently while Ferdinand Djordic (12 points, 11 rebounds) racked up a double-double. Coach Frizzell commented, "We did not come out to play early, but we got it together in the later stages of the game and played well in overtime. We need to play better than this, but we were on the road and road games are never easy to win no matter who you are facing."
Princeton is now 17-6 (8-0).

Tigers Make It Nine Straight
2/19 @ Cornell
Final: 60-49
"I must give Cornell a lot of credit for their performance tonight. They came out and played well and really limited us on the offensive side of the ball as we only scored 60 points. However, we buckled up on the defensive end and were able to hold them to a mere 49 points which gave us the victory," explained Coach Frizzell. Wendell Lalugba was the game's leading scorer as he tallied 16 points and 6 rebounds. Martin Sow also had a good game down low as he just missed a double-double as he got 10 points and 9 rebounds in the low scoring victory for the Tigers.
Princeton is now 18-6 (9-0).

With the 2-0 record last week, Princeton slides up 4 places as the Tigers find themselves ranked 5th and back in the top 5 of the poll after dropping all the way out of the mid-major top 25 poll only a few weeks ago. Gonzaga continues to stand atop the poll as they have been #1 all season long.

Tigers Make It Ten in a Row
2/25 @ Harvard
Final: 74-57
Another game, another win. This has become commonplace for the Princeton Tigers as they now have tallied their tenth win in a row to move to 19-6 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference. "We have been playing phenomenal basketball and this game was no different," commented Coach Frizzell. Princeton grabbed a 38-19 halftime lead and Coach Frizzell was able to rest his backups in the second half to cruise to yet another victory. Cedric Tchana had a phenomenal game as he tallied 20 points and 4 rebounds off of 7-7 shooting and 5-5 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Renardo Rodriguez also had a good game as he scored 14 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Martin Sow tallied 10 points and 4 rebounds while Wendell Lalugba struggled getting off a clean shot as he only scored 5 points in the game off of 1-3 shooting.
Princeton is now 19-6 (10-0).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brown Strikes Back
2/26 @ Brown
Final: 51-62
After nearly falling to the Brown Bears earlier this season at home, the Princeton Tigers had to now take on the Bears on the road. "We knew it would not be easy, but we did not expect Brown to come out with such passion, especially on the defensive side of the ball where we only scored 51 points," commented Coach Frizzell. Neither team shot well, but Princeton only shot 37% and turned the ball over 10 costly times. Also, Princeton only shot a miserable 3-9 from the foul line, which equates to a measly 33%. Princeton's starters played well, but the bench only scored 3 points in the game, all of which came off of a Timon Michaud three pointer in the first half. Overall, the bench shot 1-9 from the floor. Renardo Rodriguez (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals) and Cedric Tchana (10 points) both played well as did Wendell Lalugba (16 points, 3 rebounds) and Martin Sow (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), but it was not enough as the rest of the team scored only 3 points combined. In fact, Ferdinand Djordic, Princeton's starting center, was held scoreless on 0-5 shooting, so besides the 4 starters who scored, the rest of the team shot a horrific 1-14 overall.
Princeton is now 19-7 (10-1).

Final: 92-46
"We must have their number!" exclaimed Coach Frizzell after his team beat Penn, who was 19-6 coming into the game, by a startling 46 points as his team scored twice the points Penn did in the 92-46 victory. This game featured the largest margin of victory of Coach Frizzell's coaching career. Princeton blew out Penn in their first meeting of the year on the road by a score of 86-55, but this win was even larger. With the win, the Princeton Tigers also clinch the Ivy League Title for the third year in a row. Even if Princeton loses its final 2 games, they will still get the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. "I am proud of what we have done all year and I can't wait for the tournament to start. This team really has a lot of talent and we have shown that in conference play with the exception of the Brown game," beamed Coach Frizzell. Martin Sow led the way with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals as he shot 9-11 from the floor. Ferdinand Djordic teamed up with Sow down low to tally 12 points and 8 rebounds. Wendell Lalugba contributed 17 points and 3 rebounds while Renardo Rodriguez totaled 15 points and 4 rebounds. Marin Collins continued to show his worth off the bench as he tallied 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in the blowout at home.
Princeton is now 20-7 (11-1).

Princeton Blows out Columbia on Senior Night
3/5 vs. Columbia
Final: 71-46
Columbia came out to play tonight as the Lions had the Tigers on their heels throughout the first half as Princeton only held a slim 3 point lead at the break with the score 33-30. However, Princeton would use a huge run early in the second half to break the game wide open as the Tigers outscored the Lions 38-16 in the second half to win the game 71-46. Coach Frizzell commented, "I am really glad we won this game for our lone senior Korrel Gomez. We did not play very good in the first half, but came out with an added fire in the second half and gave our fans quite a show in our final home game this season." Korrel Gomez, the team's only senior, tallied 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal in his final game at home of his career. Renardo Rodriguez's ability to find the open man propelled the team in the second half as Rodriguez tallied 10 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals in the game. Cedric Tchana got some open looks from three and he converted as he went 3-5 from downtown in his 17 point effort. He also recorded 4 assists and 4 steals. Wendell Lalugba tacked on another 17 points in the victory.
Princeton is now 21-7 (12-1).

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
PU looks strong heading into the "Big Dance". Have you looked at the Bracketology to see who could be lining up to play the Tigers in the first round?
That 15 RPI is also very strong for the Ivy League. If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
We were as high as a #7 seed in bracketology, but after the loss to Brown, we were dropped back down to a #10 seed. Now we are back up to a #9 seed. As of right now, we are slotted to play South Carolina.Comment
