    Cylcone Heaven

    10/23 vs. Iowa State

    Great Alaska Shootout - Semifinals

    Final: 71-73

The 4-0 Iowa State Cyclones continued their perfect season today with a huge win over Princeton in the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout. Princeton led 33-28 at halftime, but let the lead slip away and trailed by six points with just four minutes remaining. Princeton mounted a comeback and was down by just two points with the ball and 10 seconds left. A struggling Wendell Lalugba (15 points, 5 rebounds, 6-15 FG) came out beyond the arc and took a three which clanked off the rim as time expired. The shot would have won the game, but it was missed. Lalugba was only 3-11 from downtown. However, despite the loss, Cassiand Swift continued his dominance as he scored 24 points and snatched 17 rebounds, both career-highs. "Cassiand is a great player and he has made a huge difference to our team this year. He gives us a dominating inside presence we never really had in the past. Unforunately, we weren't able to come away with a win tonight, but we can't get caught up in it and we must move on," said Coach Frizzell. Reynold Gross (10 points, 7 assists) and C.J. Harrington (8 points, 6 rebounds) also played well in the loss to Iowa State.

    Princeton is now 5-2.

Great Alaska Shotout - Third Place Game

"We bounced back really well from our loss yesterday to Iowa State and didn't let the loss affect us at all in this one," beamed Coach Frizzell. Reynold Gross was the leading scorer as he scored 18 points. Cassiand Swift tallied 16 points and 14 rebounds while Wendell Lalugba bounced back from a couple of subpar games for 14 points. Timon Michaud (8 points, 4 rebounds) and Benjamin McBridle (6 points) made contributions off the bench in the 28 point blowout.

    Princeton is now 6-2.

    Mid-Major Top 15 News

After placing third in the annual Great Alaska Shootout, the Princeton Tigers are now 6-2 and are #13 in this week's mid-major top 25 poll. Gonzaga (5-0) still leads the poll with Miami (OH) (5-0) and Western Kentucky (3-0) trailing right behind them.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today to discuss the season so far. "We have been played pretty well thus far. Obviously, the losses to Gonzaga and Iowa State hurt, but both were out West, so it's not like we lost at home or anything. We are playing well and if we can just work out a few kinks, we will be a great team."

Coach Frizzell was asked to describe how Cassiand Swift, the sensational freshman center, has played so far. "Obviously, he has played absolutely wonderfully. He has been the most valuable player on the team this year and that's saying something considering we have guys like Wendell Lalugba and Reynold Gross here in Princeton. Cassiand is averaging 18 points and 12.5 rebounds per game so far. It doesn't get much better than that."

Coming up for the Princeton Tigers are back-to-back games against West Virginia in Morgantown and Albany in Princeton before taking on Colgate at home. Following those three games, Princeton will compete in the Hawaiian Island Classic down in Hawaii.

              Princeton Overwhelms West Virginia

              11/26 @ West Virginia

              Final: 84-71

"This is a huge win for us!" Coach Frizzell exclaimed following his Princeton team's win over the 3-2 West Virginia Mountaineers, a team some claim as Coach Frizzell's dream school. "Huggins' team may be a bit down this year, but this was a huge win for us after losing to the first power conference school in Iowa State." Princeton got off to a fast start and built a 49-38 halftime lead. Princeton led throughout the second half and came away with a 13 point victory. All five of Princeton's starters got into double figures in a game, a first for this team as the team was about as balanced as possible. Reynold Gross was the leading scorer with 17 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Cedric Tchana also got into double figures with 10 points and 3 assists. Wendlel Lalugba added 15 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals while Cassiand Swift had another huge game down low with 15 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 assists. C.J Harrington recorded a career-high 14 points and 5 rebounds in the win.

              Princeton is now 7-2.
              -------------------------------------------------------------------------
              Princeton Rolls Over Albany

              11/27 vs. Albany

              Final: 86-48

Princeton returned home and put on quite a show against a struggling Albany team as Princeton easily came away with a 38 point victory. Cassiand Swift had a huge game as usual as he tallied 14 points and 16 rebounds. Reynold Gross (13 points, 4 assists) had a good game while Timon Michaud came off the bench to deliver 13 points and 6 rebounds. "We just came out ready to play and played quite well," commented Coach Frizzell. One, and perhaps the only, concerning statistic is Princeton's three point shooting. Princeton only made 4 of 19 three point attempts in this one, a far cry for a Princeton team that averages nearly 39% from three point land.

              Princeton is now 8-2.

Princeton Struggles Early, but Wins Fourth Straight

              12/1 vs. Colgate

              Final: 78-59

"We got off to a bad start, but we managed to pull away in the second half to come away with a solid victory," explained Coach Frizzell about his team's performance. "We can't do this against better teams, but I guess we picked the right team to play sluggishly against." Princeton got off to a horrible start as the Tigers were behind much of the first half before pulling away to a 37-28 halftime advantage. However, Colgate made an early run in the second half as they pulled within two points of Princeton at one point. However, Coach Frizzell rallied the troops and Princeton was able to pull away to a 78-59 victory. Cassiand Swift got into a foul trouble in the first half and had a horrible day by his standards and the freshman center only accumulated 6 points and 9 rebounds. However, others stepped up as Reynold Gross (15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), Cedric Tchana (13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists), and Wendell Lalugba (17 points, 4 rebounds) all had big second halves to help Princeton pull away after a horrible start.

              Princeton is now 9-2.

              Recruiting News

12/9 - Last Day of Fall Signing Period

Lee Williamson of 2khoops.com has recently learned the four star recruit Romain Bright has signed with the Princeton Tigers. Bright, a small forward, is a local product out of Brooklyn, New York and was the 38th ranked recruit of the 2013 recruiting class and the seventh ranked small forward. Williamson stated, "Coach Frizzell seems to have a way to attract small forwards to his program. I guess that's what having a guy like Wendell Lalugba will do for you. Now that other recruits have seen how small forwards can thrive in his offense, others want to jump on board and take part. Bright looks to be a great addition to a Princeton team that will be missing Wendell Lalguba next year. Bright may even take the starting role at small forward." Here is a look at Bright.

              1. Romain Bright 6'6 218 (Brooklyn, NY - #38 overall, #7 SF) 4*

Coach Frizzell has one more scholarship to offer and has it narrowed down to three men. Williamson stated, "I think Coach Frizzell really wants Denis Graham, a three star junior college power forward out of Bronx, New York, since this team could really use a backup low post player. Right now there is only one true low post man that is used as a backup, and that is Francis Waleskoski, who in no way should be getting serious time on a quality team like Princeton. However, due to the lack of depth down low, Princeton has had to use him far more than they would probably like." Below is information about the three recruits which Coach Frizzell is still pursuing for the spring signing period.

              1. Denis Graham 6'8 229 (Bronx, NY - NR overall, NR PF) 3* JUCO
              2. Clyde Diener 6'2 188 (Bronx, NY - #150 overall, #49 PG) 3*
              3. Chester Barlett 6'3 177 (Pittsburgh, PA - #242 overall, #65 SG) 3*

Wendell Lalugba scored 22 points in the game as he was the only other Tiger to get into double-figured in scoring. "We didn't have a really balanced effort out there today and played pretty sloppily, but we were still able to get it done," commented Coach Frizzell.

                Princeton is now 10-2.

Wendell Lalugba (20 points, 3 rebounds) led the team in scoring while Cassiand Swift (10 points, 11 rebounds) talled yet another double-double. Reynold Gross scored 13 points while Benjamin McBridle (14 points) came off the bench to go 6/6 overall and 2/2 from three point range. 12/22 vs. Kent State

                Hawaiian Classic - Championship Game

                Final: 94-75

Princeton came out weakly in a rematch with the same team which they blew out 86-52 six weeks ago at home, but got the job done as the Tigers walked away with a season-high 94 points in a 94-75 win over Kent State. This is Princeton's first tournament win under Coach Frizzell. "It feels nice to finally win a tournament. We've done well in them over the past few years, but we could never quite close the deal and always came up short. This year we put up a nice three game stretch to come away with a huge win and a huge confidence builder," said Coach Frizzell. Cassiand Swift recorded a career-high 20 rebounds and 24 points in an absolutely dominating performance. Wendell Lalugba added 20 points and 4 assists while Reynold Gross (15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) had a solid performance as did Cedric Tchana (15 points, 3 rebounds).

                Princeton is now 12-2.

Thanks. It's really nice to have Swift. In the past, I was smothered by the bigs of the majors and powerhouses, but now this should help greatly and I will have a much better chance to advance in the NCAA Tournament.

I think that it's time for Coach Frizzell to find a new challenge considering his great success at PU. Any thoughts on this, Coach?

There's definitely been some rumors surfacing on campus that Coach Frizzell may be in search for a job from the Atlantic Ten or the Missouri Valley Conference this coming season. Rumors are that he's been contacting the schools' presidents and athletic directors and asking them if the coaching position might be opening up there. We can't confirm this story at this time, however. And of course if the WVU job opens up, that would also be tempting to him I'm sure.

Coach Frizzell won't respond to the allegations, though, simply responding, "I'm here to talk about this team, right now, and not about any future endeavors I might have. Right now, I'm concentrating on winning the rest of our games and making a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament.

Seriously, though, I am definitely considering taking a job in the A-10 or MVC if the WVU job doesn't open up. The thing is, I'll leave a lot of good players behind at Princeton that I've become attached too, so I'll definitely have to think it through quite a bit and contemplate if I do in fact decide to leave. I'm not going to go to just any school.

I'm just going to take this and ask what schools you would like me to look at going to if the position opens up. I may or may not leave next year, but I will definitely consider it.

I would like to stay at the mid-major level since I think it's kind of neat not being in the power conferences, unless I can get the WVU job. I'd really probably like to get in the Atlantic 10 or the Missouri Valley, though I'd look at Manhattan or Marshall if they opened up as well.

Again, it's certainly not a sure thing that I'll leave as I've grown so attached to the players. I hate leaving the players behind...

You know me I am open to seeing you at any school, but I would love to see you come out west. Maybe a WCC school or MWC if they open up.
