I finally played the game against USF earlier today. I'll post the recap tonight.

        vs.
        (6) West Virginia (24-11) vs. (3) San Francisco (29-7)
        St. Pete Times Forum
        St. Petersburg, FL
        March 22nd, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (24-11) emerged victorious this afternoon over the San Francisco Dons (29-7) 91-77 in an overtime thriller in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Coach Frizzell, in his second matchup against his old team thus far this year, improved to 2-0 against the Dons in his career.

West Virginia led for the majority of the game in large part due to Justino Whitworth's hot shooting, particularly in the first half. Whitworth was instrumental in giving the Mountaineers the overtime victory this afternoon, as he hit eight three-pointers and scored 32 points. However, he missed a shot at the end of regulation which would have won the game. Instead, the game was sent to overtime with the score at 71 apiece.

Whitworth was not necessarily spectacular in the overtime period, but Marquel Proffitt was as he scored 14 of WVU's 20 overtime points as West Virginia outscored the Dons 20-to-6 in the extra period to claim a 14-point victory.

Proffitt undoubtedly had the best game by far of his career this afternoon. The seven-foot sophomore scored career-highs in points and rebounds as he totaled a startling 36 points, 20 rebounds, and 3 blocks against the Dons.

"He definitely stepped up to the challenge today," said Coach Frizzell after the game. "He was amazing tonight, both scoring the ball and hitting the boards. He simply couldn't be stopped in the overtime period and you have to love that. He wasn't going to let this team lose."

West Virginia will go up against fellow Big East foe Cincinnati (28-8) in their Sweet Sixteen matchup. The Mountaineers defeated the Bearcats 94-72 in their only regular season matchup, but Cincinnati got the last laugh as they dispatched the Mountaineers 100-97 in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals. Now the two teams will have a chance to settle the score on the big stage with an Elite Eight bid on the line.

If the Mountaineers beat Cincinnati, they will take on either Duke (29-3) or Temple (28-5) with a chance at the Final Four on the line.

Very nice win. Upset city in the west and midwest brackets.

Heads up - you switched wvu and usf in the box score, saying you lost.

Yeah, there were a lot of upsets this round. Upsets were few and far between in the first round, but there were plenty this round.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, we had Pittsburgh's 82-44 victory over Indiana and Ohio State's 121-67 victory over Washington.

Congrats in pulling out the win. Sad to see Owen Kole and M. Owen struggle without Coach Frizzell at the helm. Did you ever think Proffitt was capable of having such a huge game.

Solid win over your old squad. Way to show the Dons the real reason for their past success.

Proffitt is definitely very good. I don't know if I really expected him to ever have 36 points and 20 rebounds in a single game, but I'll always take that performance because we needed every single bit of it to win in overtime!

Well, they're still a very good team (as is Princeton), but perhaps they won't be as good without me at the helm.

Glad to hear Princeton is still doing well too. In my legacy St. Francis and Holy Cross (my first two teams) are still above average in their conferences, but nothing great.

Yeah, Princeton was an 88 OVR this year (the same as my WVU team). Typically, an 88 OVR would have probably gotten them a better record, but they underachieved a bit this season, I think. Still, though, they've won the Ivy League every year since I left (four straight seasons), so they're continuing on the success I built there, although they haven't gotten past the first round of the NCAA Tournament, I don't believe.

Sorry I haven't gotten around to updating this. I actually played my Sweet Sixteen match against Cincinnati a few days ago, but life has been hectic lately with graduation, family, and such, so I haven't gotten around to updating this.

I'm majoring in meteorology at NC State next year. WVU doesn't offer a meteorology degree or I would have went there, but oh well.
