Man I'm not around for a few days and you up and get your dream job. Congrats man, too bad you still can't win the big one, but let's be honest it will probably be sweeter at WVU then anywhere. Seems so far your WVU team seems to go as Justino Whithworth, G goes. I know you lost your last game and he played well, but I think you have a good young player on your hands there. Since you've already talked about not being positive about staying at WVU for the remainder, do you think after you get a NC or two under your belt you might head back to Princeton?

Whitworth is an excellent three-point shooter. I would work him into the starting lineup to get him more minutes, but there just isn't any room unless I wanted to take Allan Pena in there, but I like him in there for rebounding (6'8" SF) and his driving ability.

I'm not necessarily planning on heading back to Princeton, but I'll never say that I won't go back. I'd definitely like to win a National Championship at WVU (hopefully multiple ones), but I'm 0-for-12 in that regard so far in my career, so we'll see. Of course, that will make it much more meaningful when/if I finally do win one.

I just realized that I've been calling my starting center Marquet Proffitt instead of the correct Marquel Proffitt. I apologize for that blunder of mine. I would go back and edit, but it screws up the HTML box scores then.

          #11 Duquesne (14-1) vs. West Virginia (9-3)
          WVU Coliseum
          Morgantown, WV
          December 30th, 2019

The West Virginia Mountaineers sustained their second straight loss this evening as the 11th-ranked Duquesne Dukes (14-1) came into the WVU Coliseum and handled the Mountaineers 86-66. This also marks the second straight loss at home with both losses coming by 17 points or more.

"This certainly isn't what we wanted to see," stated Coach Frizzell. "Props to the Dukes. There was no question that they were the better team."

The Dukes outrebounded the Mountaineers 39-to-31 and forced WVU into 18 turnovers.

The Dukes led 45-32 at halftime and shut the door in the second half as WVU stood no chance at winning this game after halftime. Duquesne was simply too good.

The fact that the Mountaineers shot 7-for-34 from three-point range didn't help out their chances, either.

Perhaps, this is a wakeup call that the Mountaineers' 8-0 start was a mirage because of a weak schedule. The Mountaineers have now lost three of four games, although all four have come against teams currently ranked in the top 16. That said, these past four games have shown that WVU likely doesn't have what it takes to compete against the beasts of the Big East like Marquette and Pittsburgh.

The Mountaineers open up conference play on Thursday as they will host the #23 Villanova Wildcats (9-2) in both teams' Big East Conference opener.

Looks like you struggle against teams named Duke or team's whose mascots are Duke's. Snap the losing streak and let's get back to winning.

I prefer you call your guy Marquet.. I like it better......

Well, I've never changed a player's name in my legacy before (hence, my man Dinky Woods! ), so I'll just keep it Marquel probably.

                  Thanks.

You should start one up. The more the better. You get better at these reports as you gain more experience doing them. I think my writing style is probably better than it was in the first few years of this legacy (though it's still not great) and that's simply from experience doing these reports.

                      WVU Coliseum
                      Morgantown, WV
                      January 2nd, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-3, 1-0) began the year 2020 in style this evening as they ousted the #23 Villanova Wildcats (9-3, 0-1) 74-64 in front of a national television audience to begin Big East Conference play.

The difference in the game was clearly free throws, and more specifically, free throw attempts. The Wildcats racked up 22 fouls compared to WVU's 10, which resulted in the Mountaineers getting 34 free throw attempts, which WVU converted into 28 points. On the other hand, Villanova only got eight free throw attempts, of which they hit six of them.

The Wildcats actually hit five more field goals than the Mountaineers, but the free throw disparity was so large that it didn't matter.

"We were aggressive and attacked the basket," said Coach Frizzell. "[Villanova] was also a bit careless, but we played brilliantly in regards to drawing fouls."

Marqel Proffitt led the way for the Mountaineers, as has become commonplace this year. The seven-footer had a career game as he totaled career highs in scoring (23) and rebounding (14). He also blocked a couple shots.

The Mountaineers return to action again next Tuesday against Syracuse (10-3, 0-1).

Well, we probably have an argument for being in the top 25, but oh well. We do have two wins over top 25 teams, but other than that, all our wins are over cupcakes, for the most part.

And, besides, after our performance in the game I'm about to post, we wouldn't have remained in the top 25, anyways.

                                January 7th, 2020

The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-4, 1-1) sustained their first loss in conference play this evening as they fell on the road to the Syracuse Orange (11-4, 1-2) 70-65. The Orange, who came into the game sporting a not-so-great 0-2 conference record, played extremely well in most facets of the game, other than the turnover department, as the Orange turned the ball over a season-high 22 times.

Despite their turnover woes, the Orange managed to win because of free throw shooting. The Orange got 20 attempts at the free throw line to the Mountaineers' five and hit 19 of their 20 attempts.

"We were just too content to shoot jump shots," explained Coach Frizzell. "We weren't aggressive and it cost us. Of course, Syracuse did a good job of not fouling us, as well."

The Orange only collected five personal fouls in the entire game compared to the Mountaineers' 17 personal fouls.

The Mountaineers will return to action against Rutgers (6-7, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
