I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this is the best dynasty in this forum's history, and the day it ends will be a sad, sad day.

Tough stretch of losses there for the Mountaineers. As usual, everything is Marquette's fault.Comment

#8 West Virginia (14-5) vs. Syracuse (12-6)
Carrier Dome
Syracuse, NY
January 16th, 2027
Are the Mountaineers back? After three consecutive conference losses in a row, No. 8 West Virginia (14-5, 3-3) struck back with a vengeance this afternoon in Syracuse as the Mountaineers lived up to all the preseason hype with an 85-55 thumping of the Syracuse Orange (12-6, 4-2). The Mountaineers jumped all over Syracuse early and blew the game open early in the second half. Unlike in their last game, they never let their foot off the gas.
The Mountaineers were very efficient offensively, shooting 53% from the field, and played solid defense until the final buzzer. Syracuse's 55 points is the Orange's lowest total in a single game this season.
D.C. Montgomery led WVU with 24 points and three rebounds. Tre Welch had another great outing as he tallied 20 points and nine rebounds while Leandro Summers added 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Jud Helms also contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Senior guard Souleymane Miller led Syracuse with 24 points and three rebounds. Fellow senior Magnum Douglas added 10 points from off the bench.
West Virginia will face Georgetown next week.

Georgetown (10-8, 1-5) lost its fourth straight game this evening in Morgantown in embarrassing fashion as the Hoyas were taken to the woodshed by No. 10 West Virginia (15-5, 4-3), who raised their conference record back above .500 with their fourth Big East win of the season. The Mountaineers led from start-to-finish in a 96-51 thumping of the visiting Hoyas.
R.J. Peterson had a fantastic game from off the bench for the Mountaineers as he scored a game-high 20 points on seven-for-eight shooting to lead his squad. Tre Welch contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds while D.C. Montgomery added 12 points and six boards. Nile Stevenson also played well as he hit all five of his shot attempts en route to 13 points and five rebounds.
The Hoyas were led by seven-footer Delbert Clemmons, who tallied 12 points and six rebounds.
West Virginia will face a stiffer test on Saturday as they will travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

vs.
#10 West Virginia (16-5) vs. Notre Dame (11-8)
Edmund P. Joyce Center
South Bend, IN
January 23rd, 2027
No. 10 West Virginia (16-5, 5-3 Big East) won its third consecutive game this afternoon as the Mountaineers went into South Bend and edged out a pesky Notre Dame (11-8, 3-4 Big East) team, 89-84.
The Fighting Irish led for the majority of the first half and held a 46-42 advantage at halftime as the WVU defense had all kinds of trouble stopping the Fighting Irish. Ultimately, the Mountaineers pulled ahead in the closing minutes and secured the five-point victory.
Notre Dame held a decisive advantage at the free throw line, where they shot 24-for-35. WVU only shot 14 free throws, though they did shoot a very high percentage as they nailed 13 of them.
D.C. Montgomery was very impressive for the Mountaineers as he scored a season-high 27 points and hit seven three-pointers. The junior small forward also collected five rebounds and tallied three steals and two blocks. Leandro Summers was also on fire as he scored a career-high 20 points to complement Montgomery's performance. He also collected five boards. Tre Welch had a dependable day as he totaled 12 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and five steals while Jud Helms ended with 10 points, three rebounds, and three blocks. Anderson Black narrowly missed out on a double-double as he paced the offense with nine rebounds, nine assists, and four steals.
Senior point guard Lodrick Wyatt led the Irish with 19 points and three assists. Ilian Holcomb added 18 points and nine rebounds, just missing out on a double-double, while Jackie Fraizer rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points and six rebounds.
It was a sloppy game for both sides as they both committed 16 turnovers, but both teams shot the basketball well and Notre Dame especially had success at making it to the free throw line.
Next, West Virginia will face No. 21 Louisville at home on January 27th.

Nice to see your team back on the winning end after such a rough patch.
Is there any chance of you ever leaving West Virginia?Comment

Good to see you rebound and win 3 straight. Now its time to climb back up the Top 25
I'm pretty sure on one of the first couple pages he said his eventual goal to the legacy was to end up and West Virginia. So he'll probably never leave, but who knows.Check out my dynasty thread:

vs.
#14 Louisville (14-4) vs. #10 West Virginia (16-6)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
January 27th, 2027
In a highly-anticipated matchup of top 15 teams, No. 14 Louisville (14-4, 6-2) came out on top. The Cardinals downed the ninth-ranked Mountaineers 83-76 this evening in Morgantown.
The Cardinals led for much of the first half and built the lead to as many as 15 points early in the second half. At that point, West Virginia head coach James Frizzell had had enough as he made wholesale lineup changes that brought most of his starters off the floor. West Virginia (16-6, 5-4) all of a sudden had a pep in their step as they went on a 14-2 run to cut the lead to three as a bevy of threes began to fall for the Mountaineers. Nevertheless, the run petered out and the Mountaineers never got closer than three points the rest of the way as the Cardinals sank their free throws late to secure the seven-point road victory over a top 10 team.
The big difference tonight was at the free throw line, where the Cardinals shot 28-for-34. WVU only made it to the free throw line six times, sinking five of them. It is a bit troubling for the Mountaineers as this is the second consecutive game in which the Mountaineers have allowed their opponent to shoot 34+ free throws. Foul trouble wreaked havoc on certain lineups and Jud Helms fouled out after just 16 minutes of playing time.
Tre Welch also struggled mightily as he only sank three of his 11 shot attempts and ended with a measly six points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. Waitari Trammel was WVU's lone bright spot as he came off the bench to score 12 points for the Mountaineers. D.C. Montgomery added 12 points and six rebounds, but only shot four-for-16 from the floor, and Anderson Black added 13 points, three rebounds, and five steals, but also turned the basketball over a season-high six times.
Senior forward Ralfeal Dieng led the way for the Cardinals with a game-high 27 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Abe Leonard tallied 18 points, three rebounds, and three steals while Mike Packevicius came off the bench to add 11 points.
The Mountaineers will look to bounce back against South Florida in Tampa, FL on Saturday. The Mountaineers lost to the Bulls earlier this season 77-65 in Morgantown.
