Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)

Hello, everyone. I was away for the last week with final exams and such. I graduated on Friday with by B.S. in Economics, so that is over with, though I'm going to get an M.A. in Applied Economics starting next fall (got some fellowships, etc.), so school is not over yet.

But with finals behind me, updates shall resume. I also really haven't read any other dynasties in awhile, so I really need to catch up!

Also nice to see my former team Richmond in the the Top-25 and my current team WSU still being a West Coast Power. With 4 Pac-10 teams in the Top-25 looks like the Pac-10 tourney could be tough for the Cougars.
Yeah, Cincinnati and St. John's are kind of on the bubble as far as their RPI goes. Same goes for Seton Hall, Syracuse, Notre Dame, etc. The Pac-10 is probably the toughest conference this year aside from the perennial top dogs, the ACC. The Big East is actually better this year than in past years with an RPI ranking of #3.

plus what the school had shocked me.. the retiring coach had committed the

then i just simmed ahead to see how easy/hard recruiting would be if i'm in wvu.. I managed to sign the #1 overall recruit the very next year!

....that team would've been so stacked as much as i wanted to, i could not stay there

but WVU rocks, i miss their arena
Aw, you should have went. As I said before, I'm way behind on reading legacies with finals and such.

Texas Tech and Duquesne have had really good teams for the last few years. It's interesting how things go when you simulate ahead 20 years.

Thanks! Anything less than a Final Four will be disappointing.

        Big East Tournament Semifinals

Top-seeded West Virginia (27-6) won its 11th-consecutive game this evening as the Mountaineers defeated the Seton Hall Pirates (22-11) by a final score of 81-63 to advance to the Big East Tournament Championship Game, which will be played tomorrow evening at 9 PM as the Mountaineers will face off against the Marquette Golden Eagles.

Tonight, the Mountaineers really took it to the Pirates. Seton Hall played a tough game in the first half, but the Mountaineers pulled ahead late in the first half to take a 39-28 halftime lead. The Mountaineers extended this lead in the second half and held a 15-20 point lead for much of the remainder of the game as they would go on to win by 18 points, with the Pirates never really making any significant runs to threaten.

The Mountaineer shot relatively well, but the tell-tale statistic from tonight's game was rebounding, where the Mountaineers collected 45 rebounds while limiting the Pirates to only 20.

Tre Welch had another fantastic game and another double-double as he sank 12 of his 18 shot attempts and tallied 27 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Likewise, D.C. Montgomery also had another great game as he ended with 22 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high six assists. Leandro Summers added 11 points and four boards while Jud Helms tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

Kim Dahi pretty much single-handily kept Seton Hall from getting blown out as he had an amazing game, scoring 27 points on just 14 shot attempts. He also collected three boards and shot five-for-five from downtown. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Dahi did not get much help from his teammates as Albert Vignale was the only other Seton Hall player to score more than eight points as he added with 13 points.

West Virginia will face seventh-seeded Marquette tomorrow night to decide the Big East Championship. The Golden Eagles struggled down the stretch this season, as they fell from a top 10 ranking to unranked by the end of the regular season and only ended with a 10-8 record in conference play. However, the Golden Eagles soundly smacked the Mountaineers 78-56 earlier this season in Milwaukee, so it will be interesting to see whether the Mountaineers can get revenge. The 56 points the Mountaineers scored against Marquette is a season-low.

Good luck in the Chip. Another Big East Tourney Title to add to the resume to go with the regular season title. Now the question is will there be another National Title to go with it.

We shall hope! This WVU team is tied for the highest-rated OVR team in the nation, IIRC.

                Big East Tournament Championship Game

Top-seeded West Virginia (28-6) won its second straight Big East Tournament Championship today as the Mountaineers edged streaking Marquette 82-77. The Golden Eagles (23-11) kept the game close from the tipoff to the final buzzer, but the Mountaineers maintained a lead throughout the majority of the game in the eventual five-point victory.

D.C. Montgomery hit some late free throws to eventually seal the victory. Montgomery had another great game this evening as he tallied 27 points, six rebounds, and three steals. He also hit 11 of his 12 attempts from the charity stripe.

Overall, the Mountaineers shot 24-28 from the free throw line and forced Marquette into 17 turnovers. The Mountaineers struggled shooting from beyond the arc (4-15), but made up for it with deft shooting from close to the basket as the Mountaineers shot 54% overall in the game.

Tre Welch added 13 points, six rebounds, four steals, and a pair of blocks while Jud Helms ended with 12 points, six boards, and three assists. Leanrdo Summers also shot 3-5 and ended with 11 points.

Dominick Gary led Marquette with 19 points. Freshman Dez Keita came off the bench to pour in 16 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals while Barry Adkins added 12 points and four steals. Todor Parham also totaled 10 points and five boards.

"It's great to come back and win this thing again," remarked WVU's Coach Frizzell after the game. "We hope to go deep again into March and hopefully early April like last year. Maybe this time we can win our final game."

West Virginia will await its seeding into the NCAA Tournament tomorrow. The Mountaineers are projected as one of the four #1 seeds.

Good luck in the tourney, seems like you're lined up for a #1 seed even if your team has shown some vulnerabilities at times this year. I, for one, don't see your team getting into the Final 4. I'm the doubter

You think you have a deep run in you?

As with last season, anything less than a Final Four will be a disappointment. Frankly, a National Title is a realistic goal, so we'll see.

Yeah, I think this team should go fairly deep. I think a Final Four is a realistic expectation, though you never know what type of teams you might run into along the way. It's always great to be a #1 seed, then face a #8 seed in the second round with a 94 OVR rating...

Earlier in this legacy, I was a #3 seed, IIRC, and I played #11-seeded Oregon State in the second round. Sounds easy, right? Well, not quite as they had a 94 OVR rating. Ridiculous.

So you just never know what you're running into. Even if the team is not seeded high and did not have a great record, they might have a lot of talent.

Little bitter sweet to with the possibility of facing your former team in USF. Maybe the Spiders will do you a favor and knock them off.

Nice to see them and WSU both in the tourney.

Crazy to see Utah State and BYU both do so well yet no see another WAC or MWC make the tourney.
