Thanks. It was close this year, but Villanova and UConn lost some games late and allowed us to slip up to the #1 seed during our late-season run against bottom of the barrel teams.

May not have been as dominant as season's past but still a strong year nonetheless. Tournament time - especially this Big East Tournament - is my favorite part of the year, good luck!

Yeah, we definitely have a good team that's capable of winning it all. We had a stretch there mid-season where we were definitely not playing as well as we should have, but hopefully we've turned a corner late!

Big East Tournament - Quarterfinal Round

Top-seeded West Virginia (25-7) kicked off their Big East Tournament with a 97-64 thrashing of rival Pittsburgh (18-14) this afternoon at Madison Square Garden in the quarterfinal round. The Mountaineers led 41-27 at halftime, but opened it up offensively in the second half, especially from three-point range, as they outscored the Panthers 56-37 in the final period of play.

The Mountaineers shot 57% (17/30) from three-point range as they were lethal from deep. Fred Joiner scored a career-high 32 points and dished out four assists for West Virginia. Predrag Gabler added 15 points and six rebounds, and Willie Gomes totaled 15 points and seven rebounds.

Bud Hudson scored 20 points and tallied four assists to lead Pittsburgh in scoring. Jerald Hull paced the offense with 13 points and four assists. Gerald Dukes totaled 13 points and four steals. Tay Bookout added 10 points.

Villanova also defeated South Florida 73-70, so the fourth-seeded Wildcats will face off against West Virginia in the Big East Tournament semifinals tomorrow evening. Cincinnati and Rutgers will face each other in the other semifinal game.

Big East Tournament - Semifinal Round

Top-seeded West Virginia (26-7) will advance to the 2031 Big East Tournament Championship Game as they defeated fourth-seeded Villanova (19-10) in a slugfest this evening 63-54. This marks West Virginia's sixth consecutive victory.

The Mountaineers shot just 35% (25/72) from the field and only made five trips to the foul line, where they shot just 2/5 (40%). The Mountaineers attempted 35 three-point attempts, but made just 11 of them at a 31% clip. Tonight's 63 points is the fewest points the Mountaineers have scored since February 8th in a 69-62 loss against Louisville, and is the fewest points the Mountaineers have scored in a victory this season.

"We were too passive out there today and didn't attack [Villanova] like we needed to," stated West Virginia head coach James Frizzell in the postgame press conference. "They threw a tough 2-3 zone at us and we settled for threes instead of taking it inside and finding holes in the zone. A lot of our guys' shots from deep weren't there tonight, and it showed."

Senior center O.J. Palmer was aggressive inside for West Virginia, at least, as he totaled an impressive 20-point, 14-rebound double-double. Predrag Gabler was the only other Mountaineer to score in double-figures as he scored 12 points. Point guard Fred Joiner ended a streak of three consecutive 25+ point games as he ended with just five points on 2/9 shooting.

Junior forward Predrag Osborne led Villanova in scoring with 19 points and four rebounds. Frederic Montgomery also notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Sixth-seeded Cincinnati defeated second-seeded Rutgers 72-54 in the other Big East Tournament semifinal match. West Virginia will face off against Cincinnati in the Championship Game tomorrow night. Cincinnati handed West Virginia a stifling 77-76 loss back in early February at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, so the Mountaineers will be looking to bounce back after that defeat.

After a tough stretch towards the end of the season, you've turned things around nicely with this tournament run. Let's hope this run continues into the NCAA tourney!

Any chance you could throw up the mid-major top 25? I'd be interested to see that landscape of those teams this far in your dynasty.

Big East Tournament - Championship Game

Top-seeded West Virginia (27-7) won the Big East Tournament for the second consecutive year this evening as they steamrolled Cincinnati 85-50. The Bearcats (22-12) handed West Virginia a one-point defeat earlier this season in Cincinnati, but the Mountaineers were motivated to get revenge for that defeat as they showed the Bearcats no mercy this evening at Madison Square Garden.

West Virginia led 41-25 at halftime and put the game away midway through the second half with an offensive flurry combined with lockdown defense.

Freshman small forward Myron DeLeon scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed six rebounds for West Virginia to lead all players in scoring. O.J. Palmer had a fantastic all-around performance with 14 points, 16 rebounds, and eight assists. Willie Gomes totaled 11 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks while Predrag Gabler hit four threes and totaled 14 points and five rebounds. Fred Joiner hit five threes to score 15 points.

West Virginia shot 16/34 (47%) from three-point range tonight and outrebounded Cincinnati 43-28. The Mountaineers also forced Cincinnati into 14 turnovers while only committing six of their own.

Senior guard Jeromy Braun scored 15 points to lead the Bearcats in scoring while fellow senior Felix Falls added 12 points and four assists.

West Virginia will await their NCAA Tournament seeding in tomorrow's selection show, but as of now are expected to be named a #1 seed in the Big Dance. The Mountaineers have won seven consecutive games entering the tournament.
