Maybe I need to feed him the ball even more, but his usage rate is already high as it is.

I didn't realise you were a Falcons fan! Ouch!
I think WVU choked against Kansas last night in real life about as bad as Atlanta did against New England. Of course, the stakes were a lot lower, but that was something else.

      #16 West Virginia (3-3) vs. Massachusetts (7-3)
      William D. Mullins Memorial Center
      Amherst, MA
      December 2nd, 2031

No. 16 West Virginia (3-3) lost its second consecutive game as the Mountaineers suffered a 75-70 loss against Massachusetts (7-3) this evening in Amherst, MA.

The Minutemen controlled most of the game as the Mountaineers had another subpar offensive outing. Both teams were very sloppy with the basketball as West Virginia turned the basketball over 20 times and UMass turned the basketball over 21 times.

"We have to do better at valuing the basketball," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell after the game. "We were careless out there and we lost the game because of it. The game became frantic and we just couldn't keep our emotions in check.

"This is a frustrating time for us. Massachusetts is a good opponent and it's always tough to win a road game in college basketball, but at the same time this is another poor showing for us, and we've had a string of these poor showings to start the year."

Sophomore guard Leo Erwin scored 14 points in just 15 minutes of action to lead UMass in scoring from off the bench. Dez Spencer paced the UMass offense with 11 points, seven assists, and five steals. Gregory Shafer added 12 points and five assists while Eric Francois notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Brad Hooper also totaled 13 points and five rebounds.

Theron Dux scored a game-high 17 points and added eight assists and four steals to lead West Virginia in scoring. Myron DeLeon added 11 points and six rebounds. Willie Gomes was held in check all day by the UMass defensive frontline. Gomes shot an impressive 7/8 from the field and totaled 15 points, seven assists, and three blocks, but he struggled to get many opportunities against UMass seven-foot center Brad Hooper.

The road ahead doesn't get any easier for West Virginia as they will host Vanderbilt and undefeated #4 Duke in their next two games.

This could really turn into a long season for Coach Frizzell and his ball club. Maybe a little will fire them up. I'm hoping there is a turn around soon.

Yeah, this is the worst start we've had since I have been at WVU, I think. Things need to turn around quickly as the schedule is a bit of a murder's row. Vanderbilt up next is no picnic and Duke is going to be tough to beat.

This is the highest overall rating a team I have coached has ever had at the beginning of the season, too. You just never know what you're going to get, I guess. Joiner's loss has been more painful than I expected. We really have no one to replace what he did for us.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-3) ended their two-game losing streak this evening as they defeated Vanderbilt 72-53. The Mountaineers struggled at times offensively, but locked down the Commodores (5-3) defensively as Vanderbilt shot just 36% (20/55) from the floor, including just 16% (3/19) from three-point range.

The Mountaineers turned the ball over 19 times, but dominated the glass as they outrebounded the Commodores 48-25. Willie Gomes was a big reason why as the West Virginia center hauled in 15 rebounds to go along with 14 points, despite shooting just 5/15 from the floor.

Predrag Gabler added 14 points and four rebounds and Myron DeLeon totaled 17 points and seven rebounds for No. 16 West Virginia.

Junior guard Dominic Lhota scored 12 points to lead Vanderbilt in scoring while Thomas Bro came off the bench to add 11 points.

The Mountaineers will face their stiffest test of the season on Sunday as they will take on undefeated #4 Duke. The defending national champion Blue Devils knocked West Virginia out in the National Semifinals last season, so the Mountaineers will be looking to get revenge.

After being swept by Duke in their two meetings last season, including a loss in the National Semifinals, No. 16 West Virginia (5-3) finally got some revenge today as they defeated previously undefeated No. 4 Duke 86-71.

The Blue Devils (6-1) led 29-20 with six minutes to go left in the first half, but the Mountaineers closed out the half on a 12-0 run to lead at halftime 32-29 and never looked back. The Mountaineers finally got a good showing offensively in the second half as they erupted for 54 second-half points and led by double-digits for the majority of the second half.

Willie Gomes scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead West Virginia in both categories. Freshman Skip Bradford came off the bench to total 16 points and four rebounds and Myron DeLeon added 15 points and nine rebounds. Theron Dux just missed out on a double-double as the junior point guard tallied eight points, four rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists for WVU.

Ferdinand Guiang totaled 21 points, five rebounds, and four steals for Duke. Marty Sweetney scored 15 points and Maleye Schiffner added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers shot 49% (34/70) from the floor and 35% (11/31) from three-point range. The Mountaineers also forced Duke into 17 turnovers.

The Mountaineers have now won two consecutive games and look to be getting their season back on track after suffering two consecutive losses against Clemson and Massachusetts.

West Virginia has the next nine days off as they will not play again until hosting Monmouth on December 17th.

Nice pair of wins, good to see the defense stepping up to help spur the offense on. Plus, it's always good to see Duke lose.

Great back to back wins. Even better to see you get the best of Duke after what they did against your team last season

Yeah, I didn't expect to beat Duke after how rough this season has been, but I guess this team still has plenty of talent when they decide to show up.

Yeah, it was nice to beat Duke for sure! They have downed me a few times in this legacy, and last season was rough!

Miami (10-6) escaped with a 98-94 double-overtime victory at home against visiting West Virginia (6-4) this evening in a thriller.

Miami guard Pee-Wee Atkins totaled 24 points, six rebounds, four assists, and six steals and fellow guard Chaz Webb tallied 23 points, five rebounds, and six assists as the Miami backcourt scorched West Virginia all game. Freshman phenom Junior Bermudez added 16 points and four rebounds while Moses Beye ended with 13 points and four boards.

The Mountaineers had the ball and a chance to win the game at the end of regulation and at the end of the first overtime, but failed to convert in both instances. At the end of regulation, the Mountaineers struggled to get a play going and Matt Blanchard had to hoist up a fadeaway three-pointer from the corner as time expired. At the end of the first overtime, the Mountaineers didn't even get off a shot as Theron Dux turned the ball over in the waning seconds trying to make something happen.

Miami took the lead early in the second overtime and never relinquished it as the Mountaineers seemed to run out of gas in the second extra period.

The Mountaineers had to play both overtime periods without two starters as Willie Gomes and Myron DeLeon both fouled out in the waning minutes of regulation. Gomes ended with 17 points and seven rebounds while Myron DeLeon hit three treys to end with 11 points, eight rebounds, and a pair of blocks.

Theron Dux scored a career-high 20 points and tallied seven assists for West Virginia. Ethan Augustin added 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

The Mountaineers turned the basketball over 21 times and uncharacteristically struggled defensively as the Hurricanes shot 54% (34/63) from the field and 56% (9/16) from downtown. West Virginia outrebounded the Hurricanes 35-24, but it didn't amount to much due to Miami's hot shooting.

The Mountaineers are averaging 14.6 turnovers per game through 10 games this season, sixth-worst in the Big East.

The Mountaineers have six days off before hosting Dartmouth next Saturday. West Virginia will close out the non-conference slate two days later against rival No. 8 Virginia Tech on the following Monday.

What a wild ride this has been so far. This sets up for a very important Big East regular season. Is it the consistency being a problem, or are you guys just not as good as other years?

I have to admit, this season has been one of the most exciting to follow because nothing has been a gimme!
