Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
What a wild ride this has been so far. This sets up for a very important Big East regular season. Is it the consistency being a problem, or are you guys just not as good as other years?
I have to admit, this season has been one of the most exciting to follow because nothing has been a gimme!
And I understand about enjoying this season more. I always enjoy reading challenging legacies more as well!
I think losing Joiner has taken away our scoring ability at the point guard position. Dux is good, but he struggles to score inside with his lack of height. Additionally, our shooters have just not been hitting shots this season. I am not sure what else is going on, really. Gomes has done a good job at picking up the slack for Palmer, though I suppose not having two seven-footers start has hurt us some, too.Comment

vs.
#5 Virginia Tech (13-1) vs. West Virginia (7-5)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
December 29th, 2031
The West Virginia Mountaineers played their second overtime game in their past three outings, and just like their previous double-overtime thriller against Miami on December 20th, tonight the Mountaineers drew the short end of the stick as they succumbed to No. 5 Virginia Tech 76-74 in overtime.
The Mountaineers (7-5) had the basketball with the game tied in the waning seconds in the overtime period, but as the Mountaineers were trying to feed Willie Gomes the basketball, he was called for a three-seconds in the paint violation and West Virginia turned the ball over with 4.8 seconds left. Virginia Tech subsequently inbounded the ball from the baseline and point guard Shawan McCully drove the length of the court before dishing his 11th assist of the game off to Berry Djordjevic, who drained a contested 20-footer as time expired to give the Hokies (13-1) the huge two-point overtime victory.
"This one hurts a lot," explained West Virginia heach James Frizzell in the post-game press conference. "We didn't play their final play badly on defense; Berry just hit a tough shot. That happens sometimes. Still, our execution on the other end of the court in the closing seconds was inexcusable. You simply can't turn the basketball over on a three-seconds violation like that. This is a terrible way to close out the non-conference schedule, and a terrible result against one of our great rivals."
Berry Djordjevic scored 14 points and also totaled four steals for Virginia Tech. Kamarr Beckwith added 18 points while Shawne McNaughton tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Shawan McCully paced the offense with eight points and 11 assists.
Willie Gomes had a fantastic game for WVU as he totaled 24 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Theron Dux added 12 points, five assists, and four steals while Predrag Gabler ended with 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Matt Blanchard also came off the bench to hit three three-pointers and score 11 points.
Tonight's game was the Mountaineers' final non-conference game of the regular season. They finish the non-conference schedule with a highly disappointing record of 7-5. Their conference opener is in two days at No. 19 Marquette in what should prove to be another tough matchup for the reeling Mountaineers, who have lost four of their five losses this year by just a combined 13 points.

vs.
West Virginia (7-6) vs. #19 Marquette (7-2)
BMO Harris Bradley Center
Milwaukee, WI
January 1st, 2032
Myron DeLeon missed a game-tying three-pointer with one second left as the West Virginia Mountaineers (7-6, 0-1) fell to No. 19 Marquette 83-80 in both teams' conference openers this evening.
The Mountaineers trailed by 17 points halfway through the second half, but mounted a ferocious comeback that would have hit the mark if it weren't for DeLeon's missed open attempt from beyond the arc in the waning seconds of the game.
Marquette shot 57% (32/56) from the field and 67% (6/7) from three-point range.
Both teams turned the basketball over 21 times, but the Golden Eages' hot shooting ultimately proved to be the deciding factor.
Junior guard Janko Adler scored 16 points and tallied five assists for Marquette while Allen Sockwell added 12 points. Seven-footer Phillip Drake totaled 14 points and six rebounds and Lamar Jensen totaled 10 points and six assists.
Willie Gomes notched a double-double for the Mountaineers as he scored 22 points and 11 rebounds. Myron DeLeon and Predrag Gabler each added 14 points apiece.
West Virginia will face off against 3-10 Georgetown in Washington D.C. on Saturday as the Mountaineers will look to bounce back and pick up their first conference victory.

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
I believe the only currently ranked team I have left on the schedule is #9 Connecticut in a few weeks, so there's an opportunity for me to reel off some wins in conference play, I think. I'll need to if I want to make the NCAA Tournament as five non-conference losses is not a good way to start things out, although my non-conference schedule was probably the toughest in the country.
In any case, my streak of 30+ win seasons is almost definitely in jeopardy.

vs.
West Virginia (8-6) vs. Georgetown (3-11)
Verizon Center
Washington, D.C.
January 3rd, 2032
West Virginia (8-6, 1-1) picked up their first conference win of the season and their first win in 2032 this Saturday afternoon as they downed Georgetown 69-60 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
The Hoyas (3-11), a doormat in the Big East in recent years, made a game out of it and trailed by single digits for the vast majority of the game, including at the final buzzer. The Hoyas cut the Mountaineers' lead to as few as two points late in the second half.
Hollis Soson scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Hoyas in both categories. Londrick Delfino, one of Georgetown's more promising freshman (along with 7'2" center Nik Wong), added 13 points. Nik Wong struggled offensively, but his defensive presence was key to limiting West Virginia's inside game.
West Virginia sophomore Willie Gomes was held by Wong to just 12 points on 3/12 shooting. Gomes also added eight rebounds and four blocks. Myron DeLeon starred for the Mountaineers as he scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Freshman Skip Bradford added 10 points and six rebounds from off the bench.
The game was well-controlled by both teams as the Hoyas turned the basketball over eight times and WVU turned the ball over 10 times.
Next, West Virginia will host Providence on Wednesday.
