Yep, can't argue with the first part, haha. And, yeah, we're looking a lot better recently. Part of that is Gomes' increased usage and part of it is that the schedule has been easier.

          Morgantown, WV
          February 3rd, 2032

No. 17 West Virginia (15-7, 8-2) won their fifth consecutive game this evening as they completed their season-sweep over the Georgetown Hoyas (9-14, 5-5) with an easy 86-62 victory at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, WV.

West Virginia got off to a quick start and led 45-24 at halftime. The game was never really in doubt after the early stages of the game.

Freshman forward Skip Bradford scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, both career-highs, to lead the Mountaineers in both categories. Willie Gomes added 16 points and eight rebounds and Predrag Gabler added 14 points. Myron DeLeon shot just 3/10 from the field, but still managed 10 points and five rebounds.

Freshman Londrick Delfino scored 20 points to lead the Hoyas in scoring. Hollis Soson totaled 11 points and five assists while C.C. Warsaw added 10 points.

The Mountaineers did not have a great shooting night from three-point range (30%), but they were dominant on the boards as they outrebounded the Hoyas 44-24.

Next, West Virginia will hit the road to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, NJ on Saturday.

Is there a reason why Bradford hasn't taken the starting spot from Augustin yet? He's been getting significantly more minutes the last few games than Augustin

I've been using Bradford as a spark off the bench up to this point. I may move him into the starting role at some point soon, but time will tell. Both Augustin and Bradford have closed out games for me this year, but Bradford has certainly been closing out games more often than not recently. Bradford provides something I usually don't get out of my big men as he's very athletic with a good face-up and pick-and-pop game.

                February 7th, 2032

Freshman guard Frederick Matela scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (14-10, 5-6) in scoring, but he missed a shot as time expired in regulation and Rutgers fell short 68-67 to No. 17 West Virginia (16-7, 9-2) this evening in Morgantown.

Matela had a chance at the buzzer, but his shot attempt was severely altered by West Virginia's Predrag Gabler's stellar defense.

West Virginia led wire-to-wire this evening, but the Scarlet Knights came back in the waning minutes to nearly pull ahead at the buzzer.

Zach Peterson scored 14 points for Rutgers and D'Marr Macura added 11 points and four rebounds. Theron Penigar scored 11 points from off the bench.

Willie Gomes totaled 24 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks to lead the Mountaineers in all three categories. Myron DeLeon was the only other double-digit scorer for West Virginia as he scored 13 points and nabbed three steals.

Rutgers was able to get back into the game because of hot three-point shooting. Rutgers made 10 of their 17 attempts (59%).

Tonight's victory gives West Virginia head coach James Frizzell 699 wins in his career. He will go for win no. 700 next Tuesday as the Mountaineers will travel to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls. West Virginia will be heavily favored against the struggling Bulls.

I have a feeling that Coach Frizzell will reach that 700th victory against South Florida. Let's go coach. Once again I hope that one day my coach is worthy enough to even stand in the same gym as Coach Frizzell

South Florida is a horrible team, so I better win!

I've still got nothing on Wooden, though. Lots of wins, but still "only" three National Championships in 24 full seasons. Time to win some more!

No. 16 West Virginia (17-7, 10-2) throttled South Florida 93-56 this evening to win their seventh consecutive game as Mountaineers head coach James Frizzell notched his 700th career win.

West Virginia's Willie Gomes scored 25 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds to lead all players in both categories. Myron DeLeon added 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists while Skip Bradford totaled 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists from off the bench. Predrag Gabler also scored an efficient 11 points to go along with six boards.

The Mountaineers shot out to an early lead from the tip-off and never looked back. Frizzell emptied the bench in the second half as the Mountaineers cruised to an easy victory.

Winston Grant led South Florida (8-15, 3-8) in scoring with 15 points. Delvon Fofan totaled 13 points and four rebounds and Earl Bridgewater added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Frizzell picks up his 700th career win in his 886th career game, as he stands with a record of 700-186. In his 24 full seasons of coaching, Frizzell has guided his teams to 16 regular season conference championships, 23 NCAA Tournaments, 15 Sweet Sixteens, nine Final Fours, and three National Championships (all at WVU). Frizzell has won at least 20 games 23 times and has won conference coach of the year in 19 of his 23 seasons as head coach. He also has won national coach of the year three times.

"It's just another win," said the 50-year old Frizzell after the game's conclusion when asked about the importance of reaching the 700-win mark. "We're playing well right now, and we're playing well at the right time. If we can keep our play up, we'll be in good shape going into March."

West Virginia will host St. John's on Saturday. The Red Storm have won just two Big East Conference games all year.

No. 16 West Virginia (18-7, 11-2) won their eighth game in a row as they defeated the St. John's Red Storm 88-75 this evening in Morgantown.

The Red Storm (10-17, 2-11) surprisingly led for most of the first half, but West Virginia pulled ahead in the half's waning moments and ran away with the game in the second half. St. John's made the game appear closer than it really was with a late run against West Virginia's bench to cut the lead to just 13 points as the final buzzer sounded. The Mountaineers led by as many as 28 points midway through the second half.

Willie Gomes scored 31 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Mountaineers in both categories. Skip Bradford tallied 12 points and five rebounds and Matt Blanchard closed out the double-figures scoring with 11 points. Aside from Gomes, who shot 12/23 from the field, the other four West Virginia starters shot just 6/24 (25%).

Freshman Darold Obrzut scored 19 points to lead the Red Storm in scoring. Lavelle Clarke added 17 points and Felipe Clifford came off the bench to tally 12 points and five rebounds.

The Mountaineers outrebounded St. John's 41-28 and attempted 80 field goals compared to St. Johns' 51. The Red Storm shot 53% (27/51) from the floor today, but the 29 shot field goal attempt disparity was too much to overcome.

West Virginia will host Villanova next on Monday evening.
