    December 21st, 2036

No. 1 West Virginia (10-1) overcame a 14-point second half deficit to squeak by Virginia Tech (7-3) this evening 80-79 in Blacksburg.

The Hokies had a chance to win the game at the final buzzer, but senior guard Derek Tafo missed a three-pointer with three seconds left that would have given the Hokies the lead, and West Virginia was able to run out the clock before the Hokies were able to foul Carson Lavender on the rebound.

Lavender totaled 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks for West Virginia. Belton Mombollet and Stefon Hull each scored 15 points and Felipe Delgado bounced back from a rough game against Rice with 12 points and eight rebounds tonight.

Tomas Songcuacy scored a game-high 25 points for Virginia Tech and shot 11/17 from the floor, including 3/3 from three-point range. Point guard Branden Watkins paced the offense with 19 points and six assists and Derek Tafo added 16 points and four steals.

West Virginia struggled to shoot the ball early on, but the Mountaineers' three-point attempts began to fall during the latter stages of the second half after falling behind by 14 points early on. In the end, West Virginia shot 43% (17/40) on 40 attempts from three-point range. Virginia Tech also shot well from beyond the arc (40%), but did so on only 15 attempts.

Next, West Virginia hosts LSU next Saturday in both teams' final regular season nonconference game of the season.

            LSU (9-3) vs. #1 West Virginia (11-1)
            WVU Coliseum
            Morgantown, WV
            December 27th, 2036

Felipe Delgado hit six three-pointers and scored 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals to lead No. 1 West Virginia (11-1) to their second consecutive win, a close 72-67 victory over LSU (9-3) this evening in Morgantown.

Barry Henning added 11 points and hit three shots from three-point range for West Virginia, but no other Mountaineers scored in double-figures.

Lubos Israel scored a team-high 17 points for LSU and 7'2" center Chakowby Elder totaled a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Tre Leslie also scored 10 points from off the bench.

Elder was a force down low for LSU, especially on the defensive end. West Virginia's starting power forward and center, Belton Mombollet and Carson Lavender respectively, combined for just seven points and shot a paltry 3/16 from the floor.

The Mountaineers struggled shooting the basketball from inside the arc, making just 25% (7/28) from two-point range. They were much more successful from three-point range, where they shot an impressive 44% (17/39). Overall, West Virginia shot 36% (24/67), but the two-point/three-point percentage split was the opposite of what you would expect to see.

West Virginia led 41-35 at halftime and led wire-to-wire in the second half, but the Mountaineers were never able to break the game open and had to hit key shots down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

Next, West Virginia opens their Big East Conference schedule at No. 22 Connecticut on Tuesday evening.

Yes! It’s good to see we might have some competition this year. It wasn’t long ago that this was tragically a one-bid league...

No. 1 West Virginia (12-1, 1-0) kicked off their Big East Conference season this evening with a hard-fought 60-52 defensive victory over No. 20 Connecticut (12-2, 0-1) on the road.

Felipe Delgado was West Virginia's only double-digit scorer and scored a game-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

West Virginia led 32-20 at halftime and maintained their lead while playing superb defense throughout the second half.

West Virginia shot just 38% (21/56) from the floor, but UConn was scarcely better at 39% (22/56). The Mountaineers held a decisive advantage from three-point range, where they hit 12 threes compared to UConn's four, and also outshot the Huskies from the free throw line.

Brandyn Evtimov scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Connecticut in scoring. Junior point guard Jaison Gross also had a nice game, totaling 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Next, West Virginia will travel to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls, who are off to a surprisingly strong 9-3 start this season.

SuperJames I have a question for you- What level did you start playing at and when did you know when it was time to move up the difficulty?

I played a whole season (every game but 3) in my Spurs MyLeague and I won the title. Not sure if its time for me to move up or not. I want it to be challenging, but I generally don't mess with sliders, so I will just pick a difficulty level and play on it. I have always just played on All-Star but over the course of 100+ games played I got markedly better and now I'm going into Year 2.

What advice do you have for me? What did you think about when deciding to move up in difficulty?

Good grief, with those shooting performances that must have been a rough 40 minutes.

It's tough to gauge, and something I gradually did over time. I don't think I've touched the difficulty in a number of seasons now. I definitely had the difficulty level too easy early in the legacy, but it's something that I think I have at a good level now. I win a lot, of course, but we also have, on average, had the most talented roster in the nation over the last 5-10 years, so we should be winning a lot.

I don't really like adjusting difficulty levels mid-season unless it seems way off. I know you're already into season 2 now, though.

Your SA dynasty is good stuff, BTW! Go Spurs Go! It wasn't like you cruised to an easy title in your legacy, either. You had some hard-fought series, and the Spurs did have a good team last year (I think they could have gotten to the WCF if they beat Denver).

                                January 3rd, 2037

Freshman guard Barry Henning scored a career-high 22 points and hit 5/8 from three-point range to lead No. 1 West Virginia (13-1, 2-0) to a gutsy 85-78 victory this evening over the South Florida Bulls (10-4, 1-1) at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL.

Belton Mombollet added 13 points, five rebounds, and four four assists and Stefon Hull also scored 13 points.

The Mountaineers were uncharacteristically outrebounded by USF 32-22, but the Bulls turned the basketball over a season-worst 23 times. In contrast, West Virginia only turned the basketball over 11 times.

USF shot 51% (27/52) from the floor and 18/21 (86%) from the free throw line, but it wasn't enough to make up for their carelessness with the basketball.

Freshman guard Emerson Grkovic scored a team-high 22 points for South Florida. Senior center Erwin Stoudamire tallied a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double and fellow senior Gene Poole hit three three-pointers and scored 15 points from off the bench.

West Virginia will host Seton Hall next Wednesday.
