#1 West Virginia (24-1) vs. Seton Hall (10-15)
    Prudential Center
    Newark, NJ
    February 16th, 2028

No. 1 West Virginia (24-1, 13-0) came out and blew out Seton Hall (10-15, 4-9) 90-59 to notch their 21st consecutive win this evening.

The Mountaineers played solid defense and were a juggernaut on offense, as usual, as they shot 52% from the floor and made over half of their three-point shots.

Tre Welch led the way for WVU with 25 points, nine boards, and three assists. Deno Woodards added 14 points and six boards while Waitari Trammell paced the offense with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

The Pirates were led by senior forward Lloyd Christopher's 15 points. Jackie Blackgrove and Gregg Mobley added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

West Virginia will host Connecticut on Saturday. The Mountaineers nearly suffered a defeat against Connecticut last month before overcoming a substantial deficit to win 71-63 in Storrs.

      Connecticut (16-11) vs. #1 West Virginia (25-1)
      WVU Coliseum
      Morgantown, WV
      February 19th, 2028

No. 1 West Virginia (25-1, 14-0) cruised to an easy win this Saturday afternoon as the Mountaineers defeated the visiting Huskies 70-57.

The score made the game closer than it looked, but it was clear that Connecticut (16-11, 8-7) was overmatched from the tipoff. The Mountaineers grabbed an early lead and never relented. The Mountaineers led by as many as 20 points late in the second half before Connecticut cut into the lead in the final minutes.

Tre Welch logged his third consecutive 20+ point performance as he tallied 21 points and nine rebounds in today's game. Waitari Trammell added 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals while Deno Woodards had a solid game, totaling 12 points and six rebounds. Nile Stevenson had a rough night shooting, but performed well at the foul line as he hit seven free throws and ended with 11 points and six rebounds.

Senior guard Lyle Dunnington led Connecticut with 14 points.

West Virginia closes out the regular season against South Florida and Rutgers next week and then No. 12 Marquette and Georgetown the week thereafter. The Mountaineers should be heavily favored in every game aside from Marquette as South Florida, Rutgers, and Georgetown are all sub-.500 teams and have a combined record of 32-49.

Yes, I would say this is the best team I've ever had. It would've been even better hard D.C. Montgomery not turned pro.

The early-season loss to Indiana hurts as they weren't even very good, but oh well. It's water under the bridge at this point in a way.

              February 23rd, 2026

No. 1 West Virginia (26-1, 15-0) faced a real scare today against the sub-.500 USF Bulls, but came back from as many as 13 points down to defeat USF (12-15, 6-9) 90-77. The Bulls led by double-digits for a significant portion of the first half and led by as many as seven points midway through the second half. However, the Mountaineers locked it down when it counted as they seized control in the closing 10 minutes to win by 13.

The Bulls used a trio of scorers to keep pace with the Mountaineers as they torched the Mountaineers defensively for much of the game. Acie Bird led the way with a career-high 26 points and three rebounds. Elijah Spaulding added 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists while Marry Bourchardt ended with 16 points and five assists.

"It was a lot more difficult than it probably should have been," commented WVU's Coach Frizzell, "but a win's a win and that's all that really matters. That being said, we will need to play much better if we hope to beat Marquette next week."

Leandro Summers led the Mountaineers with 17 points and four assists. Waitari Trammell added 13 points and seven assists. Both Nile Stevenson and Tre Welch had nice games down low for the Mountaineers. Stevenson tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists while Welch tallied a double-double, totaling 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.

West Virginia faces Rutgers in Pisctaway on Saturday.

                February 26th, 2026

After a bit of a scare earlier this week against South Florida, the top-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (27-1, 16-0) clamped down early tonight against Rutgers (12-18, 5-11) as they took an early lead and never looked back, topping the Scarlet Knights 76-51.

The blowout gave Coach Frizzell ample time to play his backups in the second half as every player saw the floor for at least four minutes and 10 players recorded at least 12 minutes.

Fred Joiner led the way from off the bench for the Mountaineers as he was fantastic, tallying 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Tre Welch added 13 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks while Deno Woodards added 10 points. Waitari Trammell had a great all-around game, as well, as he totaled nine points, seven assists, and a career-high six steals.

Point guard Dane Stoudamire led Rutgers with 13 points and three rebounds. However, his eight turnovers were very costly as the Scarlet Knights turned the basketball over 17 times as a team on the night. Senior center Edwin Smithson was the only other Rutgers player to score in double-figures as he ended with 10 points and seven rebounds.

West Virginia has a day off before taking on #12 Marquette on Monday evening.

No. 1 West Virginia (28-1, 17-0) delivered a statement this Monday evening in Morgantown as they trounced the visiting 11th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles (21-8, 11-6), 83-55. It was a far cry from when the Mountaineers faced off against the Golden Eagles on February 3rd in Milwaukee, when the Mountaineers narrowly escaped 74-71 in overtime

The Mountaineers led from the first basket scored, but Marquette managed to keep it close at halftime, with the Mountaineers ahead 40-32. However, the Mountaineers began to pull away after halftime as the Mountaineers' defensive effort was superb. Marquette only managed 23 points after the half as the Mountaineers outscored them 43-23 the rest of the way in their 28-point rout of the No. 11 team in the land.

Marquette shot a measly 29% from the floor in the game and 28% from three-point range. The Golden Eagles were also out-rebounded 43-24. The Mountaineers shot 51% from the floor.

Tre Welch led the way for the Mountaineers with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. Nile Stevenson also tallied a double-double as he ended with 13 points, 12 boards, and three blocks. Deno Woodards totaled 19 points and three rebounds while senior Leandro Summers made five of his six shot attempts en route to 12 points and six rebounds. Waitari Trammell was the only WVU starter that did not reach double-figures in scoring, but still had a fine outing as he hit three treys and just missed out on a double-double with nine points, nine assists, and three steals.

Dez Keita led Marquette with 15 points and four rebounds. Dominick Gary was the only other Golden Eagle to reach double-figures in this offensively-plagued game as he tallied 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

It was also senior night for the Mountaineers as Leandro Summers and Tre Welch played their final games at home in a WVU uniform. It was also Bobby Dux's final game, but he did not see any playing time during the game.

"It's a great win and I think we really made a statement that we're a force to be reckoned with in March," beamed Coach Frizzell after the game. "It's a great win for our seniors and it's a great way to end the season for the home fans. There's nothing quite as satisfying as blowout out a highly-ranked team in front of the hometown fans; well, maybe aside from winning a trophy, and we'll be aiming to do just that in March!"

West Virginia will travel to Washington D.C. to face hapless Georgetown on March 4th in the two teams' final regular season game. The Mountaineers have easily locked up the top seed in the Big East Tournament, which will start next week.

No. 1 West Virginia (29-1, 18-0) finished off its conference season this afternoon with an 85-67 road victory over the Georgetown Hoyas (9-22, 4-14) to notch their first undefeated conference season in school history. The Mountaineers led from start to finish in this one as the Mountaineers coasted to their 26th consecutive victory since losing to Indiana in the Championship Game of the Great Alaska Shootout on November 20th.

WVU's Tre Welch was uncharacteristically ineffective today for the Mountaineers as he missed all six of his shot attempts and fouled out late in the second half, but others stepped up, including freshman Fred Joiner, who hit four three-pointers and scored 20 points. Olson Palmer also added 10 points and three boards from off the bench. Waitari Trammell added 17 points and six boards while Leandro Summers totaled 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Benny Washington tallied 16 points and four rebounds to lead the Hoyas in scoring. Brody Mullic added 15 points while freshman center Pearce Morrissette tallied 11 points, three rebounds, and three blocks, in addition to playing fantastic defense against Tre Welch.

West Virginia finishes the regular season at 29-1 and will be the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament, which starts next week. The Mountaineers have a first-round bye and will play the winner of Connecticut and Louisville.
