Marquette looming as the 2 seed. I do with the Seed logic was a little better in this game. But ive never advanced that far anyway on my 40 years.

I guess Hawaii wasn't for real, lol!

I know I'm looking forward, but I too am looking forward to the possible rematch with Marquette.

Got to love the CH2k8 Tournament seed logic with a possible Marquette-West Virginia Elite Eight match-up.

Yeah, it sucks that it doesn't try to keep teams from the same conference from playing one another. I think I've played a fellow conference member in the second round once. In this case, it looks like I will play Villanova in the Sweet Sixteen and maybe Marquette in the Regional Final.

Yeah, I guess not, LOL! We'll see about Marquette. Stanford and Duquesne are both pretty good (Stanford is one of those #7 seeds with high OVRs that you hate to play). I remember a few season ago, I was the #2 seed and got screwed by going up against some 90+ OVR #11 seed in the second round which had evidently underperformed during the season, but still had so much talent. That sucks!

            NCAA Tournament - Second Round
            March 19th, 2028

After losing in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals to Marquette, some wondered whether the Mountaineers had lost their extra step. A relatively lackluster, albeit substantial victory over 16th-seeded Gardner Webb in the opening round of this year's NCAA Tournament did little to change anyone's minds on the matter. However, the overall #1 seed of this year's tournament delivered a statement this afternoon as the Mountaineers of West Virginia absolutely walloped ninth-seeded Missouri (22-11) from start to finish as the Mountaineers (32-2) had crushed the outclassed, outcoached, and outplayed Tigers 111-73.

The Mountaineers shot 55% from the floor and made 15 three-pointers while outrebounding the Tigers 45-25 and out-assisted them 26-14.

"There's no two ways about it," commented Missouri head coach Bobby Braswell after the game. "They crushed us. We weren't prepared for that onslaught. Sure, we didn't play our greatest game out there, but I don't think it would have mattered. No one was beating that team today. Offensively, we played alright, but defensively we never had a chance. You can't beat a team when they shoot like that."

Fred Joiner came in off the bench midway through the first half and really put the game out of reach with five three-pointers in the first half alone. Joiner ended with 22 points, five boards, and five assists, having made six of his eight three-point attempts overall. Tre Welch also had a tremendous game as he made 10 of 14 from the floor and 10 of 12 from the charity stripe as he tallied 30 points and eight rebounds. Fellow big man Nile Stevenson added 10 points, three rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks while Deno Woodards ended with 11 points and five boards.

The game was so out of hand that Coach Frizzell was able to empty the bench late to give the starters some time to rest for the next round.

Othello Bazin led Missouri with a team-high 19 points and three rebounds. Mire Barron added 13 points, five assists, and three steals from off the bench while Sheray Okpwae paced the Tigers' offense with 12 points, three boards, and four assists.

#4-seeded Villanova defeated #5-seeded Baylor in their matchup in Birmingham, so the top-seeded Mountaineers will be taking on fellow Big East foe Villanova in the Sweet Sixteen round in Charlotte. #3-seeded Duquesne and #7-seeded Stanford also made it to Charlotte as the four teams will battle to see who will advance out of the East Regional and into the Final Four.

Wow, both West Virginia and Villanova dominated their opponents that round. Given the history between the two schools, I doubt either will top 100 when they square off. Good luck.

Unfortunately, as far as a competitive matchup goes, the Wildcats are very short. I think their frontline goes 6'6", 6'6", and 6'7" while mine goes 6'7", 6'11", and 7'0" with backups of 6'11" and 7'0". Needless to say, that is going to be a huge issue for them, and it was in the first matchup during the regular season, where I throttled them.

Yep. They're probably the only team that realistically has/had a shot to beat me in this bracket, IMHO (famous last words, LOL). They have the size to give me fits.

                        March 24th, 2028

Top-seeded West Virginia (33-2) delivered a beatdown of biblical proportions this evening as they throttled four-seeded Villanova (24-9) 118-66 in Charlotte, NC.

The Wildcats never had a chance as West Virginia was on fire from the start. The Mountaineers led 60-24 at the halftime break and extended their lead in the second half en route to their 52-point victory over their fellow Big East Conference mates.

When the two teams met early in conference play, the Mountaineers blasted the Wildcats 89-54 in Philadelphia, so perhaps it shouldn't have been a huge surprise as WVU is a horrible matchup for Villanova, but the sheer amount of points the Mountaineers put on the board was something to behold. The Wildcats' lack of size was readily apparent today and their zone defense was not able to put a dent in West Virginia's attack from beyond the arc, either.

In fact, the Mountaineers made 20 three-pointers out of 43 attempts overall in this one, both of which are season-highs. The Mountaineers also outrebounded Villanova 44-25 and forced the Wildcats into 19 turnovers.

Deno Woodards led the way for WVU with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. He was especially lethal from beyond the arc as he drilled six treys on the night. Fred Joiner came off the bench to hit four threes of his own as he ended with 22 points, three rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. R.J. Peterson added five threes, 15 points, and three rebounds while Bobby Dux ended with 13 points. Tre Welch also had a nice game down low as he tallied 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while Nile Stevenson ended with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. The Wildcats tried to lock down the paint and did a serviceable job of containing Welch and Stevenson, but by doing so they left the perimeter wide open.

Senior guard Gilbert Scheer led Villanova with 21 points and three assists. Glen Camper added 13 points and three assists.

West Virginia will advance to the East Regional Final the day after tomorrow, where they will take on #3-seeded Duquesne, who defeated Stanford 69-62 earlier this evening.

And therein lies the issue when the CPU has a very small team, plays a ton of awful zone defense, and goes up against a team like I've built that can shoot the basketball lights-out. That was ugly...

I think I'm going to bump the difficulty up to MOP next season while keeping the same slider set (rspencer's 20-minute All-Conference set). I'm not sure how much effect the difficulty level really has, though. I thought this slider set was doing a reasonable job all season (I've got the top OVR team in the country, so this is a legitimately great team), then all of a sudden something clicked and it's been blowout city.

                              March 26th, 2028

The Mountaineers are headed back to the Final Four for the third straight year! They left no doubt tonight. For the third consecutive game, the Mountaineers scored in triple digits as they slayed third-seeded Duquesne 102-67 in yet another epic blowout this evening to win the East Regional.

Top-seeded West Virginia (34-2) has now won their four NCAA Tournament games by an average of nearly 37 points per game, with the closest margin of victory coming against #16-seeded Gardner-Webb in the first round.

The past two years the Mountaineers' Final Four experience has been one to forget as they were bounced in the semifinals both times, but with the way they have been playing over the last three games, they seem nearly unbeatable.

The Mountaineers actually fell behind early tonight against Duquesne (30-6). The Dukes took an early 16-4 lead as the Mountaineers looked asleep at the wheel for the first five or so minutes of the game. Then Nile Stevenson came alive and the Mountaineers erupted on a 15-0 run to take the lead and shoot ahead for the easy victory.

Stevenson led WVU in scoring with a career-high 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. 19 of his 25 points came in the first half alone. Tre Welch notched a double-double with 17 points, 12 boards, three assists, and four steals while Fred Joiner came off the bench to add 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists.

Senior point guard Jibran Pope led Duquesne with 22 points and five assists. Jermaine Wysocki was the only other double-digit scorer as he tallied 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

WVU's Coach Frizzell was elated by his team's performance as of late. We're playing well and we're clicking on all cylinders," he explained. We don't all play well on any given night, but someone is always stepping up. We're shooting the ball better than ever and our defense isn't lacking, either. We need to stay humble and realize that we can be beaten on any given night, but I think Marquette drilled that into our head in the conference tournament a couple weeks ago."

Frizzell is likely happy the Mountaineers avoided a rematch against Marquette in today's regional final. Fortunately for him and the Mountaineers, the Gold Eagles were upset by Stanford in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

With WVU's East Regional victory, they will advance to the Final Four next week, where they will take on #5-seeded Texas Tech, who emerged as the champions of the West Regional after defeated La Salle 76-72. Texas Tech ended WVU's run last year in this same position before going on to win the National Title, so the Mountaineers will look to avoid the same fate again next week.
