13 game winning streak, back in the top 10, bonafide inside presence, clutch off-the-bench performer....

all is well in Mountaineer country.

Your season reminds me of Baylor this year. They were unranked until they went on a tear and became No. 1 in the country at one point. Hopefully the tourney goes better for you though!

Yeah, the only issue is that this rate we're almost sure to lose Willie Gomes, who is a redshirt sophomore, to the NBA this offseason. He's billed as a 'top pick' according to the Pro Buzz section on his player profile now.

Yeah, we finally found our stroke and reached an easier part of our schedule, which didn't hurt, either. Offensively, we've definitely been a lot better during conference play, and we haven't been losing the close games we were struggling with earlier in the season (I think we've only lost four games in regulation!).

Good luck in the Conference tournament. The way you have been playing lately I'm thinking Big East Championship is yours if everything falls right.

I would be very disappointed if the Big East championship doesn't include both Coach Frizzell's WVU and Marquette after their fantastic regular season.

We are definitely on a roll, though it's been awhile since we faced a team as good as UConn and/or Marquette, so we'll see!

Big East Tournament - Quarterfinal Round

No. 2-seeded West Virginia (24-7) outlasted Rutgers (19-14) this evening 68-57 to advance to the semifinal round of the Big East Tournament. The Mountaineers struggled offensively, especially in the first half, but managed to get some breathing room in the second half and were able to fend off Rutgers down the stretch.

Myron DeLeon was a big reason why as he scored a career-high 26 points and hit six three-pointers to lead the Mountaineers in both categories. DeLeon's performance was huge because Willie Gomes had a terrible shooting game tonight (4/16), but he still recorded a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

The Mountaineers led just 26-23 at halftime and really struggled to stroke the ball in the first half. They did considerably better in the second half, however, as they scored 42 points. The Mountaineers shot 38% (23/60) in total.

Anand Shropshire scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds for Rutgers. Zach Peterson also totaled 14 points and four rebounds and Theron Penigar added 11 points and four boards.

Rutgers ends their regular season 19-14 and will hope to get a at-large bid to play in the NIT with an RPI of 61.

The Mountaineers advance to play the No. 3-seeded Connecticut Huskies tomorrow evening. The Huskies defeated Notre Dame 77-50 earlier this evening.

Earlier today, top-seeded Marquette went down in a huge 91-53 upset to Georgetown in what was unquestionably the Golden Eagles' worst performance of the year. The Hoyas will face fourth-seeded Pittsburgh, who defeated Seton Hall 76-67 to advance to the semifinals.

If you beat Uconn you will pretty much be guaranteed a conference title at that point with Marquette out. They have always been a thorn in your side, but Now you have a much easier run to the Championship. Still though, never underestimate Georgetown. Possible conference championship?
