Damn, losing 4/5 starters in one offseason is tough. The young guys are going to have to step up for sure next season, I envision a lot of your offense flowing through Skip Bradford. Have you decided whether to start Weaver or Przybyszewski at point guard?

Pretty shocking for Dux to leave no?

Yeah, we lose 4/5 starters and five of our top eight contributors (the only ones who will be back will be DeLeon, Bradford, and Przybyszewski). Things will definitely be different next year and the scoring will have to come from other sources. Bradford and DeLeon will need to be efficient, and I expect that a lot of the offense will indeed run through Bradford.

Przybyszewski will definitely start at point guard, though Weaver has a good shot at being our starting shooting guard. The only non-freshman shooting guard who will be on our roster next season will be junior Dedrick Packevicius, and he has seen very little playing time here aside from garbage minutes, and Weaver has decent enough size to play the '2' and has the best three-point rating I've ever seen in this game (94). However, his shooting certainly hasn't lived up to the billing so far, but maybe that will change this season.

Yes and no. He was the highest overall rated player on the team, after all, and was a junior, but at the same time his stats certainly weren't worthy of declaring for the draft. However, I've had some high overall rating players who had even worse stats declare in the past (Happy Olson, for example), so I think once players get into the upper 80s and 90s, they are at risk to declare no matter what.

I was a bit surprised when I saw it, though. I figured Gomes would definitely declare, but wasn't sure about Dux.

                    2032 Recruiting Class

After a disappointing second round exit in the NCAA Tournament and a mass exodus which saw the Mountaineers lose five of their top eight contributors from this past season, West Virgnia head coach James Frizzell went out and brought in a solid class, ranked No. 17 in the country.

The class doesn't have any star-studded recruits, but Frizzell has brought in three recruits ranked four stars by 2kHoops.com, including two from the state of Texas.

Eliz Pocius comes in as the top overall recruit in West Virginia's 2032 recruiting class. The 6'0" high school senior who hails from Austin, TX is ranked as the 10th-best point guard in this year's class and is the 28th-ranked recruit overall. Pocius doesn't blow you away in any particular area, but he has a good all-around game and should be a dependable player given some time to develop. However, he likely won't see much playing time next year with Ije Przybyszewski and Monwell Weaver occupying the point guard position, and could be redhisrted.

Tommie Blackshear fills a huge need for the Mountaineers with Predrag Gabler's graduation as 13th-ranked shooting guard and No. 49 overall recruit in the 2032 class. The 6'4" high school senior joins the Mountaineers from Corpus Christi, TX. Like Pocius, it is not clear Blackshear excels in any particular area, but he is a good all-around player and should fit in nicely in Morgantown. Given the Mountainers' lack of depth at shooting guard, Blackshear could conceivably see some playing time this year, but his development over the summer and into preseason practice will have to be monitored.

Finally, Charles Rickert is a 6'5" small forward which joins the Mountaineers from Frizzell's hometown of Greensboro, NC. Rickert is the No. 74 overall recruit in the class and is ranked No. 18 among small forwards. Rickert stands at 6'5" with room to grow another inch or two. Rickert is very athletic for his position as he is very fast and has good ball-handling skills. Rickert joins Myron DeLeon as the only small forwards on the WVU roster, but it is unclear if he will see much playing time this coming season.

This year's classis ranked 17th in the country and third in the Big East. The class doesn't feature any Mr. Basketballs or High School All-Americans, but all three signees look like solid additions given time to develop and should have productive careers in Morgantown.

Duquesne hauled in the top class this season with two All-Americans and two Mr. Basketballs. The Dukes signed two five-star and two four-star recruits. Florida State, Boston College, Mississippi State, and Connecticut round out the top five nationally. Connecticut brought in the top recruiting class in the Big East.

                    Signed Recruits:
                    1. Eliz Pocius 6'0 168 (Austin, TX - #28 overall, #10 PG) 4*
                    2. Tommie Blackshear 6'4 198 (Corpus Christi, TX - #49 overall, #13 SG) 4*
                    3. Charles Rickert 6'5 211 (Greensboro, NC - #74 overalll, #18 SF) 4*

2032-2033 West Virginia Individual Player Preview

                          Starters:

PG #4 Ije Przybyszewski 5'11 181 (Jacksonville, FL) 86 overall SO

Ije Przybyszewski inherits the starting point guard spot this year after Theron Dux declared for the NBA draft as a junior after last season. Przbyszewski was one of the top-ranked recruits in the 2031 recruiting class and had a solid, if unspectacular, season last year backing up Dux. He shot well from beyond the arc (35%), especially from the corner, and was pretty good at distributing the basketball considering the playing time he received (2.0 assists in 11.4 minutes per game). It's unknown how he'll do in a bigger role this year, but all indications is that he should be solid this year. He doesn't have Dux's pure speed, but he bests Dux with his shooting ability.

SG #2 Monwell Weaver 6'3 180 (St. Louis, MO) 85 overall JR

Monwell Weaver is a natural point guard, but he'll slide over to shooting guard this season to start for West Virginia. Weaver had a good freshman season for the Mountaineers, but struggled last season and fell out of the rotation late in the season. Nevertheless, with Dux's and Gabler's departure, Weaver will find himself with a starting job to start the season. Weaver was one of the best shooters in the country coming out of high school, but his shooting hasn't lived up to the hype so far. We'll see if that can change this season. If he lives up to prior expectations, he could be a scoring machine this season. If not, he could fall out of the starting lineup in place of Dedrick Packevicius.

SF #31 Myron DeLeon 6'8 225 (Memphis, TN) 86 overall JR

Myron DeLeon returns after finishing last season on a roll after struggling in the first half of the season. This has been a theme for DeLeon as he also struggled in his freshman season before turning his play up a notch in the latter part of the season. DeLeon is a good shooter and displayed some flashes of driving ability last year that he will look to expand on coming into this season. DeLeon is West Virginia's leading returning scorer with 12.9 points per game, and was the second-leading scorer on last year's team behind Willie Gomes. He may need to step up his game and become a 15-20 points per game scorer if the Mountaineers are to have success this season.

PF #30 Skip Bradford 6'9 223 (Chicago, IL) 87 overall SO

Skip Bradford returns after a successful freshman season as the first man off the bench for the Mountaineers. Bradford is a good rebounder for his size and is very skilled at scoring the basketball. Bradford was inefficient last year at just 38% shooting overall, but he is a great playmaker and is also adept at driving and drawing fouls (113 free throw attempts). He also spaces the floor and shot 34% from beyond the arc as a freshman. If Bradford can refine his shot and shoot at a higher percentage this season, the No. 1 overall recruit from the 2031 class could really transform into a star.

                          C #52 Pearson Havens 6'8 240 (Brooklyn, NY) 82 overall SO

Pearson Havens will assume the starting job at center to begin this season. Havens was in the regular rotation early last season, but fell out late in favor of head coach James Frizzell going with just three big men. Havens has average, at best, height at 6'8", but he has good size (240 lbs.). Havens will get the nod to begin the season, but could feel some heat from Shannon Edwards, who played well in garbage time last season and will be the first big off the bench.

                          Bench:

PG #22 Eliz Pocius 6'1 176 (Austin, TX) 77 overall FR

Eliz Pocius comes in as West Virginia's top recruit from the 2032 recruiting class. The 6'1" freshman excels at defense and has a good all-around offensive game. He will likely get a chance to snag the backup point guard position, although it is possible Frizzell opts to slide Weaver over to point guard when Przybyszewski is off the floor. Pocius has decent size for point guard, but he likely isn't tall enough to see much action at shooting guard.

SG #34 Dedrick Packevicius 6'5 234 (Birmingham, AL) 85 overall JR

Derdrick Packevicius will look to finally have a breakout season after largely being pinned to the bench in his first two seasons in Morgantown. Packevicius will begin the season as the first guard off the bench and could work his way into the starting lineup if he plays well. Packevicius has not been a good three-point shooter during his time at West Virginia (25% career three-point shooter), but he has great size and can finish well inside the paint. He also has a good post game that hasn't really been utilized so far in his career. If Frizzell can adapt his offensive to utilize Packevicius' skills, he could have a nice season.

SG #21 Tommie Blackshear 6'5 198 (Corpus Christi, TX) 75 overall FR

Tommie Blackshear is a 6'5" freshman shooting guard from Austin, TX. Blackshear is a good finisher inside the paint and has good size, but otherwise doesn't seem to excel in any particular area, though he is generally solid. His three-point shooting could use some work, however, and will likely keep him from receiving too much playing time.

SG #24 Boakai Clement 6'3 209 (Nashau, NH) 71 overall FR

Boakai Clement is a redshirt freshman out of Nashau, NH. Clement excels at rebounding for his position and is a solid shooter. However, he is generally unspectacular in most areas and will likely struggle to see much playing time this season.

SF #20 Charles Rickert 6'6 211 (Greensboro, NC) 76 overall FR

Charles Rickert is a 6'6" small forward who joins the Mountaineers from head coach James Frizzell's hometown of Greensboro, NC. Rickert is an excellent ball-handler and is very athletic. He also has a solid shot and could be a really strong addition to Frizzell's squad in the coming years. He will have to compete for significant playing time this year as Packevicius could snag a lot of the minutes backing up Myron DeLeon, but time will tell on that front. If nothing else, Rickert offers good depth behind DeLeon and will be a capable replacement for him when DeLeon graduates in two years.

PF #54 Shannon Edwards 6'11 257 (St. Louis, MO) 78 overall SO

Shannon Edwards grew another inch this offseason to 6'11" and is slated to be the first big off the bench for the Mountaineers. Edwards could move into the starting lineup in place of Pearson Havens depending on how the two big men play to open the season. Edwards has a good post game and also showed an ability to hit shots from deep last season in limited action. With his size, he is also a good rebounder and has good ball-handling skills for a big man.

                          PF #12 George Neale 6'8 225 (Tulsa, OK) 68 overall FR (Walk-on)

George Neale joins the Mountaineers as a walk-on freshman. Neal is 6'8" and hails from Tulsa, OK. It is unlikely that he will see much playing time this season, barring injury to one of WVU's low post players, however. Neal's biggest strength is his vertical leaping ability, but he otherwise is pretty average and is definitely a downgrade compared to the Mountaineers' other available big men.

Going to be an interesting season, though honestly I can't see it going much better than last year. West Virginia is a lot smaller and with what looks like four freshman in rotation off the bench, the experience is lacking. If DeLeon doesn't leave for the draft this season, I could see West Virginia being a big threat in 2033. But for now, I'm going to predict 8-9 losses and a Sweet 16 finish.

Here's hoping you prove me wrong.

There's a lot of talent on this team, but a lot of it is unproven and the lack of height really concerns me. We could be in trouble rebounding the basketball.

Our freshmen look solid, but they're not going to be game-changers as Freshmen. Perhaps they'll be around for s full four years, though.

A Sweet Sixteen appearance is probably a realistic prediction. We shall see, though!
