      Morgantown, WV
      December 22nd, 2032

Myron DeLeon scored 21 points to lead No. 10 West Virginia (10-2) to their third consecutive victory to close out non-conference play this evening in Morgantown. The Mountaineers turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 92-59 blowout by the final buzzer as the Mountaineers ran away with it against West Virginia head coach James Frizzell's former team, the Princeton Tigers (4-9).

Ije Przybyszewski scored 13 points and dished out three assists for WVU while Skip Bradford added 12 points and seven rebounds. Dedrick Packevicius scored 12 points and Shannon Edwards tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers kept the game close until midway in the second half, when the Mountaineers finally started to pull away after the Tigers pulled to as few as eight points behind.

Derik Brand scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Princeton in both categories. Senior guard Wil Tobias also scored 14 points.

With tonight's win, the Mountaineers close out non-conference play 10-2, with losses against No. 16 UCLA and No. 3 Virginia Tech. West Virginia will host Georgetown next Wednesday to open up Big East Conference play.

Solid record coming out of non-conference play. Good win against your former team there too. They kept it respectable in the first half, but then the talent depth started to show and allowed you guys to pull away

Yes, now it's time for conference play. As you said, solid record in non-conference play, though that loss to Virginia Tech hurt a little.

No. 10 West Virginia (11-2, 1-0) opened up Big East Conference play this evening with an 80-66 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas (5-4, 0-1).

Sophomore center Nik Wong scored 20 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three blocks to lead the Hoyas in all three categories. It wasn't enough, however, as the Hoyas ultimately did not have enough offensive firepower to keep up with West Virginia. Elvin Lamptey was the only other double-digit scorer for Georgetown with 12 points and four assists.

The Mountaineers shot just 35% from the floor tonight, but they held a decisive advantage on the glass, where they outrebounded the Hoyas 43-31.

Myron DeLeon scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead West Virginia in scoring, but shot just 8/23 from the field and 5/13 from three-point range. Monwell Weaver hit four three-pointers and tallied 14 points and five rebounds while Ije Przybyszewski added 13 points and five assists. Shannon Edwards also totaled 10 points and eight rebounds from off the bench.

Next up for West Virginia is a game at Louisville on Saturday.

Alfonso Meyers scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Cecil Shumate added 22 points and five assists to lead the Seton Hall Pirates (10-4, 2-0) to an 83-73 upset victory over No. 9 West Virginia (12-3, 2-1) this evening in Morgantown.

The Pirates jumped out to an early advantage and led wire-to-wire. The Mountaineers cut the lead to as few as two points in the latter portion of the game, but the Pirates struck back in the closing minutes to get some breathing room, going on to win by 10 points.

L.L. Byfield also scored 10 points to go along with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals for the Pirates.

The Pirates turned the basketball over 18 times, but made up for it by shooting 53% (27/51) from the floor and 22/24 (92%) from the free throw line. West Virginia also turned the basketball over 16 times and shot just 38% (24/63) from the floor, though they did shoot 13/26 (50%) from beyond the arc.

Dedrick Packevicius provided a nice spark off the bench for West Virginia as he poured in a career-high 17 points and grabbed four boards. Myron DeLeon struggled with just 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists on 4/14 shooting and Skip Bradford also shot 4/14 to end with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Ije Przybyszewski also added 11 points and four assists.

Next, West Virginia will look to get back on track on Saturday at St. John's.

No. 9 West Virginia (13-3, 3-1) did just enough to outlast the St. John's Red Storm (7-9, 1-3) this afternoon as they pulled away in the second half to edge the Red Storm 84-74 to get back on track after losing their last conference game of the season to Seton Hall earlier this week.

The Mountaineers were led by Myron DeLeon, who put on one of his most impressive performances of the season with 28 points on 6/7 shooting from long distance. Monwell Weaver hit 5/10 from beyond the arc to score 15 points and Dedrick Packevicius scored 13 points from off the bench.

The Mountaineers led 40-36 at halftime, and though they gained a little more breathing room in the second half, they never led by more than 14 points as the Red Storm kept it surprisingly home at their home arena.

The Red Storm shot 48% (24/50) from the floor and an impressive 19/22 (86%) from the foul line, which allowed them to keep pace with the high-powered West Virginia offense. In comparison, the Mountaineers shot just 9/11 (82%) from the foul line and 44% (29/66) on field goals overall, but they shot an impressive 17/36 (44%) on three-pointers and outrebounded St. John's 35-27, allowing them to attempt 16 more field goals than their opponents (66 field goal attempts to 50).

Junior guard Lavelle Clark scored 20 points to lead St. John's in scoring. Darold Obrzut totaled 14 points and seven assists and senior point guard Theodore Jones paced the offense with 12 points, eight assists, and four steals.

Next up for West Virginia is a game at No. 19 Marquette in what should be the Mountaineers' toughest conference game yet on paper.

The 12th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (14-3, 4-1) put on one of the most impressive offensive performances of the season this evening as they pummeled No. 24 Marquette (9-6, 1-3) in their own building, 104-77.

The Mountaineers led wire-to-wire and led 51-35 at halftime. The Golden Eages cut the WVU lead to as few as 14 points midway through the second half before the Mountaineers put the game out of reach with a long run in the final 10 minutes. The Mountaineers led by as many as 37 points before West Virginia head coach James Frizzell emptied his bench in the waning moments of the game.

The Mountaineers were especially aggressive tonight as they attempted a season-high 38 free throw attempts, and converted them at an impressive 92% (35/38) clip. West Virginia also held a decisive advantage on the boards, where they outrebounded Marquette 42-19. The Golden Eagles were also held without a three-pointer made (0/7). The Mountaineers did turn the basketball over 18 times, but a lot of these turnovers came in the latter portion of the game once the game was out of reach.

Myron DeLeon scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Mountaineers in scoring. He went 14/15 from the free throw line. Monwell Weaver hit four threes and scored 17 points and Skip Bradford tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Shannon Edwards also had an impressive outing as he notched a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds on 6/9 shooting.

Senior 7'1", 303 lb. center Phillip Drake led Marquette in scoring and rebounding with 21 points and five boards. Florentino Kapono added 14 points and four rebounds and Neiman Archie scored 12 points.

Tonight's 104-point offensive explosion ties the Mountaineers' high-water mark for points this year, and is their third game scoring in triple-digits of the season. The Mountaineers previously put up at least 100 points against No. 20 Wake Forest (104) and UTEP (103). The Mountaineers are scoring 83.7 points per game this season, which is first in the Big East and fifth in the NCAA behind UMass (89.7 PPG), No. 1 Stanford (85.5 PPG), No. 19 Florida (85.1 PPG), and No. 6 Kansas State (83.7 PPG).

Next, West Virginia will head back home to Morgantown, where they will host Providence on Sunday.
