        vs.
        #16 West Virginia (18-5) vs. #23 Pittsburgh (15-7)
        Petersen Events Center
        Pittsburgh, PA
        February 5th, 2033

Ije Przybyszewski scored 17 points and dished out five assists to lead No. 16 West Virginia (18-5, 8-3) past No. 23 Pittsburgh (15-7, 6-5) this evening 73-66.

Shannon Edwards added a double-double from off the bench for the Mountaineers with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Monwell Weaver scored 10 points.

The Mountaineers led for the vast majority of the game, but scarcely held a double-digit lead as the Panthers kept the game close. Junior forward Gerald Dukes was a big reason why the Panthers kept it competitive as he scored 24 points and grabbed four rebounds for Pittsburgh. 7'2" junior Nathan Cesar totaled a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks and freshman point guard Neal Gomes added 10 points and four assists.

"This is a big win for us," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We've had some struggles recently, but we put together a nice performance this evening and were able to defeat our biggest rival at their arena. We had a nice balanced effort out there and I hope we can build on this going forward."

West Virginia faces Louisville next on Wednesday. The Cardinals are a disappointing 9-15 thus far this season.

Nice all around effort from you guys. Is Edwards going to take over the starting job from Havens or is he your scoring threat for your second unit?

He'll probably stay with the second unit. In reality, Edwards is the de facto starter as he closes games out as it is, but I still like bringing him off the bench to start the game, plus I don't want to damage Havens' confidence which is shaky as it is. With the stud seven-footer I'm bringing in next year, Havens may not even be in the rotation next year, though (pending whether Bradford goes pro after his true sophomore season, which I think he probably will).

                      Fifth Third Bank Arena
                      Cincinnati, OH
                      February 16th, 2033

Damarcus Niang scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and D'Jamal Terrell scored 15 from off the bench to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats to a huge upset victory this evening over No. 7 West Virginia, 81-77.

Brennan Stokes added 13 points and five rebounds for the Bearcats and junior point guard Gregory Carlson scored 10.

The Bearcats shot 53% (27/51) from the field and went 22/28 (79%) from the free throw line tonight as they had one of their best offensive outings of the season. They also outrebounded West Virginia 33-28.

"Defensively, we just weren't good enough," said a dejected West Virginia head coach James Frizzell in the postgame press conference. "This is one of those wake-up calls that let you know you can't afford to take a game off in this conference. This is a bad loss for us, no doubt, but I also have to give credit to Cincinnati. They were fantastic offensively and did just enough defensively to give us a little trouble. Fifth Third Bank Arena is a tough place to play."

The loss certainly can't be blamed on Myron DeLeon. The West Virginia junior small forward scored 25 points and hit seven three-point field goals on the night. Skip Bradford added 11 points, seven rebounds, and four steals and Shannon Edwards came off the bench to tally 11 points and five rebounds. Monwell Weaver also hit a pair of threes and ended with 12 points.

West Virginia has the rest of the week off and will look to get back on track next week at home against No. 17 Marquette on February 22nd. The Mountaineers scored an impressive 104-77 victory on the road earlier this season back on January 13th, and Marquette is currently one a two-game losing skid.

Myron DeLeon scored 19 points and Skip Bradford tallied a double-double as No. 10 West Virginia bounced back from last week's upset loss to Cincinnati with a decisive 81-67 victory at home against No. 17 Marquette this evening.

Skip Bradford totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds for West Virginia, and Ije Przybyszewski added 11 points. Shannon Edwards came off the bench to total 12 points and seven rebounds, and Dedrick Packevicius scored 10 points.

West Virginia (21-6, 11-4) scored the game's first eight points and led 46-31 at halftime. The Mountaineers led by double-digits for most of the second half, although the Golden Eagles did cut the lead to eight points at one point late in the game before the Mountaineers responded with a run of their own to stretch their lead back to 13 points.

The Mountaineers turned the basketball over 20 times tonight, but outrebounded Marquette 39-27 and made use of the charity stripe, where they made 21 of their 23 attempts.

Senior forward D'or Geason came off the bench to lead Marquette (17-10, 8-7) in scoring with 13 points and eight rebounds. 7'1" senior center Phillip Drake totaled 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists and fellow senior Allen Sockwell scored 11 points.

Tonight's win gives the Mountaineers the season sweep over Marquette. The Mountaineers defeated the Golden Eagles 104-77 back on January 13th in Milwaukee.

Next, West Virginia will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the Georgetown Hoyas, who are having one of their best seasons in recent memory with a 14-11 record thus far. Earlier this season, West Virginia defeated Georgetown 80-66 back in Morgantown in both teams' Big East Conference openers on December 29th.

Skip Bradford scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 10 West Virginia (22-6, 12-4) survived an overtime thriller against Georgetown this evening 69-67.

The Mountaineers were leading 58-55 in the waning seconds in regulation when Hollis Soson hit his first and only three-pointer of the game to tie the game. The Hoyas came up with another big shot with 25 seconds left in overtime as senior point guard Elvin Lamptey hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 67 apiece.

But Skip Bradford had the final say as hit hit a layup with five seconds left to give the Mountaineers a two-point lead. The Hoyas had a chance from three as time expired, but their shot missed the mark and the No. 10 team in the land won their 22nd game of the season and their second in a row.

West Virginia trailed by 10 points at halftime and by as many as 15 points late in the first half.

Hollis Soson led Georgetown (14-12, 8-9) in scoring with 17 points. Elvin Lamptey paced the offense with 16 points and seven assists. Nik Wong had a game game down low for the Hoyas, especially defensively, as he totaled 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.

Ije Przybyszewski scored 18 points for West Virginia. Dedrick Packevicius also added 13 points from off the bench.

Next, West Virginia will travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats next Wednesday before hosting No. 19 Connecticut next Saturday on Senior Night in both teams' regular season finales. With two games remaining, the Mountains trail No. 20 Syracuse by one game in the conference.

A little inconsistency for the Mountaineers toward the end of the season, no? Way to avoid another upset, hopefully the shooting woes will work themselves out come tournament time.
