    November 13th, 2032

Theo Bradley scored 29 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead No. 20 UCLA (3-1) to an impressive 88-65 home victory over No. 12 West Virginia (1-1) this Saturday afternoon.

UCLA found themselves down 16-6 right off the bat, but the Bruins stormed back to take the lead late in the first half and ran away with it in the second half.

UCLA freshman guard Jamel Owensworth, who was the third-ranked player in this year's recruiting class, also scored a career-high 17 points from off the bench.

The Bruins were dominant on the glass, where they held a 38-23 rebounding advantage. The Mountaineers' lack of size this season was really on display as the Bruins had their way on the offensive boards.

UCLA shot 49% (33/67) from the floor. Both teams were sloppy with the basketball as both the Bruins and the Mountaineers turned the ball over 16 times.

Myron DeLeon scored 21 points to lead West Virginia in scoring. Skip Bradford added a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

"We showed a lot of heart out there by not giving up early," said UCLA head coach Homer Winans. "We showed what we're capable of with our performance in the final 30 minutes of the game, and I think we can really be an elite team this season."

West Virginia will face Alabama State in Anchorage, AK in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday.

Yeah, we started so well, then it was basically a blowout in the final 30-35 minutes. Very disappointing.

No. 19 West Virginia (2-1) defeated Alabama State 66-59 this evening to advance to the Great Alaska Shootout semifinals. The Mountaineers struggled throughout the game against an overmatched Alabama State squad. The Hornets (1-3) actually led 41-39 at halftime and did not allow the Mountaineers to get far ahead, even when WVU did take the lead for good early in the second half.

The Mountaineers locked down defensively in the second half, holding the Hornets to just 18 second half points after surrendering 41 in the first half. Unfortunately for them, they also went cold on offense as they scored just 27 second half points and only 66 for the game.

The Mountaineers shot just 39% (25/69) from the field overall while holding the Hornets to 34% (21/61).

Sophomore point guard Ije Przybyszewski scored 23 points and dished out five assists to lead the Mountaineers in both categories. 23 points is a new career-high for the sophomore first-year starter, whose previous career-high was just 13 points. Skip Bradford tallied a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, but shot just 4/12 from the field.

Senior guard Demon Bauer was Alabama State's leading scorer with 17 pints. Freshman center Lelano Montague had an impressive double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kelyn Larranaga also added 10 points.

Tonight's game was West Virginia Mountaineers head coach James Frizzell's 900th career game. He has a career record of 712-188.

West Virginia will face Louisiana-Monroe in the Great Alaska Shootout Semifinals on Thursday. The Warhawks are 3-0 and defeated Yale 69-65 in their quarterfinal game to advance to the semifinals.

damn tough to see your Mountaineers get bounced so early in the tournament. It will be interesting to see who steps up this year, it's basically an entirely new team so it must be fresh for you.

Yeah, we can't go through Gomes anymore in the post constantly, so we're definitely having to change things up. It keeps it fresh, at least, as you said, though I'd much rather have Gomes back this year, haha.

Myron DeLeon scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead No. 19 West Virginia (3-1) into the Great Alaska Shootout Championship Game tomorrow evening.

The Mountaineers led 38-26 at halftime, but the Warhawks (3-1) made a game of it in the second half and though they never led in the second half, they kept it close. West Virginia hit free throws in the final minute to seal the victory over Louisiana-Monroe, handing the Warhawks their first loss of the season.

Junior guard Rich Delgado scored 14 points to lead the Warhawks in scoring. Fellow junior guard Perry Diggs also played well, scoring 11 points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists.

Louisiana-Monroe was outrebounded 31-23, but went 18/24 from the free throw line, which was a big reason why they were able to keep it close in the second half. The Warhawks got into the bonus early and were able to convert their attempts from the free throw line into points.

No. 15 Wake Forest defeated Loyola (IL) 113-69 in the other semifinal game, and the Demon Deacons and the Mountaineers will face off against one another in the championship game tomorrow evening.

For those interested, I've started up a new coaching legacy using coach mode (as opposed to manually playing). This legacy will continue, as well. I've just started getting into coach mode now and wanted to branch out a little with my favorite game.

No. 19 West Virginia (4-1) came into tonight's game scoring just under 75 points per game on the season, but you wouldn't know it from their performance tonight. They had put 61 points on the board by halftime and scored an additional 43 points in the second half to put up triple digits as they handed No. 19 Wake Forest (3-1) their first loss of the season 104-88 in the Great Alaska Shootout Championship Game.

Myron DeLeon scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Mountaineers in scoring. DeLeon shot 11/13 from the field overall and shot an impeccable 8/8 from beyond the three-point arc. He scored 24 of his 35 points in the first half alone. Skip Bradford added 18 points and five rebounds and Pearson Havens shot an efficient 8/10 to end with a career-best 16 points and three blocks. Shannon Edwards totaled 12 points and four rebounds from off the bench, and freshman Charles Rickert scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds, setting career-highs in both categories.

The Mountaineers shot 63% (38/60) from the floor and 63% (12/19) from three-point range. Wake Forest wasn't far behind as they shot 62% (37/60) from the field and 53% (8/15) from downtown, but the main difference-maker in the game came at the free throw line. Wake Forest shot just 6/10 from the charity stripe in comparison to WVU's 16/20.

"We were in another world shooting the basketball tonight," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell, "but I am glad we didn't just settle for jump shots. With the way our shots were falling, it would have been easy for us to start chucking up ill-advised threes, but we kept the ball moving and were aggressive with our offense, which paid off with some attempts from the free throw line and some easy shots inside.

Defensively, we have some work to do and there's not a lot to like from what I saw tonight. Our performance against UCLA was poor and tonight's wasn't any better."

West Virginia has given up 88 points to both Power 5 conference teams they have faced this season (UCLA and Wake Forest).

Senior Pat Powers scored 19 points and dished out nine assists to lead the Demon Deacons in both categories. Smush Atangana scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds while Deilvez Jurczak added 10 points and four assists. Iman Carter and Mike Conley also scored 11 points apiece.

The Mountaineers conclude the Great Alaska Shootout as champions and will have a week off before their next game next Saturday at home against Central Florida, who is currently 0-3.
