I use a hybrid substitution system. The substitution pattern is set to "Auto", but I frequently manually make changes, as well.
For example, in Clemmons' case, most of the time the CPU would sub him in for a couple minutes, if at all. However, despite his slightly lower ratings than some of my other players, I enjoy his shot and can work with it well. As such, sometimes I will manually sub him in.
Also, if he is playing well (which, for him, basically means that he is shooting the three with consistency), I will leave him in longer, as you saw against Oregon, where I gave him 10 minutes since he hit three treys.
In addition, if a starter is struggling (like in Randall Norton's case for most of the year), I will try to keep him on the bench a little longer than the CPU probably would.
Our three-point percentage as a team isn't all that bad (32-33%), but we seem to be getting progressively worse, which is not a good sign. In addition, Randall Norton, who has generally shot 32-35% from downtown over his three previous years in Morgantown, is shooting under 20% from beyond the arc at the moment. This is really not good at all for me because, with the way I run the offense, my SG has to be able to shoot the three and shoot it consistently. Norton was never a spectacular three-point shooter, but he was usually a low to mid-30s shooter, which was good enough. Unfortunately, he is nowhere to be seen this year.
Leandro Summers, my backup SG and the presumable starter next year at SG, is shooting in the low-40s from beyond the arc right now. Despite him being a freshman, I am going to be very tempted to insert him into the starting lineup at some point of Norton doesn't improve.
We already have two freshmen starters (Montgomery and Welch); why not add another?
