    Villanova (14-13) vs. #15 West Virginia (19-7)
    WVU Coliseum
    Morgantown, WV
    February 16th, 2032

No. 15 West Virginia (19-7, 12-2) won their ninth game in a row as they edged the Villanova Wildcats 80-73 this evening at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

Myron DeLeon scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Mountaineers in scoring. Willie Gomes did not score as much as he has in recent games, but he shot an efficient 8/14 from the floor and ended with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks, which ties his career-best mark. Matt Blanchard and Ije Przybyszewski also came off the bench to add 13 points apiece. Junior point guard Theron Dux just missed out on recording a double-double as he scored nine points to go along with 10 assists.

Villanova (14-13, 6-8) stayed in the game because of their huge advantage at the foul line. The Wildcats shot 26/29 (90%) from the charity stripe while limiting the Mountaineers to just 10 free throw attempts. The Wildcats shot a respectable 42% (22/53) from the floor, but even when they did struggle offensively, they were bailed out with trips to the foul line for easy points. This allowed the Wildcats to stay in touch with the Mountaineers throughout and kept the game close until the final buzzer sounded.

Senior guard Maury Jennings led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points and four rebounds. Predrag Osborne added 14 points and freshman Isaiah Torress came off the bench to total 10 points and five boards. Leighton McNurlin closed out the double-figures scoring with 12 points and five rebounds.

West Virginia has four days off before taking on Louisville on the road this coming Saturday. The Mountaineers will then travel to Newark, NJ to take on the Seton Hall Pirates on February 29th and will close out the regular season by hosting Notre Dame and Pittsburgh on March 4th and March 6th, respectively.

        Thanks!

In between watching real basketball this weekend, I marathoned a lot of CH 2K8 and got to the end of the regular season today. I will try to catch up with my updates in the coming day or two.

No. 15 West Virginia (20-7, 13-2) completed their season-sweep of the Louisville Cardinals (12-14, 4-10) with an 88-67 victory on the road in Louisville this afternoon. Today's 21-point victory gives the Mountaineers 10 wins in a row since losing at Notre Dame on January 15th.

Louisville got off to a quick start and led by double-digits midway through the first half, but the Mountaineers finally found their stroke in the final 10 minutes of the half as they shot ahead and led 46-30 at the halftime break. The Mountaineers led by as many as 29 points in the second half before the Cardinals cut the lead to 21 points at the final buzzer.

The Mountaineers outrebounded Louisville 43-27 this afternoon and forced the Cardinals into 18 turnovers.

Willie Gomes tallied 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks to lead the Mountaineers in all three categories. Myron DeLeon also had a nice game as he hit a trio of threes and ended with 19 points and four rebounds.

Freshman point guard Jeromy Minnieweather scored a career-high 21 points and dished out six assists for Louisville. Senior shooting guard Kenneth Wells also scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.

West Virginia has the next seven days off and play their final true road game of the season as they will face the Seton Hall Pirates next Sunday.

Willie Gomes was limited to 26 minutes of action due to foul trouble, but he still totaled 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists as he led No. 11 West Virginia (21-7, 14-2) to their 11th consecutive win with a 66-57 victory over Seton Hall (13-15, 6-10) this Sunday afternoon in Newark, NJ.

Skip Bradford also notched a double-double for West Virginia as he recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds. Myron DeLeon struggled from the field, shooting just 5/16 overall and 2/9 from three-point range, but he still tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

The Mountaineers struggled offensively and could not pull away from Seton Hall throughout the game. They turned the basketball over 18 times and shot 40% (23/58) from the floor and just 21% (4/19) from beyond the arc. Seton Hall was even worse shooting the basketball, however, as they shot just 33% (20/61) from the field and only made 10% (2/20) of their attempts from three-point range.

Senior small forward Durant Jeffries was Seton Hall's only double-digit scorer as he recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and a career-high six steals.

West Virginia closes out the regular season next week against Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Both games will be played in Morgantown.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. No. 9 West Virginia (22-7, 15-2) avenged their 86-77 overtime loss at Notre Dame (19-12, 9-8) on January 15th with an 84-44 thrashing of Notre Dame this evening.

Willie Gomes scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead WVU in both categories. Ethan Augustin also recorded a rare double-double as he tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds while Myron DeLeon totaled 16 points and five rebounds and Predrag Gabler scored 12 points.

The Mountaineers shot 52% (35/67) from the floor and outrebounded the Fighting Irish 45-24. Notre Dame shot just 29% (16/56) from the floor.

Senior forward Altron Hollis was Notre Dame's leading scorer with eight points.

Notre Dame saw its already slim NCAA Tournament hopes dashed with tonight's humiliating 40-point loss.

West Virginia will close out the regular season on Saturday at home against rival No. 24 Pittsburgh in the annual Backyard Brawl. This will be West Virginia's first game against a ranked team since hosting Connecticut back on January 10th.

Yeah, it was one of those games where everything just went right for us. Kind of like the opposite of this nightmare game...

Myron DeLeon hit the shot of his life. The 6'8" sophomore forward put his head down and barreled towards the basket and forced up a layup which swished through the basket with just one second remaining to give his West Virginia Mountaineers an 88-87 lead over rival No. 24 Pittsburgh (20-10, 11-7).

The Panthers were out of timeouts and senior guard Jerald Hull's three-quarter court prayer wasn't answered as they fell 88-87 to No. 9 West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl, a series the Mountaineers have dominated since head coach James Frizzell was hired 13 years ago.

"Defensively, our performance was embarrassing," said Frizzell. "But we made a game out of it and Myron [DeLeon] hit a hell of a shot to give us the win. Any time we can beat Pittsburgh it's a good night. Now we're going to get ready to head to Madison Square Garden next week and try to win the conference tournament title."

Pittsburgh shot a blistering 59% (33/56) from the field and 60% (6/10) from three-point range. The Mountaineers simply could not contest enough shots and the Panthers were hitting nearly everything. However, the WVU defense did force Pittsburgh into 19 turnovers, which ultimately proved decisive.

The Mountaineers were no slouches offensively, either, as they shot nearly 50% (30/61) from the field and made half of their attempts from beyond the arc (6/12).

Willie Gomes scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead West Virginia in both categories. Freshman Skip Bradford made his presence known in this rivalry he will get intimately familiar with in the coming years as he totaled 17 points and five rebounds. Myron DeLeon also added 11 points and four rebounds and Theron Dux tallied 11 points and five assists.

Seniors Bud Hudson and Jerald Hull led Pittsburgh in scoring. Hudson scored 23 points and Hull totaled 19 points and four assists. Taj Bookout also had a nice game as he ended with 10 points and seven assists.

West Virginia hasn't lost to Pittsburgh since January 6, 2024, when the Mountaineers were defeated by the then-No. 1 ranked Panthers 80-70 in Morgantown.

West Virginia finishes off the regular season on a 13-game winning streak. Their last loss was at Notre Dame on January 15th.

No. 7 Marquette defeated Syracuse 78-66 to finish 16-2 in conference play, so West Virginia and Marquette both finish 16-2 in Big East Conference play. However, the Golden Eagles own the head-to-head tiebreaker and will be the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden next week. This is the first time the Mountaineers have failed to win the regular season conference title and receive the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament since the 2024-2025 season, when Connecticut won the regular season title. West Virginia had won it six years in a row prior to this season.
