Yeah, I think we are benefiting from being the preseason #2-ranked team. We have played a very tough schedule, though, and we are a top 30 in RPI. There's no way we'd be ranked if we started the season unranked, though.

Indeed, it is good to see San Francisco doing well. They've been decent off and on since I left them. I remember we played them in the NCAA Tournament a few seasons ago.

No. 24 West Virginia (11-7, 4-2) bounced back from a tough overtime loss against Marquette last week with a resounding 101-77 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats (4-11, 2-4) this evening in Morgantown.

Willie Gomes had another career performance as he tallied a career-high 34 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Theron Dux added 12 points and seven assists while Predrag Gabler and Myron DeLeon added 10 points apiece. Skip Bradford also added 10 points and five rebounds from off the bench.

Senior guard Terry Louhgton scored 18 points and sophomore forward Demarcus Niang scored 16 to lead the Bearcats. Babacar Platt also scored 10 points and four rebounds and Gregory Carlson added 13 points.

The Mountaineers' 101 points was the most they have scored this year. The Mountaineers shot 60% (36/60) from the field tonight and also made 18 of their 21 free throw attempts.

West Virginia will play Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

101 points that's what I'm talking about. Great win. Hopefully this is the start of getting back on track after this performance

Gomes is a monster. It looks like Dux is starting to feel more comfortable running the offense too, he had a good game if you ignore the 5 turnovers

Yeah, it was good to see for sure. Cincinnati is a bad team, but we haven't shot it that well all season, even against worse teams than Cincinnati.

Yeah, Gomes is a monster. His standing dunk rating is what really sets him apart. I forget his exact standing dunk rating, but it's enough for him to rate an 'A+' when compared against other centers. With his height and athleticism and his ability to snag rebounds, he is so dangerous on putback dunks. He can just rise up when close to the basket and slam it home against smaller players (and almost everyone else is smaller than him given his height). His hook hot has also been lethal this year, and I've really upped his usage lately given the rest of the team's offensive struggles. I've never had a player with a standing dunk rating like that.

Dux is a really good slasher and is literally the fastest player in the game (99 speed rating). He doesn't have the size to be as lethal as Fred Joiner was when finishing close to the basket, but he is good at drawing contact and his ability to penetrate opens things up for others.

He's turned it over more than I'd like, but that might be operator error.

              Thanks!

I've also started to trim the rotation down to 8 men, which seems to have helped. Matt Blanchard is finally having a breakout year, so I'm inserting him in the lineup and Weaver and Havens have largely been sidelined lately with Ije, Matt, and Skip taking the bench minutes.

Willie Gomes scored in excess of 30 points for the second consecutive game as the sophomore powered the Mountaineers to a dominating 90-63 victory at Syracuse this evening with a 32-points, 13-rebound performance.

After tonight's performance, Gomes is now averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on the season. Predrag Gabler also added 14 points and five rebounds.

West Virginia led 39-29 at halftime and opened the game up in the second half. The Mountaineers shot 54% (35/65) from the field and outrebounded the Orange 37-19.

"We've really stepped up our play these last couple games," beamed West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We are really starting to click on offense, and Willie [Gomes] is playing at another level right now. I've coached some great centers and power forwards during my time as head coach at the collegiate level and Gomes is as good as I've seen. He's got a great career ahead of him at the next level."

J.W. Kou scored 14 points to lead Syracuse in scoring. Andrius Emmett added 12 points and Ron Ike scored 10 points.

Next, West Virginia will face DePaul on the road on Thursday.

Oops, I was wrong. The Golden Eagles are starting four juniors and one senior! I guess they'll be dangerous next year, too, and likely even better! Their starting point guard is a senior, and the rest of their starting lineup are juniors.

Well, depending on how good their backup PG is they may struggle a little bit. It's hard to score without a true floor general even if the rest of the team is really good

Very true! I'm not sure how good their backup point guard is off the top of my head.

EDIT: Their starting PG is an 84 OVR and their backup PG is an 82 OVR, but he is also a senior. The only other point guard on their roster is a 65 OVR sophomore Roland Desilos, and he isn't even on their active roster, so they could have some issues there.

Willie Gomes tallied 32 points, 14 rebounds, and a career-high six blocks as he powered the No. 19-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (13-7, 6-2) to their third-consecutive victory this evening with a 74-63 victory at DePaul (7-11, 1-6).

Theron Dux added 11 points for the Mountaineers. Senior guard Steven Grace was DePaul's leading scorer as he went 6/17 from the field to end with 17 points and five assists.

DePaul got off to a quick start and led West Virginia 36-29 at halftime. The Mountaineers stepped up their game on both ends of the floor in the second half, however, as they outscored the Blue Demons 45-27 in the second period to earn the victory.

The Mountaineers shot just 4/19 (21%) from three-point range, but outrebounded DePaul 39-28. The Mountaineers also turned the ball over just seven times, which is a far cry from their season average of nearly 14 giveaways per game. West Virginia also blocked nine of DePaul's 61 shot attempts, with Gomes leading the way with a career-best six individually.

The Mountaineers have tomorrow off and will host Louisville at the WVU Coliseum on Saturday.
