I agree that you guys have been really inconsistent basically all season. But hey, they don't call it March Madness for no reason. Anything can happen

Yeah, that's definitely true. This team is very talented, so you never know. I firmly believe we can beat anyone we face. We hung with Virginia Tech earlier this season, who is the consensus #1 team in the land.

        (2) West Virginia (26-7) vs. (8) Notre Dame (20-12)
        Madison Square Garden
        New York, NY
        March 12th, 2033

West Virginia pulled away in the second half to defeat Notre Dame 85-72 to win their fourth consecutive Big East Tournament Championship this evening in Manhattan.

Freshman small forward Charles Rickert had the game of his life for the Mountaineers (26-7) as he scored 20 points on 8/13 shooting in just 18 minutes of action to lead the Mountaineers. Rickert's previous career-high was just 10 points. Dedrick Packevicius also had a nice game off the bench with 13 points. Skip Bradford totaled 12 points and five rebounds for WVU and Myron DeLeon ended with 11 points and six rebounds.

Senior center Brett Goodwin led all scorers for Notre Dame with 16 points and eight rebounds. Korey Leslie tallied an impressive 12-point, 11-rebound double-double and Dreike Hickman just missed out on a double-double of his own with 12 points and nine assists. Dwayne Carbaugh also added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Mountaineers shot 49% (33/67) from the floor tonight, but struggled to get to the free throw line, where they attempted just 10 free throws (8/10).

West Virginia led 40-34 at halftime, and pulled away further in the second half as they led wire-to-wire the rest of the way.

Tonight's win gives West Virginia four consecutive wins since losing their penultimate regular season game at Villanova back on March 2nd.

"It feels great to capture another Big East crown," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We haven't been able to make it happen the last two years in the regular season, but we've done well in the tournament and we're really starting to feel like Madison Square Garden is our home away from home. What a great venue, what a great city!"

Next, West Virginia will advance to the NCAA Tournament, where they are currently projected as a No. 2 seed. Notre Dame will likely miss out on the NCAA Tournament altogether because of their weak strength of schedule.

Good luck against UTSA. Don't trash em too hard, I've got a soft spot for that school lol. Was there for 7-8 years in a dynasty I played on NCAA 14

So much to type, so little time:

                      - How did North Carolina not earn a 1 seed? I feel like they're either going to be fired up and crush the West Regional or they'll be deflated and won't make it to the Sweet 16 (a match-up against 10 seed Wisconsin could be fatal).

                      - Sucks that even with only four entrants from the Big East, the committee still managed to put two in the same region with a possible match-up before the Elite 8. I think Syracuse's loss in the Big East tournament is just a sign of things to come, so should they make it against you guys in the Sweet 16 I can't imagine they'd win.

                      - West Virginia's region is easy. Despite the struggles they've had being consistent this season you have an over-ranked 1 seed in Arizona State imo (unless they beat Oregon and Stanford to win the Pac-10, which would make me retract this statement lol), a team you're familiar with a 3 seed Syracuse and the best chance of a low seed making a run is 5 seed Illinois. I think West Virginia can learn to take it one game at a time and make the Final Four, but that's where they'll stop because I can't see them beating the other 1 seeds should they make it.

                      - My Final Four picks: Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida, West Virginia. I'd love to pick the Hokies to win it all but I'll go North Carolina over Florida.

Haha, I'll try. I have a bit of a soft spot for them, as well!

I am not sure, to be honest. They were the regular season conference champions out of the ACC, which is the #1-rated conference by RPI, as usual in this legacy. Their RPI is #1. They did lose the ACC Tournament Title Game to NC State, but it is still strange. Then again, while this game generally does a good job at seeding teams, there are sometimes some strange happenings. For example, 14-14 Virginia is a #10 seed this year. Their strength of schedule is great, for sure, but a .500 team making it over 20-win teams like Seton Hall?

Yeah, this game does a bad job at keeping teams from the same conference from playing each other. I guess that would be tough to program, though.

We do have a lot more talent than Syracuse, but we did lose to them in our regular season matchup. We would likely be favored in a rematch, in any case.

I do not disagree. I think we got a great draw. Like you said, Arizona State is the weakest #1 seed and is only rated 89 OVR. #4-seeded Texas A&M actually has the best OVR rating of any team in the region aside from my own, as they are a 93 OVR. WVU is 95 OVR. Syracuse is a much weaker 86 OVR (they overachieved this season) and the rest of the teams on down aren't particularly scary (though #5 seed Illinois did win the Big Ten).

Virginia Tech is really good, as is North Carolina (highest-rated team in their region along with UCLA). I would go with NC State out of the South Region as they are tied with my WVU team with the highest OVR rating in the nation (95 OVR) and are coming off winning the ACC Tournament over UNC. And, yes, I would pick WVU to make it out of the Midwest Region, but how could I pick otherwise?

Thanks for the comments! Now, time to let the madness begin!

                          NCAA Tournament - First Round

West Virginia (27-7) cruised past Texas-San Antonio (17-12) 96-58 this afternoon to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Shannon Edwards had the game of his life for West Virginia as he totaled career-highs in points and rebounds with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Charles Rickert also had a great game, following up his career outing in the Big East Tournament Championship Game, as he scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds on 6/10 shooting. Skip Bradford also tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mountaineers got off to a hot start and led wire-to-wire as the outmatched Roadrunners never really threatened.

Senior center Joe Kruger scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead UTSA in scoring. Dewitt Greenleaf added 11 points and four rebounds and Brody Akpan scored 10 points.

The Roadrunners were automatic qualifiers out of the Southland Conference, having won the conference's regular season and tournament championships.

Next, West Virginia will take on the winner of the St. Joseph's/Temple No. 7/10 matchup later this evening.

Nice Round of 64 win, ho-hum performance with West Virginia winning every stat battle except blocks.

Had to laugh at Virginia winning since you called them out for being in the tournament to begin with.

Gonna try to be more vocal in here if that's cool with you, a lot of respect for you being able to have such a long running dynasty that I and I'm sure others try to emulate.

Yeah, the UTSA game went about as well as I might have hoped. UVA has a good team so them winning isn't a shock, but they didnt play up to the level they should have in the regular season. I still maintain they have no business being in the NCAA Tournament, though!

And, yeah, I am definitely cool with any and all comments. They are always welcome!
