vs.
#15 West Virginia (22-10) vs. Georgetown (16-13)
Verizon Center
Washington, D.C.
March 1st, 2025
The Mountaineers are reeling. Just days after being beaten by a nine-win Rutgers team, West Virginia (22-10, 8-8) was destroyed and dominated by a hot Georgetown (16-13, 9-7) squad, which is looking to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
The Mountaineers, ranked 15th in the country, have now dropped two straight and the road will get no easier with #1 Connecticut and #16 Louisville on tap to end the season. On the bright side, both games will be played in Morgantown.
Georgetown dominated right from the get-go, seizing an early 8-0 advantage. The Hoyas led 51-29 at halftime and were able to empty their bench immediately after halftime as the Hoyas would go on to win 91-67.
The Hoyas dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mountaineers 33-13. The Hoyas shot 63% from the floor as they managed to get high-percentage shots all game long. The Hoyas only attempted five shots from three-point land, but feasted around the basket all game long as the WVU defense seemed to be dazed and confused.
Delbert Clemmons led the Hoyas from off the bench with a career-high 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Darrian Harrison added 15 points and four assists while Nelson Straight ended with 11 points and three boards.
Barry George and D.C. Montgomery were the lone bright spots on the Mountaineers. George led the Mountaineers with a game-high 21 points, but did not record a single assist in 27 minutes of action, which is rather startling for a point guard that averages 5.7 assists per game. D.C. Montgomery was the only other double-figure scorer as he tallied 17 points and four assists.
West Virginia will host the #1 team in the country, the Connecticut Huskies, on Wednesday.

I know you mentioned that you are well ahead of where this season is right now, but this is so suspenseful for us. Your top 25 ranking will certainly take a hit after this stretch. The Big East seems a ton of fun to play in with every game being unpredictable.
Best of luck against UConn!Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Apparently, UConn managed to lose this week, though, so I doubt they will be #1 when I play them. Oh well. They'll still probably be in the top three, though.

It would be nice to win one of my final two against UConn and Louisville so I could finish 9-9 in conference play, at least. 8-10 just looks ugly and I don't want to go sub-.500 in conference play.Comment

#3 Connecticut (26-4) vs. #21 West Virginia (22-11)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
March 5th, 2025
Chauncey Gogerty had the game of his life as No. 3 Connecticut (26-4, 14-3) used his 33 points and six rebounds to power past No. 21 West Virginia (22-11, 8-9) this evening in Morgantown by a final score of 89-77. Gogerty absolutely lit the WVU defense up as he hit 12 of his 15 shots, three of five from downtown, and six of six from the charity stripe. Gogerty also had a couple highlight reel plays on the receiving end of a couple alley oops that brought down the house in the second half.
WVU just could not ever get in the game. UConn led 44-33 at the half. WVU made a run early in the second half to cut the lead to 54-50, but Gogerty and the Huskies quickly responded to put the game out of reach once again as the Huskies won by 12 points.
Len Shields led the Mountaineers with 15 points, three rebounds, and four steals. Barry George added 15 points and five assists while D.C. Montgomery also scored 15. Randall Norton also added 12 points and four boards.
West Virginia will close out the regular season against No. 20 Louisville on Sunday afternoon in Morgantown. It will be Senior Day as Barry George, Randall Norton, and Kelyn Clemmons will be playing their final games in WVU uniforms.

At least you didn't have 13 rebounds like the Georgetown game....
Tough couple of losses, would hate to limp into the Big East Tournament on a three game slide I'm sure.My Dynasties

Yeah, that Georgetown game was ugly, to say the least. We actually played pretty well against UConn, IMO, but they are really good.Comment

vs.
#20 Louisville (22-8) vs. #21 West Virginia (23-11)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
March 9th, 2025
West Virginia (23-11, 9-9) recovered from a three-game losing streak as the Mountaineers put on one of the finest shows of this decade as they completely and utterly humiliated the visiting Louisville Cardinals (22-8, 13-5) on Senior Day in Morgantown.
Louisville never had a chance. WVU scored the first 14 points of the game and led 24-4 later on. The Mountaineers held a commanding 48-17 lead at halftime and continued to extend the lead in the second half, even with the benches largely cleared. In the end, WVU would eclipse 100 points for the first time this season while holding the Cardinals under 50 as the Mountaineers would crush Louisville 102-49.
West Virginia had previously defeated Louisville earlier this season at the Yum! Center where the Mountaineers won 75-64 on January 29th.
Louisville head coach Mark Painter could only mutter up three words to describe the game from the Cardinals' perspective. "Flat out embarrassing."
Each of WVU's seniors got ample playing time and performed. Senior Randall Norton led the way with 15 points and four steals. He hit all three of his attempts from three-point range. Fellow senior Barry George also put on a show in his final home game as he tallied 14 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Senior guard Kelyn Clemmons came off the bench to hit six of his eight shot attempts en route to 15 points in just 15 minutes of action.
Though not a senior, Len Shields put on the most impressive individual performance of the afternoon as he totaled 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in 23 minutes of playing time.
Mychal Silva led Louisville with a paltry nine points before fouling out in the second half.
With the blowout victory, WVU gets back on the right track and avoids a losing record in conference play. WVU finishes the regular season 23-11 and 9-9 in Big East Conference action. The Mountaineers will be the ninth-seeded team in the 2025 Big East Tournament later this week.
