    Cincinnati (20-13) vs. #21 West Virginia (26-11)
    Madison Square Garden
    New York, NY
    March 14th, 2025

No. 21 West Virginia (26-11) recovered from a 32-25 halftime deficit this evening to defeat the Cincinnati Bearcats (20-13) 85-79 in overtime.

Despite the comeback victory, the Mountaineers suffered a huge loss, however, as starting shooting guard Randall Norton, already suffering from a slight ankle sprain, sustained a high ankle sprain. With the high ankle sprain, Norton will be sidelined for close to a month, which, at this point in the season, means the senior will likely not play another game for the Mountaineers.

In eight minutes of action, tonight, Norton shot one-for-two from the field for two points, and assist, and a steal. It will likely be the last time he steps out onto the court in a Mountaineers uniform.

Nevertheless, the Mountaineers pressed on with Leandro Summers and Kelyn Clemmons doing their best to fill in for Norton at shooting guard.

Barry George was superb this afternoon as he scored a career-high 30 points and also grabbed three rebounds and tallied four assists. Len Shields was masterful on the glass as he totaled 16 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and three steals while D.C. Montgomery overcame a poor shooting outing to still end with 10 points.

Jerimie Anderer did all he could for the Bearcats as he scored a team-high 26 points, four rebounds, and three steals, but it was not enough. Clifford Sato was the only other double-figure scorer as he added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Louisville defeated Marquette in tonight's other semifinal 66-65. The Mountaineers will thus play Louisville tomorrow evening. West Virginia has played the Cardinals twice this season. The first meeting was in Louisville where the Mountaineers won 75-64. The most recent meeting was Senior Day in Morgantown last week when the Mountaineers absolutely crushed the Cardinals 102-49.

Losing Norton is a shame considering he's a senior and trying t close out his WVU career with the Big East Tournament Title, hopefully the team will rally around his absence and dominate Louisville for the third time.

Yeah, it sucks, especially because he's a senior. He wasn't exactly a star and, frankly, Summers can probably pick up most of the slack, but it really sucks to see a senior see his career go down like that (even if said player merely exists in the confines of my Xbox's hard drive!).

Norton's season this year was a bit of a disappointment. I think he is going to end this year shooting just over 30% from three-point range, which is his "specialty." He shot in the mid to upper 30s in his previous years, if I recall right. He was down in the lower 20s midway through the season (when I nearly benched him in favor of the aforementioned Leandro Summers), but he has really picked it up in conference play, at least.

Indeed. It was nearly an even costlier loss, though, so I guess I'll take it.

                March 15th, 2025

In a rematch of the 2022 Big East Tournament Championship Game, No. 23 Louisville (25-8) got their long-awaited revenge. In that matchup in March 2022, the Mountaineers (26-12) came out and top and earned a #2 seed in the tournament before flaming out in a second round loss to Oregon State in the NCAA Tournament. Tonight, No. 21 West Virginia was on the losing end as the Cardinals topped the Mountaineers 74-67.

In essence, this game was an absolutely amazing turn of events. Not only had West Virginia swept Louisville this year in their two games, but in their last match the Mountaineers absolutely destroyed the Cardinals. West Virginia's phenomenal 102-49 victory over the Cardinals came just six days ago, after all.

Louisville got off to a hot start tonight, though. The Cardinals led 31-20 early on, though WVU would cut Louisville's lead at halftime to 39-38. Louisville would open up the lead again in the second half. The Cardinals never turned this one into a blowout and WVU was always within striking distance, but the Mountaineers just could not get over the hump and take the lead.

Mychal Silva scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven boards to lead the Cardinals. Abe Leonard added 19 points and three rebounds.

D.C. Montgomery led the Mountaineers with 17 points and four rebounds. Unfortunately, 15 of his 17 points came in the first half as he flamed out in the second period of play. Barry George added 12 points and seven assists while Len Shields tallied a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, four steals, and three blocks. Leandro Summers did a fine job filling in for the injured Randall Norton as he nailed three shots from downtown en route to 12 points.

With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 26-12 and will await their selection into the NCAA Tournament tomorrow evening.

Break through to the Big East Final, lose two spots in the Top 25. Sounds about right

Tough loss to swallow, but sometimes it's hard to come all the way back. Hopefully fortune smiles upon you better in the Big Dance.

Welcome to the mad, mad, mad world of CH 2K8 polling!

To be honest, CH 2K8 isn't that bad, though. EA's NCAA Football tends to be even worse and polls actually matter there.

Tough loss in the Big East Championship game, tough conference slate overall this season. Excited to see what the tournament brackets will turn out like.

Oh yes, I've been down that road before multiple times. One of the many reasons I sat out this year's edition. Not really one of the contributing factors to why I canned my WFU Dynasty though. That was just straight up game breaking bugs.

At least in CH2k8, teams from the Atlantic 10 who rise up in the polls are actually dangerous and can beat people. Then again, maybe NCAA Football is just trying to meet reality (what am I saying GO HUSKIES F THE SYSTEM).

Back to the game: solid resume. Probably not enough to sneak into a 3 seed, but hopefully you can get a 4 instead of a 5.
