#12 West Virginia (3-0) vs. Arkansas-Little Rock (3-1)
Sullivan Arena
Anchorage, AK
November 21st, 2025
No. 12 West Virginia (3-0) handed Arkansas-Little Rock (3-1) its first loss of the year this evening as the Mountaineers defeated the Trojans 89-62 in the semifinals of the 2025 Great Alaska Shootout.
West Virginia led 42-30 at halftime, but UALR cut the lead to as few as five points early in the second half before the Mountaineers started to pull away as the minutes wound down to all zeros.
"I think this game was a example of where our depth really pays off," beamed Coach Frizzell. "As the game went on, we just started to wear them down."
One of the key catalysts of the run towards the end of the game was a surprising performance by freshman backup point guard Waitari Trammell. Trammell, whose previous career-high was two points in the quarterfinals, nailed four of five shots for 12 points and three assists tonight.
However, the star of the show tonight was WVU's D.C. Jefferson. The sophomore small forward lit up the scoreboard for a career-high 32 points and four rebounds. The 6'6" forward drilled 10 of his 19 shots from the field and hit four of seven from long distance. He also made eight of his nine attempts from the charity stripe. 20 of Jefferson's points came in the first half.
Len Shields also added 15 points, three rebounds, four steals, and two blocks while Leandro Summers hit four three-pointers en route to 14 points and three blocks (career-high).
Nik Carroto led UALR with 16 points while Darcel Perry and Alton Turner added 10 points apiece.
North Carolina defeated Illinois-Chicago in the other semifinal matchup of the Great Alaska Shootout, so the Mountaineers will face off against the Tar Heels tomorrow evening.

Been pretty much a cakewalk so far, but finally a primetime opponent comes to challenge West Virginia in UNC. Montgomery seems to be peaking at the right time, this should be a good one.My Dynasties

#12 West Virginia (4-0) vs. North Carolina (3-1)
Sullivan Arena
Anchorage, AK
November 22nd, 2025
No. 12 West Virginia (4-0) won the Great Alaska Shootout tonight as the Mountaineers defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels (3-1) 63-60. The Tar Heels came in on a hot streak after blowing out Illinois-Chicago in their semifinal matchup, but they ran into a buzz saw tonight.
This game was a defensive slugfest and an ugly game offensively. Both teams tallied 16 turnovers and neither team shot over 40%. West Virginia held the deciding advantage at the foul line, where they went 21-for-25, though quite a few of those foul shots came in the final minute once UNC started fouling to extend the game.
The Tar Heels would hit some clutch shots in the final minute to cut the lead to as few as one point and would have a chance to tie the game with time expiring, but senior forward Lubos Hall's corner three clanked off the front iron and the Mountaineers won the game.
Hall would lead UNC with 12 points and three steals along with Cale Thibodeaux, who tallied 12 points and three rebounds.
D.C. Montgomery was the only efficient offensive player for the Mountaineers as he scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed four rebounds. He hit several key free throws in the closing minutes of the game, as well.
With the victory, the Mountaineers extend their unblemished record to 4-0 and will host the North Carolina A&T Aggies out of the MEAC at the WVU Coliseum. Interestingly, the Aggies hail from Greensboro, NC which just so happens to be the hometown of Coach Frizzell.

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
One thing I've always found weird, actually almost fascinating, in this legacy was the rankings. For example, my Michigan State Spartans were ranked #4 to start out this thing in the very first rankings (or somewhere around there), and then they fell off and I haven't seen them since, as far as I can remember. Very interesting.Comment

For example, my Michigan State Spartans were ranked #4 to start out this thing in the very first rankings (or somewhere around there), and then they fell off and I haven't seen them since, as far as I can remember. Very interesting.
The whole Big Ten, in general, has completely fell from grace in my legacy, though. It seems that the conference only gets 1-3 teams into the Big Dance anymore.
The good news is that the Spartans are off to a 9-3 start and are rated 88 OVR (best in the Big Ten along with Wisconsin). Iowa is also pretty good at 86 OVR and is the only ranked Big Ten team at #15. They also handed Tennessee their first loss a couple weeks ago.
The Atlantic 10 has emerged as a power conference in this legacy, as well.
It is also interesting to note that UNC, for example, has fallen from grace to some degree. To be sure, they still have a good team, and made the NCAA Tournament last year, but it seems like it's been awhile since they really had a classic UNC dominant team. This year they are only rated at 85 OVR and are the worst team in the ACC in that regard with the exception of Miami (81). Wake Forest (88) is the next closest.
EDIT: Oh, yes, I am a bit further ahead than I have posted, which is why Michigan State is 9-3 and Tennessee has a loss.Last edited by superjames1992; 12-30-2012, 12:48 AM.Comment

North Carolina A&T (1-7) vs. #7 West Virginia (5-0)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
November 25th, 2025
No. 7 West Virginia (5-0) blew out a one-win North Carolina A&T (1-7) squad this evening 80-56 in Morgantown. On paper, this one appeared to be a blowout and in this case the paper did not lie. The Mountaineers absolutely curbstomped the Aggies.
D.C. Montgomery led all players in scoring with 20 points. Len Shields tallied a double-double with 12 points, 10 boards, and a pair of blocks while Tre Welch ended with 12 points and six rebounds. Anderson Black tallied his first career double-double as he ended with 11 points, 11 assists (career-high), and three steals.
Brooks Reyes led the Aggies in scoring with 14 points and three assists on five-for-20 shooting.
The Mountaineers will host Charleston Southern on Saturday in what should figure to be another blowout victory for the home team.

*To be quite frank, I screwed up and forgot to save when I played this game (I won 81-61 in the game I played). Thus, though I generally despise simulating games, I do not wish to blow out Charleston Southern again as it would be rather boring, so I simulated and here is the result I got.*

Anyways, I am off for Chile until January 13th. Since I will be gone for awhile and no updates will obviously be posted, if you all want to ask questions, perhaps I can do a press conference sort of thing when I get back.Comment
