This is by far the best CH2K8 stories on this site. You have done an excellent job and to go for as long as you have is a great achievement in itself. Keep up the good work.

The Mountaineers uncharacteristically sloppy this afternoon as they hosted the Binghamton Bearcats (5-6) and trailed for the majority of the first half, but in the end No. 5 West Virginia (9-0) notched an 81-63 victory.

It is possible that the Mountaineers could have been caught looked ahead to the game against No. 1 Tennessee only three days away. In any case, despite 15 turnovers and some poor shooting at times, the Mountaineers still won by 18. West Virginia held a huge advantage on the glass, especially on the offensive side, as they outrebounded the smaller Bearcats 42-24.

Idong Adler scored a game-high 20 points and tallied three assists to lead the Bearcats. Benny Mallory added 18 points and five rebounds.

With D.C. Montgomery struggling mightily, Len Shields picked up the slack. Shields was deadly on mid-range jump shots today and also hit a three-pointer as he tallied a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Leandro Summers hit five triples to total 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals while Anderson Black paced the offense with 13 points and four assists.

West Virginia will face No. 1 Tennessee in Knoxville on December 17th.

                  December 17th, 2025

There's a reason Tennessee (11-1) was ranked No. 1, despite their upset loss at No. 15 Iowa earlier in the season. They are really good.

The Volunteers came into this game averaging over 97 points per game and had exceeded 100 points in six of their 11 previous games. The Volunteers play a fast-paced offense that thrives on the fast-break and creating turnovers. It was no different tonight.

Tennessee forced No. 4 West Virginia (9-1) into 24 crippling turnovers as the Volunteers romped over the Mountaineers by a final score of 93-76. In actuality, the game was not as close as the score indicated.

The Volunteers seized a 26-point lead midway through the second half, at which Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl elected to call out the starters and bring in the bench for the majority of the remaining time left in the game. The Mountaineers made a bit of a run during the remaining minutes, but the game was never in doubt.

"We got whooped, destroyed," was all Coach Frizzell could muster regarding the game.

The only positive aspect of the game for the Mountaineers was their rebounding. The smaller squad the Volunteers trotted out onto the court could not quite keep pace with the Mountaineers' twin towers down low, but they still did a pretty good job. The Mountaineers ended up outrebounding Tennessee by a slim margin, 39-36, but it was hardly a game-changer.

Rashaun Sparks led Tennessee with 23 points and three assists in only 21 minutes of playing time. Blaise Halsell notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Theodore Crandle paced the offense with 10 points, six assists, and three steals. John McMillan also came off the bench to contribute 11 points and four steals.

Len Shields played well for the Mountaineers as he tallied 23 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. D.C. Montgomery added 17 points and four rebounds while Leandro Summers hit a pair of triples and totaled 13 points and three steals.

The Mountaineers will have two days to lick their wounds before facing off against their cross-state rivals, the Marshall Thundering Herd, on Saturday. At 8-3, the Thundering Herd are no pushover, either.

Indeed. UT is really, really good. The only thing I had over them was my size, but their talent level was insane and they were practically unstoppable offensively, despite a plethora of turnovers on their part (and mine, too, unfortunately).

                        Huntington, WV
                        December 20th, 2025

The annual Capital Classic between West Virginia (10-1) and Marshall (8-4) is almost always a good one, no matter than talent disparity between the two belligerents. Tonight was no different. The Thundering Herd came into the game with a sporty 8-3 record and playing phenomenally in the first half as they seized a 36-32 advantage over the visiting No. 4 Mountaineers at halftime. In the end, however, WVU's talent proved to be too much. The Mountaineers took a 64-62 lead in the final minute and Marshall could not covert on a buzzer-beater three-point attempt, allowing West Virginia to escape from Huntington with a slim two-point victory.

"It was closer than we'd like, but any win over a rival is a good win," commented WVU's Coach Frizzell after the game's conclusion. "After getting roughed up against Tennessee in Knoxville earlier this week, it was nice to bounce back and get a win."

Len Shields led the Mountaineers with 18 points, three rebounds, and three blocks. D.C. Montgomery added 12 points and six boards while fellow small forward Jud Helms hit three treys from off the bench as he tallied 11 points and three rebounds. Tre Welch also added 11 points and five rebounds in only 23 minutes of action, as he was sidelined with foul trouble in the first half.

Timmy Towe proved to be a menace for the WVU defense. The 5'9" senior point guard hit five three-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points off a stellar shooting night. Fellow guard Glen Woodards also had a nice effort as the sophomore scored a career-high 17 points tonight.

West Virginia will host a struggling Iowa State squad next Saturday.

Yeah, I saw you post about your UT game in another thread. That's rough. Sort of reminds me of situations where the CPU employs my strategy (fast break, work the turnover game, attack the paint) and I think to myself "hey! that's what I do" and then am completely powerless to stop it.

All I can say is I hope you get another crack at the Volunteers later this season.

And great job against Marshall. Good gut it out win -- especially when programs hate each other!

Thanks. Yeah, the Tennessee game was rough, but road games are always difficult in this game and there is little doubt that the Volunteers have more talent that I do. Perhaps on a neutral floor in the NCAA Tournament I could find a way to beat them. We'll see.
