    #2146
    vs.
    Cincinnati (11-14) vs. #2 West Virginia (21-2)
    WVU Coliseum
    Morgantown, WV
    February 12th, 2025

R.J. Peterson had the game of his life. West Virginia's 6'2 freshman shooting guard came into the game shooting over 45% from three-point range on the season, but he took it to a whole different level this evening. Peterson hit four three-pointers in the span of four minutes late in the first half to blow open the game and put his No. 2 Mountaineers (21-2, 10-1) in firm control of the game. In the end, the Mountaineers would cruise over the visiting Bearcats by a score of 100-67. Peterson would go on to hit eight of his 10 three-point attempts and would score 24 points, blasting his previous career-high of 12 points.

Cincinnati (11-14, 2-11) came into the game having lost eight of their last night games and not much changed tonight. The Bearcats were in it early, but Peterson's bevy of threes in the first half broke open a close game and transformed it into a 51-29 halftime lead for the Mountaineers. Cincinnati never was able to fight back and WVU had a chance to rest its starters for much of the second period.

Bobby Dux scored 12 points and hit three three-pointers for the Mountaineers. Leandro Summers also hit three treys en route to 13 points and D.C. Montgomery tallied 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Freshman point guard Waitari Trammell also had a career outing as he tallied seven points, three assists, and 12 assists. His 12 assists breaks his previous career-high of six.

Jose Whitney led the Bearcats with 17 points, five rebounds, and a pair of blocks. Everson Heard also scored 10 points and nabbed three steals.

This win marks Coach Frizzell's 499th in his career. Assuming DePaul doesn't pull off a monumental upset, Frizzell should tally his 500th career win against the Blue Demons in Morgantown this Sunday.

      vs.
      Depaul (9-16) vs. #2 West Virginia (22-2)
      WVU Coliseum
      Morgantown, WV
      February 15th, 2025

WVU head coach James Frizzell won his 500th career game this afternoon as his No. 2 Mountaineers (22-2, 11-1) defeated the visiting DePaul Blue Demons (9-16, 3-10) by a final score of 89-76. Frizzell's record now stands at 500-156.

"It's a nice accomplishment, obviously, and I'm glad to have it behind me," stated Frizzell. "There was a lot of talk about it in Morgantown over the last few days, but in the end it's just a number. I'll be much happier if we can hoist the trophy at the end of the season."

The Mountaineers struggled today against a horrible DePaul squad. The Mountaineers led big early on, but let the Blue Demons back into it. At one point during the early portion of the second half, DePaul cut the lead to a single point at 50-49. WVU would strike back, however, and would eventually pull away towards a 13-point victory.

Anderson Black led the Mountaineers with a double-double, as he tallied 16 points, 10 assists, and three steals. D.C. Montgomery added 16 points and three rebounds while Leandro Summers hit three three-pointers to score 11 points and nab three boards. Len Shields and Tre Welch had dominating performances down low as both garnered double-doubles. Shields tallied 15 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals while Tre Welch added 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.

Stevin Kanter led DePaul with 18 points. Jermaine Frederick paced the Blue Demon offense with 14 points and seven assists while Herold Walsh added 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

The Mountaineers will hit the road to take on the Seton Hall Pirates next Wednesday.

                    Thanks.

I think USF's coach is still Stan Heath, but I'm not positive. If I think about it, I'll have to check when I have the game fired up again.

Yeah, it's crazy to think of how many games of CH2K8 I've played over the years. It must be a great game for me to legitimately put in 700+ games in over the last five years. We're probably talking about close to 1,000 hours of playing time when I factor in games played and doing these writeups.

Maybe that just means I need a life, but whatever.

The top-ranked Mountaineers easily demolished the No. 12 team in the country this Saturday afternoon as West Virginia (24-2, 13-1) defeated Villanova (18-9, 8-7) by a final score of 81-55.

Despite a rough day turning over the basketball, the Mountaineers dominated most of the other statistical categories. They went 19-21 from the free throw line and outrebounded the smaller Wildcats 43-21.

D.C. Montgomery had another fantastic game for the Mountaineers as the sophomore small forward tallied 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Montgomery made a living from the foul line, where he made all 10 of his attempts. Leandro Summers nailed three treys en route to 14 points and four rebounds while the seven-footer Len Shields totaled a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Tre Welch also added 10 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks.

Darcel McGuire was the only double-digit scorer for the Wildcats, who had a forgetful shooting night, as he scored 18 points. However, the senior point guard still struggled overall, only recording one assists while committing four turnovers.

West Virginia will hit the road to take on a down Georgetown squad next Wednesday. The Mountaineers will then close out the regular season with a road games at Pittsburgh and Notre Dame and a home game (Senior Night) against Connecticut.
