Cincinnati (11-14) vs. #2 West Virginia (21-2)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
February 12th, 2025
R.J. Peterson had the game of his life. West Virginia's 6'2 freshman shooting guard came into the game shooting over 45% from three-point range on the season, but he took it to a whole different level this evening. Peterson hit four three-pointers in the span of four minutes late in the first half to blow open the game and put his No. 2 Mountaineers (21-2, 10-1) in firm control of the game. In the end, the Mountaineers would cruise over the visiting Bearcats by a score of 100-67. Peterson would go on to hit eight of his 10 three-point attempts and would score 24 points, blasting his previous career-high of 12 points.
Cincinnati (11-14, 2-11) came into the game having lost eight of their last night games and not much changed tonight. The Bearcats were in it early, but Peterson's bevy of threes in the first half broke open a close game and transformed it into a 51-29 halftime lead for the Mountaineers. Cincinnati never was able to fight back and WVU had a chance to rest its starters for much of the second period.
Bobby Dux scored 12 points and hit three three-pointers for the Mountaineers. Leandro Summers also hit three treys en route to 13 points and D.C. Montgomery tallied 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Freshman point guard Waitari Trammell also had a career outing as he tallied seven points, three assists, and 12 assists. His 12 assists breaks his previous career-high of six.
Jose Whitney led the Bearcats with 17 points, five rebounds, and a pair of blocks. Everson Heard also scored 10 points and nabbed three steals.
This win marks Coach Frizzell's 499th in his career. Assuming DePaul doesn't pull off a monumental upset, Frizzell should tally his 500th career win against the Blue Demons in Morgantown this Sunday.
